"I can't think of anyone who has been more effective in introducing so many people to a biblical worldview. He represents a touchstone of authentic biblical scholarship that, in my opinion, has scarcely been paralleled since the days of the 16th century European Reformers."-Billy Graham in Time magazine John Stott is without question one of the most beloved and significant pastors and authors of the last fifty years. Named by Time magazine in 2005 as one of the world's 100 most influential people and as one of the 25 most influential evangelicals in America, Stott commands a huge following that defies his quiet demeanor. Now, in Through the Bible, Through the Year, Stott offers original, never-before-published reflections on the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. These daily readings take you through the Scriptures with an emphasis on both the "big picture" of the story of God and the nature of God as Trinity. Christians seeking a stronger, holistic grasp on the Bible will treasure this work that overflows with wisdom gleaned from a life of study and reflection by an internationally beloved pastor and scholar. John Stott is an internationally acclaimed preacher and scholar. He is the author of many works, including Basic Christianity and What Christ Thinks of the Church. He lives in London, England. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This book is not exactly what I thought it would be--it is better. I was expecting a Bible reading plan that began on the first day of January with Genesis 1:1 and would conclude on New Years Eve with Revelation 22:21. While providing reflections and devotions for each day of the year, this book provides a refreshing seasonal reading plan. From September until Christmas this book takes the reader on a journey through the Old Testament from the story of creation until the coming of Jesus the promised messiah. From January through April the reader re-discovers the life of Christ through reading and reflecting upon the Gospels. In the months of May through August the reader re-lives the exciting and challenging history of the first Christ-followers as documented in the book of Acts and then continues to read through the rest of the New Testament. This book is written in such an accommodating manner that you can begin reading it at any time during the year (not just in the month of September). Just look up the appropriate day of the year in the book (remember the week numbers in the book begin with the first week in September as Week 1) and begin reading. I have recommended this book to all of my family and friends who visit my website at andrewduarte.com and I recommend it to you as well. You will find yourself drawn closer to God, experiencing a greater understanding of His Word, and encouraged in the faith as you read this book.

This is a daily (52 week) reflection on the bible from Genesis to Revelation. There are three parts to the book, each dealing with a particular theme during the Christian year. The first part of the book is from Creation to Christ which covers the months of September through December. The second part of the book is from Christmas to Pentecost which covers the months of January to April. Finally, there is Pentecost to the Parousia which covers the months of May to August.

The daily devotions were not the best. They were either too opinionated, too much non-biblical references, or simply no detailed enough to explain the passage of Scripture. I also did not agree with all of the authors theology, especially with his writings about the book of Revelation. The author seems to have a more symbolic view of Scripture rather than a literal view for many passages.

Therefore, I do not recommend this book. There are other daily devotionals that will get your through the bible in a year.

John Stott takes you through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation with a concise review of the revelation of God through His Word and the prophecy of the coming Messiah through the entire Old Testament and the fulfillment of the prophecy through His incarnation, life of teaching and healing ministries, His crucifixion, resurrection, ascension and promised return as depicted in Revelation.

Can't find a better study for those seeking to understand the Bible and God's plan for forgiveness of sin, the Spirit-filled life and blessed hope through Him for eternal life.

As a school administrator, I wanted a daily devotional that would challenge me to go deep in my understanding and appreciation of God's Word and this book did not disappoint. Dr. Stott goes a great job of walking his audience through the nuances of the Scriptures. He teaches expositionally (verse by verse), which is helpful to grasp an overall view and understanding of the Scriptures. As a new bible teacher, I am currently using this book as a template for my student's daily journal assisgnments. Great buy at a Great price!

Stott has the gift of clear and concise prose as he explains the background of the section of scripture and supplements it with additional information from outside the Bible. For example he gives us understanding of the political and social atmosphere outside of Jewish culture.

I would recommend this for anyone interested in getting a scholarly yet readable understanding of the themes and directions of the entire Old and New Testament.

This is the best succinct commentary of bible verses I have used. It has opened up a range of thoughts to be used in practical ways
for personal growth and to pass on to others. It is being used for group bible study and has encouraged us all to think biblically and
discipline ourselves to daily reading of the scriptures. John Stott is, as always, a wonderful teacher.
