A very good book, but some caviats,
By Zen Druid (Aloha, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
In this book, Bill Harris gives the background on his Holosync program, promotes it, and provides a number of tools for change that would be most useful for anyone using the Holosync technology. No bones about it. Problem is, I'm not really sure who the target audience would be for someone to purchase this through Amazon. If you are doing the Holosync program, you will eventually receive this book as part of the program. And you will find that it really contains nothing new that you haven't heard on the introductory CD or read in the support materials. Not that repetition isn't good and it's nice to have all the information in one handy reference.
If you have no plans to do the Holosync program, this book will really be nothing more to you than a long commercial for the product complete with pages of endorsements. You can find far more referenced sources to learn about brain entrainment technologies elsewhere if that's what you are looking for, you can read about some of the wild experiences some people have had using these techniques in Robert Monroe's books (he of Hemi-Sync fame and founder of the Monroe Institute) which pre-dated Harris' work by some time, and you can find way better books on change and spiritual growth. I guess if you think you might want to do Holosync this could give you what you need to know about it, along with getting the intro CD (I don't know why they just don't package that with the book, except then you wouldn't be on Centerpointe's mailing list). This is NOT a knock of the Holosync technology which is great, but I think you should know what you are getting in this book if you purchase it.

Watch Your Wallet,
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
Bill Harris is a very, very bright guy. Thresholds of the Mind is an interesting book, and at times his insights are quite profound. BUT watch out for your wallet. The guy is a master salesman. First, there are the introductory Holosync meditation CDs which are relatively expensive compared to other CDs using the same technology. Then there are more levels of the meditation CDs for more $$. And then there are the online courses, the retreats, etc ... He's always looking for a way to take your money and without a doubt he does it in a very professional manner. Just be aware that there is a high level of commitment required to complete the Centerpointe program, and the total cost is quite expensive. My advice is to not get involved unless you are really, really sure you are willing to commit.
In my opinion Bill Harris is doing a service to all of us by providing an unusual and productive perspective on life, but I feel that it is very important that people understand that they should not enter into the financial commitment to the Centerpointe program without realizing that they also have to make a commitment of their own time to make the end result successful. By the way, this is a positive review ... just think before spending your money. I think Holosync is great!

Awesome book!,
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
This book is a great source of explaination as to why so many of us feel so trapped by our fears, anxiety, depression, etc. Bill discusses his idea of thresholds which is the limit an individual can take in response to stress. This book is written with his meditation CD program in mind, which have to be ordered through his website. I have been in his program for two years and it is the most life changing program I have ever been involved with.
When an individual reaches a high level of stress (high level in his/her perspective) the individual's threshold is pushed against and s/he starts exhibiting negative emotion such as anxiety, anger, depression and so on. To deal with these emotions an individual uses his/her personal chosen coping mechanism. Examples of coping mechanisms are: over eating, drug/alcohol use, explosion of anger, retreating from everything (depression), becoming a workaholic, etc. In using the Holosync program (or even traditional meditation - which works, but is much slower than Holosync) the individual raises his or her threshold, which allows more tolerance in a situation. It is much like lifting weights to gain muscle, strenthening you as a person. Even if the reader is not interested in the program, the book is very interesting on its own. Anyone interested in meditation and self-help will love this book.

Trying SO HARD to get through this book,
By It's me "logitechgirl" (LONG ISLAND CITY, NEW YORK USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
It's not that it's boring. It's that it's an advertisement.
I recieved this book as a freebee with the holosync prologue. It's got some nice information which is why it's so annoying that the author has to mention how great his program is and why you should get it just about every 5 sentances. I'm up to chapter 3 and I just can't take anymore. If you have the patience to read the constant commercial I guess it's a good book.

