Thank God for New End Original. Members from previously great bands, Far and Texas Is The Reason, join up to make the best album I've heard in a very long time. Great riffs, great vox, just all around god music. Some is reminiscent to Far, but New End is really just a style all their own. This is a very good album by a very good band and if you love rock, you'll love Thriller. Buy.

I thought the record was brilliant, stunning, shimmering and glorious. As with Far and onelinedrawing- who, contrary to the opinion of Rodeo Jones, I found to be anything BUT mediocre especially when you get to see him live at Skrappy's in Tucson, (Jonah rules!)- the songs are largely hit-and-miss, but overall, I think Thriller by New End offers something for fans of both Far and onelinedrawing. It serves up re-recorded, and often drastically different versions of the songs Halo, Better Than This, and 14-41 to Jonah-hungry onelinedrawing fans and offers the harder emo-core edge of Far while adding some completely new stylistic elements that could potentially appeal to an even wider audience. While we may disagree about onlinedrawing, I definitely share Rodeo Jones' opinion that this record ranks up there with Dredg's Leitmotif in terms of groundbreaking awesomeness. A staple for any fan of Emo-Core, hell, it's a staple for anyone who hates boybands. In fact, I would say that not buying this record amounts to nothing short of an exlpicit declaration of undying love for teenie pop. It's time to pick sides, which one are you on?

New End Original,

I got this album the other day and thought it was amazing. What i realised though is that some of the tracks are fairly forgetable. The start of the album is amazing but it goes downhill slightly. The mellow tracks that are fairly long are nothing compared to the gentle guitar strumming tracks on albums such as Jimmy Eat World's 'Clarity'. Here is a little break down of each track:1.Lukewarm-This track is pure brilliance as it is instantly accessable and very Poppy. The lyrics are amazing also. 2.14-41-This track has something very special about it. A subtle catchyness the lyrics go great with the music. 3.Hostage-In my mind the highlight of the album. The way it starts off so mellow with great guitars to build up to emotional fueled ending is just so amazing, i love this track. 4.Leper Song-This isn't that good, its all piano based and very mellow, i'm not keen on the lyrics and the track never really goes anywhere. 5.Titanic-This song is very catchy which contrasts the negative lyrics. A very good track indeed. the end is nice too. 6.Better Than Ever-kinda like Far. I do like Far, but i aint keen on this track, once again doesn't really go anywhere. 7.Weary Progress-This track is short but is the perfect length to keep it interesting. Very fast power pop and catchy as hell! 8.#1 Defender-One of the better mellow tracks. The drumming is really good on this track and it doesn't rely too much on guitarwork. 9.Halo-Quite good, nothing too original though. The chorus is ok. 10.The Name-This is probably the albums worst moment. Boring!it is bad emo. 11.Better Than This-This is quite good, a fairly mellow and long track and quite good to end the album on.

Music as a Language,
By A Customer

I've met Jonah, the lead singer of New End Original at many of his shows, and he is inspiring to me as a musician. With New End Original he accels to new heights. All four Albums of Far's were incredible and his 6 ep's from onelinedrawing add to the cake. Now anyone who likes to hear music that isn't over commercialized or water down to fit into a 3 minute radio slot, this is the band to hear. Music is a language, and New End Original speaks loud and clear to the ears of anyone who has a sense of what good music should sound like.

[....]I feel its is perhaps the strongest rock release of 2001 so far (with Jimmy Eat World's masterful "Bleed American" falling right behind). It unites a bunch of guys who have been around to see the scene into an absolutely stunning project. Every track is excellent. Jonah's songwriting shines with the backing of extremely talented musicians and the production is spot-on. If you are into stright-up rock, there is no doubt this record will appeal to you and I highly reccomend it.

Jonah Does It Again!!,

Ever since Far broke up, I'd been heartbroken that Jonah, the lead singer, would never have a similar band. Don't get me wrong, I love Onelinedrawing, but it just didn't have the same edge that Far had. Well, New End Original, definitely brings back that edge full force. Every song, from start to finish, is catchy, witty, and emotional. Once again, Jonah and the boys have created the perfect album.

Well this band was short lived, and that is very unfortunate. I've been a longtime Jonah fan and was very pleased to finally see him record an album with a full band (featuring ex members of Texas is the Reason, another incredible band). This album has the makings for greatness, and it does not let down. Just to hear Jonah's incredible vocals is enough. His voice is filled with emotion, and you can tell he truly loves his music. This album to me, pretty much sounds like, hmmmm, onelinedrawing with good production and a full band. In fact a few of the songs have been previously recorded on his onelinedrawing ep's. What I really like about this album, is with a full band, Jonah and company are able to open up the dynamics. There are full on rockers that will have you bouncing around, and then there is full on beauty, which you can just sit there and mellow out to. My honest opinion is that Jonah is one of the greatest musicians currently out there, and the New End stuff will not disappoint, except for the fact that they are now broken up.

One of the best of 2001,
This review is from: Thriller (Audio CD)
Far was a great band, and both of their albums grace my personal top ten list for 90's rock. For a long time, I thought it was a crying shame that they would never make another album, and that their members were in mediocre bands (onelinedrawing, The Revolution Smile). Not any more. New End Original's CD has lived up to all my expectations for the non-existant third Far album while still having a different sound from the emotionally charged hardcore that made them so good. More melodic and punkish, New End Original add a fresh new voice to a music scene with very little new talent developing. Two songs, "14-41" and "Better Than This," are adapted from onelinedrawing songs. Both are highlights of the album, and surpass their original versions (both on "Schetchy Ep 1") in almost every aspect. The new songs are also great. "Better Than Ever" (how funny, both 7+ minute epics start with the words "better than") is remnicent of "Job's Eyes" by Far, only much more extreme. It switches between a death heavy riff and melodic acoustic guitar, and culminates in the only instance of screaming in the entire album. Very dramatic. "Hostage" and "#1 Defender" are also exillerating trips through Jonah's emotions, which show real mastery of his voice, and amazing lyric writing ability. All the other songs are excellent as well. Up there with Dredg, Neurosis, Tool, System of a Down, and Rammstein in tearms of great albums realeased this year. Do not hestiate to buy this. the |
