Excellent mix of rock, jungle, industrial, August 12, 1999

This review is from: Thrill Kisser (Audio CD)
Tin Star have actally done what the hypesters claim Underworld and the Low-Fidelity All Stars have accomplished: take elements from the worlds of electronica and synthesized them with rock and roll. While Underworld (which is still fantastic) tends to be dance music first with a little rock and the Lo-Fi All Stars get tripped up in their own pyrotechnics, Tin Star seems to have gotten the mix right. On the industrial-sounding "Head," the trippy "Disconnected Child" and the anthemic "Viva!," Tin Star rock with the best of them. But its on their slower, more melodic songs that Tin Star prove they know how to craft a song and not just find good grooves. "Wonderful World" spins out with melody and rhythm, with a kick ass pitter-patter jungle beat to boot. "Rain Check" and the beautiful "Don't Say" are songs to play while with your girlfriend, something that you certainly couldn't do with, say, industrial nonsense from Filter, Stabbing Westward or the other NIN rip-offs. This is a diverse album that shows great songs don't need to come straight from any particular genre.

The last hope for modern music?, May 27, 2001
This review is from: Thrill Kisser (Audio CD)
Tin Star's, "The Thrill Kisser," is a wonderful mix of techno, jungle, pop, jazz, and rock. While others attempt the mixture, no band out there today has anything close to Tin Star's sound. From the upbeat Head, to the melancholy Destruction, "The Thrill Kisser" really delivers. The cd moves at a nice clip, begining fast, and slowing down toward the end. Initally, I only listened to the dancy VIVA! and Disconnected Child, but after about 2 months in my cd rotation, I began skipping over thoes tracks and absorbing the likes of the mellow, though thoroughly enjoyable, Wonderful World and Picture of a Girl. The mood they set is like no other. This is a beautiful cd. I wholeheartedly recomend it to any fan of pop, rock, jazz, techno, jungle, or house. An amazing compilation from one of the new masters of synth. Here's hoping their new album, The American, is just as good!

A Mix of Both Techno & Rock, July 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Thrill Kisser (Audio CD)
I bought this CD primarily because of the hype involved with the group's more popular song entitled "Head." However, there are songs on the CD that top "Head." The songs include a variety of songs ranging from upbeat tunes resembling techno to slower songs. As most CDs this one has a few weak songs as most CDs do. The other songs certainly make up for the weaker. It's a much better CD than I had expected and I highly reccomend it.
