Book Description

July 1997
A funeral parlor in a small Midwestern town is the setting for these three darkly funny and touching short plays. In Tell Tale, we enter the private thoughts of a respectable married mortician, lost in passion for a beautiful real estate broker who markets to the bereaved. In Thief of Tears, we meet Mac, the attractive daughter of an upper-class WASP family who frequents the Viper Room and steals jewelry from corpses. And in Thirteen Things about Ed Carpolotti, a newly widowed suburban matron finds her world crashing about her only to be rescued by love from beyond the grave.

A L.A. Theatre Works full-cast performance featuring: Bruce Davison, Laura San Giacomo, Rue McClanahan

This review is from: Three Viewings (Paperback)
I'd like to start off by saying that I haven't actually read this play; I've seen it. And it was absolutely amazing.

I'd never heard of it, but I preorder tickets for all of the shows at a local theatre, and this was the most recent.

Basically it is three different monologues, with the only things tying them together the tragedy of the tales, and the fact that they take place in a funeral home (hence the name "Three Viewings").

They are so perfectly written, so tragic and yet humorous that you don't know whether to laugh or cry yet somehow end up doing both. This is the most outstanding, touching, wonderful play that I've seen, and I've seen quite a few.

Buy the book, and you'll be doing yourself a favor. But if the play is every showing near you, get tickets immediately. It is an absolutely outstanding, unforgettable drama.
