Book Description

January 8, 2013 Under the Never Sky

It's been months since Aria learned of her mother's death.

Months since Perry became Blood Lord of the Tides, and months since Aria last saw him.

Now Aria and Perry are about to be reunited. It's a moment they've been longing for with countless expectations. And it's a moment that lives up to all of them. At least, at fi rst. Then it slips away. The Tides don't take kindly to former Dwellers like Aria. And the tribe is swirling out of Perry's control. With the Aether storms worsening every day, the only remaining hope for peace and safety is the Still Blue. But does this haven truly exist?

Threatened by false friends and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night? In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and sci-fi elements to create a captivating adventure—and a love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.

A Q&A with Veronica Rossi and Tahereh Mafi

Veronica interviews Tahereh

VR: Why are you so awesome and will you consider moving closer to where I live so I can see you all the time?

TM: Um I love you. Please come live in my house.

VR: What was the most surprising part of writing Unravel Me?

TM: The part where it was hard as hell.

VR: So many of your fans, myself included, are captivated by Warner. Can you tell us what intrigues you about this character?

TM: I could! But I can’t. Because spoilers! But AHHHHH I have so many feeeeeelings!

VR: I’m borrowing one of your questions to me . . . can you describe Unravel Me in one word?

TM: Sexy.

VR: What are some of your thoughts as the series approaches a conclusion? Are you looking forward to working on other projects? Nostalgic about the whole experience?

TM: I’m super excited to work on something new. Anxious, even. But I love these kids and their stories. I can crack open a book and visit them whenever I like. That’s a nice feeling.

Tahereh interviews Veronica

TM: If you could use one word to describe Through the Ever Night, what would it be?

VR: Intense!

TM: What do you think is the hardest part of writing a sequel?

VR: For me, it was balancing what is right for the story with the expectations of fans. There are a few things that happen in THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT that needed to happen—they were organic to the story—but I worried about how fans would react. Ultimately, of course, I wrote what felt true to the characters and to the world. I’m so happy to see how fans are responding to the book. They’re loving everything I agonized over!

TM: Who is your favorite character in Through the Ever Night? Why?

VR: You are a cruel, cruel friend to ask me this! Okay. If we remove the central characters and focus on characters who are NEW to the series in this middle book, then my answer would be Sable. He’s mentioned in Under the Never Sky, but we meet him in Through the Ever Night. He’s mercurial, power-hungry and very smart, which makes him tons of fun to write!

TM: What do you think will shock readers the most about this second installment?

VR: I can’t share anything specific without spoiling the fun, but there are a few points in the book that I believe are truly surprising. This is a world in decline. These are societies grasping for their survival. Of course, not everything goes as planned, or as the characters hope.

TM: Are you excited or are you nervous for readers to get their hands on Into the Still Blue (the third and final book!)? Do you think they'll be okay with what you have in store for your characters?

VR: Excited, definitely! I’m very proud of the last book, and I can’t wait for fans to read it! And while some of what happens in the novel might make fans white-knuckled as they read, I think they will accept that what happens is all meant to happen, and ultimately be thoroughly satisfied with the book and trilogy as a whole.

Through the Ever Night starts off with the reunion of Aria and Perry but things don't go exactly as expected. The tides aren't welcoming of Aria and the search for Still Blue is still on.

One thing I did not expect was the time Aria and Perry spent apart in this novel.I wanted them to remain together and was very disappointed when they didn't but Veronica Rossi is a great storyteller and I wasn't very heartbroken over it. Both Aria and Perry need to deal with specific and very different issues and they can't deal with them together. They both have their own mission.

The author threw quite a lot of curve balls that had me near depression (*cough* Kirra *cough *) but by the end of the novel I realized that this is what makes this series stand out. You never know what's going to happen next and even though it seems predictable it isn't .

Usually the second book in the series seems pointless but not this book. It's written very well and it's almost impossible to put down.

