Book Description

After a terrorist attack on a reservation in Oregon leaves thousands dead, Jack Sigler, call sign King and his Chess Team—Queen, Rook, Bishop and Knight—must protect the only survivor, thirteen year-old Fiona Lane. When a death in the family pulls King away, and the rest of the team is sent on a mission, Fort Bragg is attacked by a strange and overwhelming force. When the dust settles, Fiona is gone.

But the attack is part of a larger offensive. Around the world the last speakers of ancient languages are being systematically exterminated. As they fight to find the mastermind behind the killings, and Fiona, the team is hunted by strange creatures that defy explanation—living statues, genetically modified monsters and walking megaliths—sent by an enemy from their past. If not stopped, he will be able to remake himself, and the world.

Calling on help from old friends and ancient heroes, the team fights their most desperate battle yet, not just to save the world as we know it, but to rescue a little girl who wants nothing more than to call King Dad.

An ancient tower holds the key to unlocking a horrifying secret hidden within mankind’s most antiquated languages. If unlocked, the world as we know it will cease to exist.

Jeremy Robinson’s third book in the Jack Sigler series is a rocket-powered thriller, combining high adrenaline action, smart science, ancient legends, and stunning locations.

Praise for Threshold:

“Jeremy Robinson’s Threshold is one hell of a thriller, wildly imaginative and diabolical, which combines ancient legends and modern science into a non-stop action ride that will keep you turning the pages until the wee hours. Relentlessly gripping from start to finish, don’t turn your back on this book!” --Douglas Preston, New York Times bestselling author of Impact and Blasphemy

"With Threshold Jeremy Robinson goes pedal to the metal into very dark territory.  Fast-paced, action-packed and wonderfully creepy!  Highly recommended!" --Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of The King of Plagues  and Rot & Ruin

Threshold is a blisteringly original tale that blends the thriller and horror genres in a smooth and satisfying hybrid mix.  With his new entry in the Jack Sigler series, Jeremy Robinson plants his feet firmly on territory blazed by David Morrell and James Rollins.  The perfect blend of mysticism and monsters, both human and otherwise, make Threshold as groundbreaking as it is riveting.” – Jon Land, New York Times bestselling author of Strong Enough to Die

“Jeremy Robinson is the next James Rollins.” – Chris Kuzneski, New York Times bestselling author of The Lost Throne and The Prophecy

"Jeremy Robinson's Threshold sets a blistering pace from the very first page and never lets up. This globe-trotting thrill ride challenges its well-crafted heroes with ancient mysteries, fantastic creatures, and epic action sequences. For readers seeking a fun rip-roaring adventure, look no further." --Boyd Morrison, bestselling author of The Ark

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In Robinson's wildly inventive third Chess Team adventure (after Instinct), the U.S. president, Tom Duncan, joins the team in mortal combat against an unlikely but irresistible gang of enemies, including "regenerating capybara, Hydras, Neanderthals, giant rock monsters." Special ops team leader Jack Sigler, call sign King, has two major tasks: leading his extraordinary compatriots (Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight) into action and protecting his 12-year-old Native American foster daughter, Fiona Lane. When Fiona is kidnapped during an attack on Fort Bragg, N.C., King swings into action, intent on bringing her home. Aided by Hercules (yes, that Hercules), King proves once again up to the task. Final events point to a continuation of the ongoing struggle to save mankind. Video game on a page? Absolutely. Fast, furious unabashed fun? You bet. (Apr.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Electrifying! April 7, 2011
By Jake
Format:Hardcover
Jack Sigler (aka "King") has always been beyond tough, never letting anything come before his duty to his country. As the leader of the Chess Team special ops task force, King has distanced himself from all attachments and meaningful relationships believing this was the only way to stay strong and focused. All of that goes out the window when fourteen year old Fiona Lane comes into his life. The lone survivor of a terrorist attack on the Siletz reservation in Oregon, Fiona is suddenly left with no family or home. The Chess Team has been tasked to protect and care for her until the terrorists can be brought down. Over time King and Fiona grow closer, forming an inseparable father/daughter bond.

