Helps brokers become successful and investors make money,
By A Customer
This review is from: Thriving as a Broker in the 21st Century (Hardcover)
The book consists of interviews with some of America's best-know brokers. They go far in revealing incidents and secrets they acquired during their long experience. Tom Dorsey, himself no lesser expert, interviews them in a clever way. He compliments what they are saying and prompts them with cues that sometimes trigger more details than they may have wanted to give. Written for the broker the book is highly accessible to the average investor. The many real-life examples and useful practical advice will help new brokers succeed and investors make money. The issues range from the appropriate emotional disposition "the key to success for any broker is confidence" to the utility of technical analysis "the beauty of the Point and Figure method is there is no room for subjectivity." Dorsey's insights extend into the 21st century. He has a clear vision of what the new century (technology and the Internet) has in store for brokers and investors. Not to be overlooked are the book's two Appendices. The first one gives summary information on 350 web sites for brokers. The second presents the basics of the Point & Figure Charting technique, something that no ones is to better suited to speak about than Dorsey himself.

The Book re-opened my mind as to how great this business is.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Thriving as a Broker in the 21st Century (Hardcover)
All of the many people interviewed in the book do things a little differently, while all are successful. The book reminded me that you can not be all things to all people. Decide how you want to run your business, have fun and do it. Find clients who meet your parameters. While I am new to the point and figure method and the DW system, I realize now that, if I had used it, I could have prevented some disasters and saved some clients from the fundamental world. Using both technical and fundamental analyses together will benefit both you and your clients. Anyone serious about their career as a "stock broker" should read the book and learn a little something about technical analysis. Great book Tom thanks!!!!!!!

This review is from: Thriving as a Broker in the 21st Century (Hardcover)
For anyone in the business looking for a better way (there are SEVERAL illustrated, no doubt one will work for you); for anyone contemplating a career in the industry; or, for an individual investor looking for insight into the mind of the person handling your SERIOUS MONEY... this book is a MUST READ! Tom gives the reader invaluable descriptions of what it took several successful professionals YEARS to discover on their own. He does it with compassion and humor, which may be a result of his having been on the front lines himself. Anyone who has money in the stock market should read this book today. The "Web Sites For Brokers" listed in the book alone are worth the investment.

This review is from: Thriving as a Broker in the 21st Century (Hardcover)
In this book by Thomas Dorsey, he really separates the men from the boys by identifying those brokers that do and will bring value to the table in the next century. I found this book so interesting, I've read a couple of the chapters two or three times as I'm always interested in shortening my learning curve in the business. Thanks, Tom Dorsey!!

Stock market professional and individual investors alike will learn how to thrive and prosper in the next century by spending a few hours reading this fine book. Tom Dorsey has tremendous enthusiasm for the stock market and for educating individual investors in order for them to be more successful in their stock market investments. His enthusiasm and many years of experience come through in every interview in the book. For stock market professionals it is a must-read to get a wake up call for the way the profession is moving at light speed. For individual investors it is a must-read to gain insight into what information and services are available to you in today's environment. And to gain more confidence in your stock market investing.

Tom shows how to prevail in a changing investment world,
By A Customer
This review is from: Thriving as a Broker in the 21st Century (Hardcover)
This book is a masterpiece. At least one hundred thousand brokers in the US, not to mention the investment industry abroad are in a fierce struggle for survival. Threatened by the web, discounts and what else might come up in the near future an entire industry jitters. Here is a man, who spend almost all his professional life in the financial business is very successful and does not hesitate to share with us some shortcomings in a humorous way. Being 25 years in international finance I saw myself in this book time and again. This book is for both international and domestic brokers as well. We all had some of the ideas how to run the business presented to us by Tom and his interview counterparts. But these professionals show us, what we can do, when we really pursue good ideas. It raises hope for the future. This is the best part of the book: " Guys, it's not over yet! " is the message. Take care of your customer; show him your specific expertise, treat him well, tailor his investments and he will be happy to give you his business. The book is fun to read, very easy to assimilate. You as an investor get an insight, you as a professional read it on the weekend, because you will take off on Monday morning!
