5.0 out of 5 stars INSPIRING, April 11, 2000
This review is from: Through Being Cool (Audio CD)
Saves the Day is by far the best band I have heard in a long time. I agree with most reviews - it is heartfelt and poetic. One person mentioned it not being catchy or meoldic. I couldn't disagree more. Through Being Cool is both a catchy and melodic album, totally heartfelt and poetic. Amazing lyrics and exceptional vocals are driven by extremely talented musicians who really KNOW their instruments. Chris Conley displays knowledge beyond his years. His lyrics have both made me laugh and choked me up. Over the last five months, the CD has rarely left my stereo, and even then, only for roadtrips.

If you like the Get Up Kids, face to face, with a little Down By Law, you will LOVE Saves the Day. This album is FANTASTIC. I recommend it without reservation.

5.0 out of 5 stars saves the day rocks, May 28, 2001

This review is from: Through Being Cool (Audio CD)
i had heard 1 saves the day song before i bought this cd, "holly hox, forget me nots" off a vagrant sampler and wasn't impressed. but i was looking for a new cd and when i came across this one w/ the guys on the cover i thought i'd give it a shot. BEST thing i've ever done for myself musically. the first thing i thought was that chris sounded a little like Jordan from NFG but after a few listens he evolved into his own person. he just has the most awesome emo voice. and his lyrics aren't dumb, you can actually listen to them and think, wow, that really is beautiful, and they actually have meaning. so if you are looking for something original or just want something new DO pick up this cd, you will NOT regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Roots of carbon copys, July 28, 2004
This review is from: Through Being Cool (Audio CD)
This album is a true representation of what the word "emo" and "punk" should mean. Those words are consistently thrown around to any band whose singer/songwriter has been dumped once or twice by his girlfriend. To me pissing and moaning doesn't exactly turn into melodic gold. In a genre filled with a new band each week sounding like the band you just heard last week these guys and a few others make it worth listening to. I bought this album a few years ago after buying "Stay What You Are". I couldn't imagine a better album, but I was treated to a fury of 35 minutes of some of the best music I had ever listened to. The riffs aren't wholly original but work just the same. The lyrics and the way Chris sings them are what makes this album a treat. Lyrics such as "Let me take this awkward saw/ run it against your thighs/ cut some flesh away, I'll carry this piece of you with me" had me floored. For anyone who likes the emo genre and wants to hear a band that doesn't sound like all the rest, mostly because most try to sound like them. Give this album a try and stop wasting your time on bands that don't put the effort in you deserve.
