4.0 out of 5 stars It Can't Get Better, April 20, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Through Endangered Eyes: A Poetic Journey into the Wild (Hardcover)
I can't begin to say how great this book is for any child between five years and nine. There is no better way to introduce these youngsters to the endangered part of our world.

I found myself as unable to put this book down as any adult mystery or Michael Creighton book. Go for it. Let your child know what they will miss if these wonderful animals disapear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to introduce kids to conservation, February 5, 2009

This review is from: Through Endangered Eyes: A Poetic Journey into the Wild (Hardcover)
This is a beautifully crafted book. The artwork is spectacular and the poems are touching. My kids age 3 and 7 both love this book and read it over and over again. We have had many meaningful discussions about conservation and how we can help animals and the planet as a whole.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who cares about animals and the fate of our planet.

This book is beautiful!

Rachel uses her detailed artwork of dot painting as a medium to attract the kids to individual animals that are endangered. Then engages them even more with the simple poetry. Simple but engaging.

If you or your kids are taken in by a specific animal then you just flip to the back of the book for more. I tell ya this little book is a charm! The back of it is packed full with resources. Each animal has more specific information as well as more general resources for all endangered animals. These resources help you find ways we can make a difference in our own homes, organizations involved with endangered animals and even some lesson plans for elementary kids.

So, in ONE book you get art, language arts and science. My children are ages 3,4,6,& 8 and all of them love it. It is even the right size for little hands to hold and enjoy.

I hope you purchase this book and find it as enjoyable and rewarding as our family is. It is a keeper! Just as the author's dots come together for a beautiful picture our small acts come together to make a difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST-HAVE Book for Children, March 3, 2009

Th art-illustration is just amazing. The message is thoughtful, memorable and perfectly targeted to young readers, parents and grandparents. All my grandchildren now have a copy and love it. I recommend this book highly and hope there is a sequel as there are so many endangered species in our fragile world. There are even teacher aids in the back of the book! What a unique way to raise the level of consciousness not only in the US, but everywhere!

Few books intended for a young reader (or listener) have so much beauty within them as to give the reader (or parent) such pleasure as Ms. Dillon's collection of art rendered to represent endangered creatures in several parts of the world. This an art book anyone will cherish in their library. Then there is the gentle simplicity of each poem, also by Ms. Dillon; each does not seek pity for the animal but a noting of something very distinctly unique about each animal portrayed, thus showing how we all matter and should be protected. Last but not the least, the reference materials, compiled by Ms. Dillon, literally and briefly explain the subtle point within each poem. Through Endangered Eyes is one of those books destined to receive nominations for "best" of some genre. I look forward to her next volume.

What an amazing book. If you love animals, care about the environment and have children this book is for you! The illustrations, which are paintings done by the author are beautiful. The rhyming text is fun and simple enough for children to read. The book supplies details about the endangered animals in the back, while the page text teases the mind and curiosity. This book is great for facilitating conversation between parent and child on a timely subject. It would make a great gift.
