3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected but kept me interested
Alright, I admit I was expecting from the title of the book, for this to be a kinky accounting of the much sought after male fantasy of a threesome but what I received instead was a nicely crafted tale of a woman who expected more out of life than what was dealt to her. In Threesome, you will meet Sasha, an up and coming progressive lady who knows what she wants and...

I was involved in a threesome of my own: this book, the Sandman and myself. The Sandman had to wait on me because I was up until 4:00 AM finishing this fast-paced, sexually charged novel titled Threesome: Where Seduction, Power and Basketball Collide.

Meet Sasha, a thirty-something modern woman, who finds herself in one of the most unthinkable situations and then proceeds to let her life spin completely out of control. Men, money, and self-destructive behavior aids in her hurricane funnel and one could never predict where it would touch down. Walking through Sasha's life as an observer, I found myself talking to her the whole time, but she never listened.

Brenda L Thomas tells a fascinating tale of a woman who struggles through life making poor choices that have heartbreaking consequences in this 138 pg. novel. This book grabbed my attention from the beginning and didn't let go until she was through with me. I appreciated the narrative of different points of views and the tact that was used in racy sex scenes. This was a quick and easy read. My only disappointment came at the end, whereas a reader, I recognized it couldn't have possibly ended any other way but I still wanted something more. This book may not be for everyone because of the sexual content. If you don't mind that then you will enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense!!, September 15, 2002

This review is from: Threesome: Where Seduction, Power and Basketball Collide (Paperback)
When Brenda L. Thomas read the prologue to Threesome at an afternoon Montsho Booksigning, I knew I had to buy the book to finish the story...and I did that very night! This is an exciting, easy-to-read, page-turner that anyone can enjoy.

The story is largely narrated by Sasha Bourianni, an attractive 38 year-old executive secretary whose affair with a married man triggers a series of events that sends her life into a whirlwind that includes a career change (a personal assistant to an NBA star), relationship issues with her employer, her ex-lover, and the new love of her life. This is a short novel (about 130 pages) but the author gives us enough background on each character to help us understand their motivation and get into their psyche. For example, Sasha's views of self worth stems from a life-long longing for her mother (who died while giving birth to Sasha) and a childhood of being raised by a hustling, swinging father. Quite naturally, these experiences and unresolved issues shapes her adult ideologies on men, love, and sex and eventually explains her constant self-destructive behavior.
The supporting cast of characters was interesting as well and some had a few secrets and drama of their own to keep your nose in the book. I will admit, that based on the title and subtitle, I didn't think it would be the type of book I would want to read. But after the first few pages, it was clear that my preconceived notions about the book were wrong. I was hooked from the very beginning through the very end. This is a perfect book for a lazy summer afternoon...

True, Threesome is a short book. Anything less than 200 pages nowadays is considered a rarity. However, often, authors fill those extra pages with fluff and irrelevant information. This is not the case with Threesome.

Our heroine, Sasha, is a woman unconvinced that she is deserving of a life void of drama. So she encourages, if not creates, it. After a major incident she is forced to part with her lover, who also happens to be a married man. But when real love comes knocking, will Sasha deem herself deserving or will she create another episode in the self-destructive life she has built?

Thomas' writing is good. Her storytelling is great as she accounts Sasha's saga through first person narration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wet Sensation!!!!, December 1, 2001
This review is from: Threesome: Where Seduction, Power and Basketball Collide (Paperback)
Brenda Thomas captured the essence of every character in Threesome, especially, Sasha. The graphic description of each event was very powerful and real. I was so into the book that it made me feel like I was one of the characters. It tantalized every inch of my body and soul. It was very seductive and gave me a clearer vision into the distorted world of sex, power and control. It is definitely a book to read when you are alone (...). Brenda Thomas has out done herself in writing Threesome. E.Lynn Harris and Toni Morrison look out cause Brenda Thomas is on the loose! Good Luck to Threesome!

4.0 out of 5 stars Threesome, November 20, 2002

Sasha Borrianni has suffered enough torment in her love life to satisfy several daytime soap operas. Her relationships, like many women, always seems to carry her along a slippery slope toward Mr. Wrong. When a shocking tragedy involving a married man she loved forces her to evaluate her lifestyle, Sasha searches for ways to regain the respect of her family, friends, and the important respect one has for themselves.

As the press from the scandal dies down an unbelievable job opportunity is steered in Sasha's direction. With the unique opportunity to perform her new high profile job in her own creative manner at a drastically increased salary, our main character feels that there is nothing to stop her from getting her life on track. Nevertheless, an explosive dilemma looms on the horizon for Sasha when her lifestyle regresses into web of deception, lies, and shameful indiscretions.

Threesome, the debut novel from author Brenda L.Thomas challenges us to follow the main character into an intoxicating, heart pounding story as well as evaluate our own behavior and how it relates to our situations. Ms. Thomas has the gift of creating an intricate plot in a short amount of pages. She has hooked legions of readers through strong character development and enhancing a reality known to many who understand that money is not an automatic answer to problems of the soul.

I'm most impressed, when an author can captivate readers with a story about a main character like Sasha Borrianni. It's often easy for readers to support a character who's fundamentally good and conducts themselves in a manner that we respect and admire. Sasha, although kind at heart, makes choices that are mildly offensive to most men and are clearly repulsive to most women. Despite her leading this double life, as a reader you'll nonetheless find yourself hoping she finds her way.

