Book Description

A "writer of merit" ---Mystery Scene Magazine

Like John Grisham and D.W. Buffa, award-winning author J.D. Trafford created a smart legal thriller that keeps the reader turning pages.

Michael Collins burned his suits and ties in a beautiful bonfire before leaving New York and taking up residence at Hut No. 7 in a run-down Mexican resort. He dropped-out, giving up a future of billable hours and big law firm paychecks. But, there are millions of dollars missing from a client's account and a lot of people who want Michael Collins to come back. When his girlfriend is accused of murder, he knows that there really isn't much choice.

"No Time To Run" has been an Amazon Top 100 bestseller and a best-selling Amazon Legal Thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this September 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This summer I was looking for something new and had a hard time finding it. Then I stumbled onto "No Time to Run". All I can tell you is it's the best .99 cents I have spent in a very long time. It was fast paced, the characters had real depth (I agree with the other review on those points), and I didn't see the end coming. Simply, I just loved it. Thank you Amazon -- yet again you provide me content that comes out of nowhere and surprises the hell out of me. I hope Mr. Trafford writes more books soon. Definite talent!

3.0 out of 5 stars A little editing would be helpful February 19, 2012

Trafford's No Time To Run was a great, fun, quick read. I was really taken aback, however, by the repeated misuse of the word 'your' for 'you're' or 'you are'. Even, or perhaps especially, in escape reading, as this was for me, I find stumbling over those typical word problems to be disconcerting. I'm no English teacher, but I would prefer my leisurely reading to not make me start wishing I had a red pen handy!

2.0 out of 5 stars deus ex machina ... denique et denique February 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has been praised in the reviews as a great "beach read." That depends on how many pina coladas the reader has had. There are just too many unexplained major plot transitions --- including at the conclusion! The protagonist is just the luckiest dude going! Using terminology appropriate to the just-passed Super Bowl: It is (relatively) easy to write a story "between the 20s", but progressing through the "red zone" is what is really hard --- and this book does not accomplish that.

That's the big picture.

Getting back to the protagonist: The "legal thriller" literature is full of flawed attorneys who are noble at their core. Yet another such "hero" is justified only if s/he is engaging in some way, as are (for instance, in random order)) Dismas Hardy, Mike Daley, Mickey Haller, Victor Carl, and Rusty Sabich. The current guy just doesn't make the cut. This may be because the reader is not given the chance to get to know him --- but fleshing out characters is also really hard.

Both of the preceding issues largely nullify the many positives of the page-turning plot that the author has crafted. That's a shame.

I liked the characters and the plot, not sure if it could have worked, nor sure why there is a sequel. Seemed more like a once off.
