A classic from a pioneer NYC ska band,
By A Customer
This review is from: Thrill ME Up (Audio CD)
Thrill Me Up was the second full length album released by this trailblazing ska band and the last featuring the charismatic Cavo and Nene, the "Unity Two." The production quality of this disc was disappointing but the tunes still rule, capturing those sweaty skank filled nights when rudeboys and girls packed CBGBs and the Big Kahuna to watch the Toasters do their thing. Vocals and songwriting on this album were split between Rob Hingly and Cavo Dinsmore who do a fine job, and the regrettable efforts by Lionel Bernard on Haitian Frustration and Johnny Goes Ska. Despite the weak points, this disc is filled with Toasters classics like Decision at Midnight, Go Girl, and the title cut, not to mention fiery instrumental Frankenska which used to open all their live shows. The new Moon release adds some essential tracks not on the original release. Brixton Beat was the band's first recording and a precursor to East Side Beat, found on Skaboom. The Haitian Frustration remix is actually quite superior to the original and redeems its inclusion on the album. The liner notes are also great, filling in some of the band's interesting history. This disc is a must for the essential ska collection.

2-tone ska dose not get any better than this. A collection of pure classics anyway you look at it. Sure, mayeb if you own the cd's included here, it might not be worth it, but if you want a collection af all toasters cd's, this one is for you, and if you don't, than this one is for you. CHEERS!

I find the Toasters a good steadly band. Not the cream of Ska ands but nothing to complain about. Certainly better then Skaboom. I have no regrets at having this in my collection but I'm also not going to Rave about it.
