Description:
What would you do if your whole world came crashing down?

Broken promises of love. Deceits of life. Safiya is deep in despair and nearing self-destruction. But a chance opportunity to escape suicidal misery beckons her.

Millions said 'it is the land of wishes'. Mecca - Saudi Arabia. Millions said 'it is a life changing journey'. Hajj - the pilgrimage.

England to Arabia. Thrown into garments resembling a death shroud she embarks on the Hajj and enters the spellbinding world of ancient Islamic practices. To save herself. Alongside three million foreign and unpredictable pilgrims she makes her weeping wish in the celestial palace of Mecca. She camps with Ethiopian peasants and Arab Kings, faces the supernatural in the deserts and catches a spine-chilling glimpse of the end of the world. She uncovers love for a man she has never met and hatred for a hidden enemy. She risks her life for a fleeting obsession and steps into a perilous ritual where others had been killed.

But will her wish come true? Or will it end badly?

Three Thousand Miles for a Wish is a deeply moving, mystical and powerful story of a young woman's real-life quest for happiness. It captures the soul with remarkable potency as it takes the reader, in a way never done before, on 'the greatest trip on earth.'

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected May 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a well written book by an author who clearly felt her spiritual journey saved her life. The preview sucked me in. The story of a woman grieving her betrayal and lost love is a common one. Shortly after the free preview, the proselyting began. Her "memories" from discussions with other women in her group and her readings from the Qur'an to explain Islam seemed overdone. At times I felt like a missionary was visiting my door trying to sell a religion and at other times I was deeply moved by this woman's story. Her own writing flowed yet the "discussion and Qur'an" pieces were stilted and muddy. These sections almost seemed as if they were written by a different author trying to insert conversion material. As a very spiritual person, there were times I found the book distasteful. But, I did finish the entire book, so I felt I had to give it a minimum of three stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gives you a whole new meaning on life...! January 30, 2012
By Imz
Format:Paperback
This book takes you to a deeper understanding of love, betrayal and faith. The Author has a gift with words and the book takes you on a journey. You can actually feel like you are part of the story and it makes you laugh, cry and think at the same time. It is a powerful, mesmerising account of someone who has been through all the problems and difficult times in her life and managed to overcome them using the power of faith. Furthermore, this book has helped me gain a much better understanding of the Holy Pilgrimage - the Hajj - and what takes place during the course of this journey.

I highly recommend this book because many people will able to relate to this, people from all walks of life. It will leave you feeling emotional, breathless and at the same time it will help you think about your life and appreciate the things you have.
A fantastic book that is worth 10 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life and wishes January 7, 2012
Format:Paperback
I would like to say that one of the best books I have read, which is based on personal experiences. This book is not only about information about how to do Hajj but it contains also the reasons for why people go to Hajj in the first place. The author Safiya Hussain has packed her emotions alongside with experience in such way that she makes you cry, but since she has made one cry; she manages to make one smile too.

Interesting read. I have gained a lot of insight into Islamic practices & beliefs. Not quite finished reading yet but really enjoying it so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very well portrayed.
I appreciated her quest; it appears that she didn't truly get her wish fulfilled with her belief in Islam. Christianity is the only way to true happiness.

1.0 out of 5 stars Different religion
Did not care for the attitude of main character toward her parents. Also, did not care to read about a religion that was not Christian.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall A good read.
I GET EASILY DISTRACTED BY THE POOR GRAMMAR IN PLACES. IT IS INTERESTING TO READ ABOUT THE MUSLIM BELIEFS AND HOW DEDICATED MANY ARE TO THEIR BELIEFS AS ARE WE, CHRISTIANS
