3.0 out of 5 stars Does the greatest selling album of all time deserve this treatment?
Thriller...The most sold copies in the history of vinyl. Sony releases a 25 year anniversary re-mastered, picture disc. Obviously MJ has recently passed away and with my collection of MJ vinyl, and CD thought this record would be a welcome addition to my collection.

Is Sony simply cashing in? The record itself is gorgeous! But it is given no support! No...

No sleeve to protect it, no heavy duty jacket maybe commemorating Thriller's accolades...

A flimsy, chincy, paper insert; enclosed by a vinyl holder. (think shower-curtain material)

It should have been shipped in a bubble record mailer; instead Amazon shipped it in a box too big...yes a box which appears to have been used many times over. The record itself appears unharmed, but the paper insert was bent and creased. I expected better delivery service from Amazon... which I usually receive.

Thriller itself deserves 5 stars. Sony's treatment of such a landmark and horrendous packaging minus Amazon's poor delivery method drop my total to 3 stars...

No words can describe the thrill (get it? LOL) I felt when I first saw it, it's simply beautiful and at a bargain price.
Definitely a collectors item.
If you're a MJ fan then it's a must.

This review is from: Thriller [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
I PURCHASED THIS GORGEOUS LP FROM AMAZON, AND AS USUAL RECEIVED EXCELLENT SERVICE FROM THEM. THE LP IS JUST BEAUTIFUL AND I GOT IT CHEAPER ON AMAZON THAN WHAT SELLER'S WERE ADVERTISING IT FOR ON EBAY.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great album, cheap packaging, September 24, 2011

This album is great, the record sounds fine, but it comes in cheap wrapping. There is no paper sleeve for it, and the album jacket is just a thin plastic: there is no true album jacket

4.0 out of 5 stars It's up there ...., February 21, 2011

Yes this is the one .... have had it (the original black album) in my LP colletion for many years .... just hooked up my turntable again after 10 years of listening to CD's ... fits right in with all the other legends of the day - Queen, Wings, Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac ... MJ was unusual even back then, in a good way. Will leave it at that :)

5.0 out of 5 stars LOOK ON EBAY FOR CROOKS SELLING THIS FOR $1,000!, January 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Thriller [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Beware, there are suckers born every minute like those who blew $3,000 on a copy of "Thriller" on Ebay after Michael Jackson died. There is one currently listed there for $2,000,000 (with an additional $4 for shipping). How could buyers think, or better yet, how could sellers say something that has close to 50 million copies worldwide is "RARE"?

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest album of the last century, May 20, 2007
This review is from: Thriller [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
where do I start on the King of pop? the man Changed Music as we know it period. everbody that comes after him is in his Musical Debt. He took the best of the Past and created his whole style of music making and creativity. He is a Musical Genius. this Album represents the best in so many styles of Music. hard to believe it's been 25 years. WOW the time sure flys. where do I start::

Wanna Be startin somethin: the Groove and I call it the Jump beat vibe is Classic MJ. His vocals and the Background Swing era call and response and then the trademark classic ending are what classic songs are all about.

Baby Be Mine: this Jam hits so hard and soulful and you can make the argument that this Rod Temperton classic was a Pre-Cursor to New Jack swing on the Groove and those classic MJ vocal runs. still sounds so fresh.

The Girl is Mine: middle of the road track featuring two Musical Icons and it works.though it still sounds milk toasty to me,but it worked in setting the album into Motion.

Thriller:the instrumental element of this track moved me more, but the video made this track for me more than anything else. it fits into Michael Jackson stylings as a Artist.

Beat It: the song that truly broke Racial barriers on MTV and also on Top 40 Radio back in the early 80's. the teaming of MJ and Eddie Van Halen never gets it's full due but it paved the way for a Run DMC and Aerosmith on 'walk this way" and other Rap/Rock Hybrid teamings. Michael jackson's voice really sounds strong on this classic. the programmed drum Beats sound New and have a freshness about them. MJ was on to something

Billie Jean: Arguably the Greatest song Ever. easily the best song of the 80's no doubt. what made this song so great? was it MJ's vocals? was it the Bass? was it the Drums? was it the Story-line? was it the Chrous? was it the Groove or synths? how about all the above and thensome. and Motown 25 when Michael set himself in motion and took off His Legend truly took off. that moment back then in 1983 is still the Single Greatest Musical Performance on TV that I have ever seen. timeless.

Human nature: this song is Jazz. and the build up and emotions felt on this track still will melt you with the ease of Michael's vocals and timing. still so smooth and dreamy.

PYT(Pretty Young Thing): a tough dance groove of a Jam that had the smooth Mackness of Michael's vocals and the background vocals were on point. the Main Writer of this song James Ingram Provided the Groove which he also used on carl carlton's "she's a bad Mamma Jamma" and played the bulk of the instruments on that cut. the same Groove is basically re-cycled here but Producer Quincy Jones adds his trademark Elephant african voicings on here.

the Lady in My Life: what a way to close a classic Album out. a smooth slow jam which has MJ laying it out there. very smooth and timely. the arrangements are all on point..

the Team of Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, were unstoppable.

but the Artist Himself Michael Jackson changed the whole World of Music. He ruled the whole world and he made a Album that it will be talked about 100's of years from now. a Genius with no Limits and a Trend-setter who truly left His Mark. Michael Jackson is a Musical Trail-blazer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thriller, still thrills, chills, and amazes, October 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Thriller [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
I remember this was the greatest thing ever when it came out. It still might be. Michael's passing, may he R.I.P., (& quick side bar, whatever you think of the man, the music is some of the best of its kinds ever, not negotiable) brought this imagery and passion within this particular album and video right back into the forefront of American musical culture.

Another quick sidebar, recently along comes a friend of mine, into DJing who excites me into joining him in the world of spinning, of vinyl. So now that I have plunked down a few hundred on equipment and a few hundred on vinyl from local record stores (please continue to support local vinyl as well as Amazon "big box" efforts), what is an aspiring DJ to do?

Listen to music. I tracked down every CD, every MP3 I could find and combined this with vinyl. Listening to music was literally like homework and I would race home after work and listen to at least a few hours of music a day. After a music marathon (and operation credit card reduction) month, it was time to select various classics that basically every music owner should own (and especially own on vinyl for any DJ work). First two things that popped in my head, were Purple Rain by Prince and Thriller by Michael Jackson. Both albums influenced me earlier in life, were pivotal in my musical (and therefore perhaps life) decisions and have influenced even who I am today.

Thriller is literally an opus, a magnum, an epic, the Iliad and the Odysey of musical craftsmanship. The usage of Vincent Price, equal parts genius and creepy, the costuming, makeup, the entire production show on this was top of the line, completely began a new field (music videos) and set the bar so high, that few have even come close sense. This album has everything, Billy Jean, PYT, I could literally name every track and likely you know many of the words to most of these songs. This is truly the epitomy of what music can be, and should aspire to be. A great album, not a patchwork of songs, but a story, something that will draw any listener to the same place.

Be thrilled/awed/inspired/frightened again and get this album. Last note on this, I own this on mp3 (to listen to), on vinyl (I have a copy to spin/play) and I bought this picture disc to display on my wall. It is literally art.

Thanks
