About the Author

Mark Hall is a true storyteller and a teacher with a heart for ministry. He is lead singer and songwriter for the Grammy Award-winning band Casting Crowns, whose first three albums have sold nearly four million copies. He has been in ministry nearly twenty years and has served at Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia, for the last eight years. Mark admits he’d be overwhelmed by life’s demands were it not for his wife of nineteen years, Melanie, who also serves as Casting Crowns’ road manager. Even on tour, Mark and Melanie homeschool their four children: John Michael, Reagan, Zoe, and Hope.

Instead of just surviving throughout life you can thrive by developing a deeper relationship in Christ, writes Mark Hall in his latest book, Thrive. Using examples from his many years working in youth ministry he writes how spending time reading God’s word and in prayer can result in a much more fulfilling life, than practicing a religion. The illustration of an old oak tree in Alabama is used to show how we need to develop a strong root system in order to withstand the attacks and diversions of the world, so that we can reach out to a lost world, as branches of a tree.

Mark writes of his own struggles with dyslexia and his learning disability throughout his life, and how he was able to overcome these obstacles to become a powerful force in his ministry, leading thousands of youth to Christ. In addition to his own life, the book draws upon scripture to illustrate the need to grow deeper in our knowledge and understanding of God in order to grow stronger in the faith. I’d recommend this book to every Christian wanting to Thrive.

Thrive is a very engaging read that will encourage you to be a little bolder in your faith, to dig those roots a little deeper and to try reaching out and sharing your faith not just with total strangers, but also your friends and family and anyone else with whom you have the opportunity to share. In several chapters Hall tells about the “Mighty Men” a group of his youth who became very outspoken in their high school and shared their faith with hundreds of their classmates. Stories like theirs will get you thinking about what you can do to be more outspoken about your faith.

If you’re looking for a good read that will help you take a look at your faith and encourage growth, then I highly recommend reading Thrive – especially if you also happen to be a Casting Crowns fan. This would also be a great book for a small group or a Sunday school class to build a Bible study around. There are a lot of chapters within the book that would offer great jumping off points for group discussions.

I must admit: I did not expect to like this book. I think part of me is a little cautious when reading books written by well-known musicians. Mark Hall, the leader singer of Casting Crowns, released the book, Thrive: Digging Deep, Reaching Out. It is an honest, hopeful, sometimes humorous message full of takeaways for everyone.

In Thrive, Hall draws on his own experience as a follower of Jesus and a youth pastor. He shows how to take the next step in faith. The overall theme of the book is, as Hall sums up: “You can do more than just survive your life, you can thrive!”

Fortunately, this book is more than a cutesy rhyming catchphrase. Hall is able to blend his life experiences with the truth of the Gospel of Christ. He is a youth pastor and musician, and he shares his experiences with dyslexia and insecurities. He is the first to point out he is not perfect, but he has willingly shared what he has learned about how important it is to be grounded in truth and available to let God use you.

“God didn’t put you and me here just so we can survive through hard times. He put us here to thrive, to dig deep and reach out,” explains Hall. He uses tree and roots imagery to show how important it is to be rooted in faith. The book is divided into two parts: digging deep and reaching out. It all comes back to the central idea that if you are grounded, you are then able to reach out.

In part one, “Digging Deep,” Hall explores some basic things we need to learn (or perhaps relearn) about being in a relationship with God. In part two, “Reaching Out,” he explores the response side. It moves behind the need to be rooted by asking: we are rooted in Christ, now what? When God changes our thinking, we see things in light of how Christ might see people and circumstances.

My favorite band is the band Casting Crowns. The lead singer is a man named Mark Hall and when I saw that he wrote a book, I picked up a copy to read. His book is called "Thrive: Digging deep and reaching out."
This book was the perfect book to me. As a pastor and follower of Jesus Christ I am always on the lookout for books that help me grow in Christ and to become a better "Evangelist." This book will help you grow in Christ and help you share Christ.
Jesus said that we are to love God and love others. This book is a great resource for you in those two areas.
My favorite chapter was chapter 6: but God. This chapter helped us through the book of Ephesians and helps us see God's responsibility with salvation and our response to it. We are all sinners...but God is so rich in mercy.
I recommend this book to all who want to grow in Christ and to learn how to reach out. Pick up a copy on amazon right now!!!
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review from BookLook Bloggers review program...Thanks for the copy!
