My 5 Star Mistake,
By Ryan Matthews "montvil" (Clifton, NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thriving Ivory (Audio CD)
I kind of just stumbled across this band when I was searching for something on iTunes and they just blew me away.
The product description compares Thriving Ivory's sound to that of Coldplay and U2. If I were to give you a synopsis of the band, I'd say they took elements from those two iconic rock groups and put them together. From Coldplay's slow, melodic piano to the cutting guitar riffs of U2, Thriving Ivory has practically innovated their own genre. They're a less "pop", occasionally faster paced version of Augustana in my opinion, with more poetic lyric writing. Thriving Ivory is probably one of my better finds in recent years. I highly recommend them for anybody interested in melodic rock. Songs Worth Noting: (try a few out on youtube) "Runaway" "Angels On The Moon" "Hey Lady" "Secret Life" "Unhappy" "Light Up Mississippi" *Updated 5/31/10 - The band's sophomore album is due out in 2010. A single from it has been released on iTunes called "Where We Belong." I recommend giving it a listen. In addition, one of my favorite Thriving Ivory songs is a non-album single titled "Our December." It's also available for purchase on iTunes. Album Grade: A+

I just fell in love with this CD. I don't usually watch MTV, but I was on vacation and heard it. I immediately had to buy it. Thanks a million. A++++++++++

Found a new favorite artist!,
This review is from: Thriving Ivory (Audio CD)
The main thing you need to know is that the ENTIRE album is very good. The lyrics and melodies are so good...you'll find yourself knowing these songs after just a few times through. While I liked "Angels On the Moon" I had not considered buying the album. But while listening to online samples of other CDs, Thriving Ivory was recommended as a similar artist, and I'm so glad for that. I listened to the 30 second samples and decided to get the CD. I requested many CDs by established artists as Christmas gifts, but I've listened to this one more than most of the others. Please support this artist and spread the word!

Music your soul's been craving without you knowing it,
This review is from: Thriving Ivory (Audio CD)
I'll start off by saying this: I'm a music fanatic. Music is like the blood in my veins - without it, I don't know how I'd get through the day. From when work starts at 8:00 AM until when it ends at 5:00 PM, I listen to music while going about my day. I've listened to thousands (literally) of albums in my life, and liked a lot of them. However, I've only ever loved a few of them, and this is one of those special few. I mention this so that you'll get an idea where I'm coming from when reading this review.
From the moment I heard the opening chords on the first track until the fadeout on the final one, I knew this was something special, and it's now near the top of my "most listened to" albums. A lot of people are trying their best to compare the sound of Thriving Ivory to that of other bands, which I think is somewhat of a shame. One of the truly great things about this album is that I haven't heard something like this in a long time. It's music that harkens back to the days when music was written to speak directly to that place deep inside us all that is just waiting for something to awaken it. The vocals, while "raspy," are soft, clean, and always easy to understand. The music is spot-on, and compliments those vocals as well as I can imagine. While the track "Angels on the Moon" is probably what this album is currently best-known for, I can say without hesitation that every single track here is of equal or greater quality than that single. If you're in search of some more of the mundane din that's so often played on the radio these days, you may want to look elsewhere; this album isn't probably for you. However, if you're willing to listen with more than just your ears, you're in for a 48-minute musical experience the likes of which hasn't been heard in a long time.

I love this album. I originally heard Angels on the Moon & went searching for the song. When I found the album I liked all the snippets I heard & bought it. It is now my favorite CD! Love every song & Clayton's voice is so unique & original. Like a breath of fresh air to the music out there right now, where everything sounds the same. Keep up the good work guys!

Best GIFT to HIT EARTH in 2008,

iTunes had the music video "Angels On the Moon" as the free video of the week. I decided to download it based on the fact that it was free. I never heard of the group, song, or seen the video. But for free, I cant complain. The point is I was blown away.
Thriving Ivory is the best thing to ever hit the music scene this year, along with OneRepublic. I immediately ran to my local music shop & picked up their debut release. I can't say enough about the album except that it's a masterpiece. I have no idea how this group skipped my radar because this album came out back in August. However, the lyrics to the songs are heartfelt and profoundingly inspiring. The lead singer, Clayton, has a very interesting voice and sets you at an amazing mood when you hear the album. When you hear their debut single "Angels on the Moon" you will immediately be blown away by the words and the way Clayton sings the song. Everyone can relate to this song. I am sure deep down inside everyone feels a little pain from time to time, so they know if there alive or not. Put the CD in, relax, and set yourself on a trip to total bliss. An inspirational album on ever level. Nearly every track on here is a winner.

This album is excellent! Usually, there are one or two songs on an album that aren't that appealing, but I, personally, like each song on this album. Scott's lyrics never fail to show emotion, the melodies are beautiful, Clayton's voice is pure and unique, and the instruments work really well. I actually started off not liking Clayton's voice when I first saw him at a concert, but after a couple of songs, I got used to it and began to actually like it. I'm glad that I can't stop listening to the album now!