Threesome is an exciting read that might entice readers to finish in one sitting. I'd recommend it for both men and women. The charismatic character Phoenix Carter will be more than enough to intrigue the male readers while Sasha's reckless behavior and numerous sexual escapades will fascinate everyone else.

I give Threesome a must read rating of four stars.

Overall a great read... I was very impressed how the author was able to capture my interest and own it until the end of the story. The overall substance of the story overwhelmed me. The author was able to guide me through the story as if I actually knew the characters. I again was awed with the sensual content of the story and the steamy and exotic love making scenes. This story is about a young lady encountering the demons of lust but pleading to be loved and appreciated for who she is. Sashas' mother died in childbirth; therefore she never knew her mother and her father raised her the best he could consider the situation. All in all, Sasha was looking for someone to love and appreciate her and she thought she found it with Cole, however, Cole was married and could only give but so much of himself. Phoenix the basketball star, young, fine and alluring hired Sasha to be his personal consultant, however, Phoenix had other intentions and throughout the story you will see how these two men played a large part in Sashas' life and the impact of both men. Again, I did enjoy this book, and I understand Ms. Thomas is a new author therefore, I would like to welcome and encourage her to continue writing, this was a great book and a serious story with substance. "You've got to love and respect yourself" first and foremost...

4.0 out of 5 stars The Dangerous Three: Power, Money and Sex, April 30, 2004
This review is from: Threesome: Where Seduction, Power and Basketball Collide (Paperback)
Threesome, the debut novel by Brenda L. Thomas is captivating right from the start. Sasha Borianni is a smart and sexy thirty-eight-year-old woman who is involved with Cole, a married man. After a night of passion, she thinks she hears something and turns toward her bedroom's doorway. Standing there with a loaded gun is Cole's wife Paulette. Cole, who is lying next to Sasha, wakes up and before he can ask any questions, the gun goes off.

This scene sets the pace not only for the novel, but also for the rollercoaster ride known as Sasha's life. After the traumatizing shooting, Sasha tries to get her life back on track, but it's difficult. The media will not let the story die plus her bedroom is a constant memory, forcing her to sleep downstairs.

When she is offered a dream job opportunity as a personal assistant to Phoenix Carter, one of the NBA's hottest players, Sasha jumps at the chance for a new career and a new beginning.

Although Phoenix is engaged to be married, he lives the fast life that many million-dollar making athletes lead. When he's not on the court, it's all about extravagant parties, fancy cars, expensive jewelry, and of course sex, and lots of it. At twenty-three years old, he is barely older than Sasha's son Owen, but she finds Phoenix irresistibly sexy and before long, the two are involved in a torrid affair. Not only is Sasha on-call as his assistant, but also she is at his beck and call in terms of sex. Although she feels guilty about her relationship with Phoenix it definitely has its perks, such as the Lexus SUV she now drives and other fine gifts including a diamond tennis bracelet. However, what she really wants is true love with a man that only she can claim. But does she deserve such a love?

Trent seems to think so. Trent, who Sasha meets at her best friend's house, is a handsome electrician who is the same age as Sasha and a romantic at heart. Inevitably, they quickly fall into a whirlwind romance. With political aspirations, Trent appears to be her dream man, but he has issues of his own. Unbeknownst to Trent, Sasha is sexually involved with Phoenix and can't say no. When she finally tries to end the affair, it turns out to be a dangerous decision.

Threesome is a page-turner that gives a glimpse of the fast life of professional athletes. At the same time it presents the interesting perspective of "the other woman." The biggest plus is the author's characterization of Sasha. Readers will love her or hate her and will certainly question "what is going on with this lady? Is this a midlife crisis at its worst?" The negatives about the book include the excessive name dropping of designer brands. Also, some parts of the novel, such as the lesbian encounter, seemed to be thrown in purely for shock value. All in all, Threesome is a good, fast read with intense sex and an unforgettable protagonist.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nonsurprising look at the NBA Lifestyle, September 2, 2003

This review is from: Threesome: Where Seduction, Power and Basketball Collide (Paperback)
Ever want to read a novel to be entertained without thinking too much? This is it. A very enjoyable, quick read on the plane or day at the beach.

After personal tragedy with lovers our lead character lands a position as the personal assistant to a young NBA star who she immediately helps organize his life and upgrade her lifestyle in the process. But this very attractive 38-year-old women is just too irresistible to too many men and that leads to an interesting novella of falling in and out of bed at the same time she is falling further into confusion.

Since the author was the personal assistant to Stephon Marbury of the Phoenix Suns, you can be assured there is some truth to the stories which would no longer shock any fan of the NBA. I recommend this book if you want a short, mildly erotic read.

First of all I read Brenda L Thomas book "The Velvet Rope" which was a page turner for sure, but when she spoke on Sasha a brief moment in that book I knew I had to meet her. I keep telling myself thoughout this book that this character is 38 yrs old which really threw me off. She had it going on. Her relationships with these men were totally sexual. To think that she didn't have a mother, sounded more like she didn't have a father. Each man wanted her sex and she loved it. Phoenix would be any personnel assistant dream boss. What single women wouldn't fall for him. I knew her and Cole would not last after his wife's suicide. And Trent, well he had his own issues with baby-mamma drama. I personally thought she should have stayed with Phoenix and rode the wave.

After Ms. Thomas read the prologue at the book club meeting - I knew that I had to finish the book - which I did on the flight back home. This was an excellent book. There was not one page that could have been left out. There were no fillers - if you missed reading one page - you missed something that was vital to the story. Waiting for the next one!