Not much info here,
By
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
I found myself going through this book at an increasingly rapid pace. As with everything Bill Harris says there is a very, very low, signal to noise ratio.
The information in this book could be delivered in a well-written paragraph about what binaural beats do. I'm not be the person to write that paragaph but here's an attempt- Our brains are operating at 4 levels of frequency at varying degrees. Meditation can help focus you into one level but it is a long and painful process vs. listening to the CD, which can work without requiring mental attention. This meditative state helps you recognize and change the bad mental patterns which you developed in childhood to protect yourself.

Good introduction to a method beyond words,
By
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
I read this book after beginning to use the Holosync CD series; I actually got it as a bonus gift from the Author.
The book does a good job of giving the general audience a background to this method for accelerated meditation; however for me it did not offer that much new material since I had already read about the method in the materials I got in connection with the Holosync CD set. The problem with personal change is that real change goes beyond the intellect; beyond verbal explanations. This book is like a recipe for a fantastic dish - you get an idea about the dish but to taste it you have to actually prepare it! Buy the book if you want to get more details of this recipe for personal growth before actually taking action - otherwise to straight for the real thing.

Deeply explanatory,
By
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
Bill Harris goes beyond simple explanations in this profoundly powerful, yet easily understood gem. This is the type of book that gives you the ah hah reaction to the whys of certain actions taken in your life, and breaks it down so it is understandable. Not your typical self help style book, that may offer exercises, but guides you along the path of discovery. Read this book, but also go to Bill Harris' web page and order his meditating style self help called Holosync. This is the stuff that will give you tremendous breakthroughs, and reading more on self help will be because you want to, not because your searching for the answer. Life through Holosync becomes quiet, less confusing, and clearer. Take it from me, the stuff works and I don't like to meditate.

Pure Hype,
By
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
The author of this book, Bill Harris, is a huckster. A low-grade plaid-pantsed salesman whose singular purpose is to make as much money as possible. The program that the book sells ad-nauseum is extremely over-priced. The techniques described (ad-nauseum) are very basic NLP (Neruo Linguistic Programming) and have been available for years. You can get the same audio recordings on you-tube for free. This book is simply a come-on designed as an inducement to sign up for an outrageously expensive lengthy course of study, practice and retreats (the cost of a 5-day retreat is about $2500.00).
All of what is covered in this book and in the ensueing course "training" is available free or for very little cost on the internet and in your local bookstore or here on Amazon. Don't waste your money and be insulted by this Charlatan.

A Powerful "Complete" Philosophy of Personal Growth,
By
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
Bill Harris will, in this book, recommend his "Holosync" Audio Soundtracks as a major method of evolutionary change. I am on level II of Holosync and love it.
However, even without using his Audio Meditation Tools, this book is an incredible model of personal growth. He tells exactly where all addictions come from, and why all dysfunctional behaviors are merely attempts to keep the current "system" from being overwhelmed. He tells how to stop resisting personal growth through dysfunctional behaviors, and instead become a "witness", watching yourself grow. You will experience physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional change, and gain a much greater measure of happiness and peace. It helps you understand yourself, and how you create your own obstacles through resisting growth. If you are into meditation or any type of personal improvement, get this book. Centerpointe Research Rip Off Scam,
By God Lover (Los Angeles, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thresholds of the Mind (Paperback)
This book is a pontification of Centerpointe Research's Holosync Program. Consider it one long testimonial rather than fact based information. Information in this book focuses solely on anecdotal reports for so-called Holosync Program users. Those who have dealings with Centerpointe have found them to fall into the category of internet rip off companies. There are extremely negative reports on the following sites: The Rip Off Report, Better Business Bureau of Oregon. It seems that this company, and it's pundit Bill Harris are dishonest, do not stand by their "satisfaction guaranteed" policy or cliams of company integrity.
Buyer Beware. It is claimed one will "meditate like a Zen monk" with this program, then when customers don't get the results promised, it is claimed that often "nothing happens...and that's ok, that's how the program is". One must marvel at the audacity of this company to sell absolutely nothing to it's customers. Please file a report with the Oregon Stae Attorney General and The Federal Trade Commission if you have been victimized by this company. |
