5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
Very funny book, covers a wide range of topics and lets Carlin really shine. This is the only book I've ever read that actually makes me take a minute to laugh out loud before I can continue. Don't read it on a train or plane, because your neighbor may think you're nuts!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too over the top in foul language and high school humor...

Love George, but this book bordered on BORING because he was just to 'gratuitously foul-mouthed' even for George.

Too much of a good thing is just that TOO MUCH.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic "sympathetic contempt" from a legend, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Three Times Carlin: An Orgy of George (Paperback)
"I am a personal optimist but a skeptic about all else," Carlin writes. "What may sound like anger is really nothing more than sympathetic contempt. I view my species with a combination of wonder and pity, and I root for its destruction. And please don't confuse my point of view with cynicism; the real cynics are the ones who tell you everything's gonna be all right."

In my humble opinion, George Carlin was the greatest comedian of all time. He was smart, brave, truthful, and--most importantly--funny.

This is a fine compilation of his three outstanding books. Buy, think and laugh.

I would say, "rest in peace, George." But he would think that is so trite, meaningless and lame, so I won't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny book! A compilation of three., June 8, 2008
This review is from: Three Times Carlin: An Orgy of George (Paperback)
This book is a compilation of three of George Carlin's most recent books. While it is not bound that well and I suspect will come apart with a bit of use, it is a great deal if you like his sardonic humor. Great little excerpts - like to pick up and read during commercials while your favorte show is on. If you like him and his unique humor, you will love the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic George Carlin, November 10, 2007
This review is from: Three Times Carlin: An Orgy of George (Paperback)
As usual, Carlin covers politics, linguistics, religion, and the foibles of being human with total hilarious disrespect. I saw him live on tour in 1974. When his language got bad a few people walked out, but most enjoyed the show. Since then his style has not changed one iota.

I must admit, some of it is off the mark for my taste - whether too rude or just doesn't strike a chord, but just turn the page. There's no continuity and you'll soon find something outrageously funny.

Carlin's fascination with language is consistent throughout his comedic history. Idiosyncracies of the grammar, word usage, and language evolution he ridicules are caricatures right out of a linguistics text. Linguistics nuts should like Carlin for this reason alone.

Carlin grew up Catholic and making fun of religion is sprinkled throughout this book. Anyone who is recovering from a past history of devoutness should enjoy it - but if you are more than mildly religious, you would probably like Justin Wilson better.

So Carlin mixes the absurd with the profound and manages to make both modes funny while he dissects human nature. I look at him as a Will Rogers or a Mark Twain who swears a lot, watches people, analyzes, and writes down his conclusions - what a great job. Or, as he puts it, "So little time...so little to do."

4.0 out of 5 stars Someone thinks beyond the mundane, March 16, 2007
This review is from: Three Times Carlin: An Orgy of George (Paperback)
George has that knack to stir up thought processes that otherwise one would not know existed; sometimes it is like ' howcome i did not think about it'.

his views are hilarious, thought provoking and food for thought. one wonders how one's mind has become so automatic living in this world, so as not to think critically.

a few reads of George every night after a hard day is soothing to the soul, a smooth entry into dream land.

any more treatises on the horizon George?

If you love dark, morbid and obscene humor you've come to the right place. This book belongs on the shelf of every person who loves a good insult, a kick in the nuts and a headbutt. Figuratively speaking, of course. 3 books in one and you should immediately buy it, read it and keep in the library as the new family jewel. An instant classic, this book will make Carlin enter the ranks of great humorists in American litterature.

5.0 out of 5 stars A keepsake, August 31, 2008
This is some of George Carlin's last works before his death this year. It has a collection of all of Carlin's random thoughts and his humor. Even though I will miss him and his humor I have this wonderful book to read and re-read again

The material gets 5 stars, the book only 4 because a few times I found material repeated. it's not the same things and George adds more to the rant each time, but this could have been a better book if it was organized into one large book instead of 3.5 separate books in the same binding.

about the binding, it's weak. If you take your books with you and read on the go, there are too many pages in the paperback to hold it all together for long. I've had my copy less than a year and a few pages are falling out, but I am rougher then most.

I don't know of you can get the extra material in another books, and it is thrifty to get several books in one container, but this is a wonderful collection of humor in a poorly bound package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bathroom Reading!, January 9, 2012
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Three Times Carlin: An Orgy of George (Paperback)
This was my bathroom reading for a few years. Since it's 3 books, it took quite some time. A few pages here and chapter there (depending on the time of day). I bought these after he passed away for a bit of nostalgia. The books are funny and are still socially viable today. He definitely was one of our history's greatest thinkers.

Buy this if you need something to pass the time in the bathroom. It helps....trust me.