The characters show tremendous growth and experience epiphanies . I loved returning to the world of some of my favorite characters and was very sad to bid them adieu at the end of this novel. Roar and Perry are some of the best male protagonists in the fictional world. I wasn't a huge fan of Aria in Under the Never Sky but I admire her now. Some of the new characters are very remarkable as well.I think I need to state that the book might be ending on a cliffhanger but it's a very satisfying ending. We also figure out how Cinder fits into the story.

Overall, this book is a great addition to the series .I can't praise the writing style and the characters enough. Under The Never Sky might have reeled me in but this book got me hooked to the series. I will definitely be getting my hands on the next book in the series!

QUOTES I HEART( FROM E-ARC could be changed!)

Favorite Roar line~
"Aria if I was being intimate with you, trust me, you'd know"

"We were on the beach the three of us.And you know how luster is it sweeps you up.Anyways Perry got a little carried away.He decided to strip down to nothing and go for a swim. This was right in the middle of the day,by the way"
Aria smiled"He did not."
"He did. While he was out whooping in the waves,Liv took his clothes and decided it was a good time to get all the girls in the tribe to come down to the beach.
Aria laughed "Roar she's worse than you."
"You mean better".
"I'm scared to see you two together. So what did Perry do?"
"He swam down the coast and we didn't see him till the following morning." Roar smiled.
"He told us he snuck into the compound during the night wearing seaweed ."
"You mean he wore a .... seaweed skirt?

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait!!! January 9, 2013
Format:Hardcover
Do you want to know what my favorite thing is about this book (besides the cover)? The relationships. Not just the relationship between Aria and Perry but like the relationship between Perry and the Six, Aria and Roar, Cinder and Willow, Perry and Reef, Perry and Roar and really, I could keep going. There are so many strong relationships throughout this book and it just makes my heart hurt.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book, Under the Never Sky and I really enjoyed that book. Through the Ever Night I just could not put down. If you're anything like me and happen to fall for the secondary characters a lot than you'll absolutely fall head over heels in love with Roar. I am obsessed with him, like fan girling obsessed. You all can fight over Perry but step aside if you're interested in Roar, he's so mine! ;) Now don't go bashing me because I'm not fighting for Perry because I do love him, a lot but he's just not my cup of tea. He is perfect for Aria and they're going to make beautiful, strong, intelligent, perfect little babies one day.

I love Perry and Roar's relationship. They are the closest of friends; so in close, in fact that they are like brothers. To see guys like and respect each other as much as these two do, is heartwarming. They know each other better than any two people should and they know what they're thinking or what they're going to do next. You know what relationship I loved even more than this one, though? Roar and Aria. I do believe these two have the strongest relationship two can have of the opposite sex without making it more than friendship. They care about each other deeply (on a total platonic level), have mutual respect for the other and want to nothing more than keep the other safe. We get to see a lot of one on one time with Aria and Roar throughout this book and it put a big ole smile on my face.

Meanwhile, Perry had a lot of trouble to deal with on his own during Aria & Roar's absence, including a female moving in on him. A beautiful female, at that. Not to mention, as Blood Lord, his people not trusting him or respecting him as they should.

I am having so much trouble putting how much I loved this book in to words. (Seriously, I've been attempting to write this review for a month now) There's so much more of everything from the first book put in to this book. There's so many journeys these characters take and so much heartbreaking things that happen. Of course, heartbreak is to be expected in any series but... *sigh* The third book is going to be epic. Absolutely epic and I cannot wait for this journey to continue. I am ready.

If you loved the first book, I have no doubts that you'll fall even harder after finishing this book. If you haven't read Under the Never Sky then I do believe you have some reading to do, my friend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling! January 8, 2013
By Henry

5 hours after my purchase, I am in awe. I did not willingly pause, and was enthralled for the entirety of the book. Tension and emotion wreak havoc on me as I read this. In a story packed with action in a world that seems dead set against them, Aria and Peregrine struggle to be together, apart and everywhere in between - and every second is perfection.
