Product Description

Supercar builder and driver Jerry Staute and friends travel a thousand miles to Texas in search of construction work, only to find things much tougher there than any of them had expected.

'Deep in the Throat of Texas' has it all, from hitting rock-bottom with homelessness, and living on the run from police, to clawing back up to a normal life again.

Staute finds himself at various points fighting with everyone from his friends to the law. In fact, one of Staute's most unforgettable altercations ever with the police happens in Texas.

But a high speed duel with a rogue lawman turns out to be merely one of many tests the Lone Star state has in store for the young Tennessean, as Staute next learns firsthand about the affinity tornadoes have for Texas, with his own brutal encounter.

Texas of course saves both its best and worst for the grand finale, in the form of a woman; a woman with whom Staute will win (and lose) more than he ever thought possible.

'Deep in the Throat of Texas' is the third book in The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs series, which details the adventures of Jerry Staute and his home-built Ford Mustang supercar.

The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs were inspired by actual people and events from the author's personal life.

This review is from: Deep in the Throat of Texas (The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs) (Kindle Edition)
I was a bit disappointed at the gap between where the last book left off and where this one started (still in high school to after 1st year in college), but that shows how interested I've become in following Jerry Staute's misadventures.

Jerry and best friend Steve decide to find jobs in Texas for the summer break, and what a regrettable choice that turns out to be. This was a bit harder reading for me than the previous installments. Between the disastrous experiences with girls, harassment from John Law, impoverished living conditions and automotive headaches in different varieties, it just dredged up too many memories I'd rather forget.

Yet there are bright spots. Jerry finds true love in this book. And some of the stunts he successfully pulls off with his Mustang are just incredible. In my younger days I got my musclecar to do some things it probably shouldn't have been able to, but nothing approaching the level of derring-do this kid pulled off.

The writing style is consistent with the 1st 2 books. I'm off to the next one!

Henry Brown is the author of Barbarian Nation: The Delayed Blitz(Krieg), as well as the military thriller Hell and Gone. He is the columns editor at New Pulp Fiction, and does some blogging of his own at the Two-Fisted Blogger.