King is suddenly called away for a family emergency, only to find out later that Fiona has disappeared amidst a terror filled onslaught at Fort Bragg. Meanwhile, innocent people all over the world are being wiped out, all of them being the last speakers of ancient languages. King and The Chess Team will now have to split up in order to both rescue Fiona and put a stop to a madman's evil plans for mankind. King has faced his share of horrors and atrocities, but this time it's personal and nothing will get in his way.

If you thought Pulse and Instinct were fun, just hold on tight my fellow thriller lovers. Jeremy Robinson pulls out all the stops in Threshold making this the most electrifying installment in the series so far. Robinson somehow takes the Tower of Babel, killer statues, giant lizards and insects, Stonehenge, and medieval lore and mixes it all together in this crazy, relentless story that is simply impossible to put down.

In the midst of the madness and larger than life battles, we find a lot more character development than we've seen in the series thus far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book March 29, 2011
By Joshua
Format:Hardcover
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me turing the pages. I was a huge Michael Crichton fan. When he passed I was really disappointed that I would not find an author who could catch my imagination like him. Jeremy Robinson's books have filled this void. Robinson's books are definately a lot more action packed, but with that Crichton feel.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the Chess Team novels. I would recommend reading those first before getting into this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Tidbits June 23, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Jeremy Robinson cannot be accused of lacking imagination. In his previous books, his ideas have sometimes taken precedence over strong writing, but in "Threshold" he takes it up a notch and shows some definite improvement to go along with his nonstop thrills.

"Threshold" once again takes us behind the scenes of the Chess Team, led by a Delta operative codenamed King. This time, King has responsibility for a foster daughter, and this allows a few moments of heartwarming love and paternal emotions to emerge. Overall, though, it sets the stage for another page-turner, giving us more personal reasons to care about who will survive the carnage and mayhem this time around. Once again, the Chess Team faces supernatural creatures and real-time enemies, and the believability factor will test some readers' limits. That said, if you're willing to go with Robinson's imaginative themes, you'll find some fun stuff. Here, he goes back to the Tower of Babel and the biblical account of the confusion of languages. Only a few scattered people groups in today's world still speak bits of that original language, and if that language is put back together into one cohesive speech pattern, it can enable the creative power that God himself used to form the world. Upon this wild premise, Robinson leads us and the Chess Team on a romp from South America to Vietnam to Israel and England and . . . Well, just about everywhere. If he isn't bringing golems and references to Merlin into the mix, he's taking us to the original site of the Tower of Babel.

It's a fast-paced plot, the action scenes are entertaining, and this time around we do get thought-provoking questions about the power of speech and language. We also get a few surprises regarding King's own past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caution, thrill ride ahead April 14, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This was another wild thrill ride by Jeremy Robinson. I found Jeremy's books via a recommendation from James Rollins (as I was searching for his upcoming books). After reading James recommendation, I took a chance on a couple of Jeremy's books (Kronos and Antarktos Rising). I really liked those books so I took another chance on the first chess team book. After that, I was hooked!

As for Threshold, I really enjoyed it. The central characters become a little more developed and with some twists with what we thought we knew about one character! Once the action starts it is a thrill a minute. I couldn't put it down. My only complaint is with the ending. It definitely leaves you hanging and wanting more! ;-) I know I will be not so patiently waiting for the next Chess Team/Jack Sigler adventure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Robinson does it again! March 31, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I've been a fan of Jeremy Robinson since The Didymus Contingency. Six books later he just keeps getting better. (He has more than 6, but I haven't gotten to all of them yet. You can bet your bottom I will, though!)

Jack Sigler's foster daughter Fiona disappears after a strange and devastating attack on Fort Bragg, leading Jack and the rest of the Chess Team racing to find her before her insulin pump shuts down. The search spans the entire globe and leads to new faces, as well as familiar ones, including an old enemy Jack never thought he'd see again.

I love the way Robinson blends science and mythology to create a story that is just beyond the normal, everyday thriller. Add to that the fact that this book has more twists and turns than the Blue Ridge Parkway, and you've got another winner.

He truly is a master of this genre, and I look forward to the next installment.

It seems this is more and more the trend with popular books now the high Kindle pricing. It makes it hard to justify a Kindle purchase when you lose $7.00 when you buy it.,
