4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars....GREAT album!
This is one of the best debut albums I've heard by a soloartist since Jay-Z's debut "Reasonable Doubt" back in'96. Cap.1 comes RAW from beginning to end. He can twist his tongue as fast as Twista at times, but he also comes with a nice slower-pace once in a while. The beats on this album are BANGIN as well, and fit nicely with Cap's flow. Almost every track on...

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent cd to add to your rap collection
This is a pretty good cd from the up and coming artist Cap.One. It features tracks with Canibus, Twista and other guest artists as well. I recommend that you pick up this cd due to the awesome single "They Luv Dat" with Nokio of the R&B group Dru Hill.

Almost every track on here is dope. Thug In Your Life, They Luv Dat, Get Up, Ride & Smoke, and Pure Pressure are a few of the standouts. Chi-Town's Finest is a nice track combining Twista, Rawshawnna, & Cap spittin flames over an ill beat. But easily the standout track (and my personal summer anthem) is Pop Dem Collas. This track has it all: sick beat, great flows, and a dope hook courtesy of Dwayne Wiggins. I can't even begin to describe how much I love that. There are VERY few weak tracks on here, and even the weaker tracks would be above average on any other album. Overall, this is an album that you'll bump all summer...no, all YEAR long. GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tight Album, June 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Through the Eyes of a Don (Audio CD)
This album resembles some of Twista's work and he is featured in a few tracks. Cap 1 can flow very well and I like the beats he drops. This album will give you stuff you've never heard before.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cap 1 The Thug, May 7, 2001

When I first saw the video "They Luv Dat" and heard him rap I Flicked the channel because I thought he was Dull. But then when I flicked back he started rapping like another Chi-town rapper, Twista. I was like "... who is this cat." Then I heard his CD from my homeboy, I was amazed again. This guy could rap fast or slow and I understood everthing he said. The CD is on fire, there are 18 tracks, only two songs I don't like. #7 and #10. My most favorite tracks are #5, #13, #14, #15, #17. The Title of his Album I have to disagree It should be called Through the eyes of a Thug cause he talk about things that a thug would do I don't beleive A Don would live a thuggish life, As to what Cap1 talks about in the Album, he's no Don. Other than that, he's a dope MC with hard-hitting delivery and Madd flow.

My man put it down on dis joint, source wasn't lien when they said my man had skill. Every track can play thru, I ain't lien. Truthfully I never take time to write reviews for anyone, no matter how much a play they cd but I gotta show support for cap. So all the true non bias hip hop heads that like to listen to all types of music whether its from NY, Cally, New Jerz, or were ever cop this, the skill is there. ( Pick up Nelly also)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hottest Album in a long time, June 22, 2001

I'm sure most of you heard about Cap One in the same way that i did, from reading about him as a rising star in the Source. So i thought i'd go and see whut he wuz like. And from first listen, i wuz hooked. Twista is in my eyes the hottest emcee out at the moment, and Cap has the typical Chi speed rapping flow. But i don't wanna compare him to Twista. Cos his sound is very different. This has a more r'n'b flavour and Cap keeps his lyrics deciphable even when rapping his quickest. I think this will make it please hip hop heads everywhere more so than other Chi-Town artists Twista makes an appearance on possibly the albums hottest track alongside Rashawnna, on Chi-Towns Finest. I loved the beat on this track, produced by D-Moet who duz a brilliant job producin a host of other of the album's tracks. The next stand out cut is Thug In Your Life. The production and chorus comes from Jazzy-Pha. The tracks opens with a sort of classical compostion, which made a refreshing change to find actual instruments being played on a hip-hop track. Cap's flow go so well with the instruments on Jazzy-Pha's smooth vocals. The lead off single They Luv Dat is another stand out cut on which Nokio of Dru Hill provides his own rap. The album stays consistlently tight throughout, and is without a doubt my album of the year so far! At No exaggeration, this is a must-have for all hip hop heads everywhere

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Fast Flowin CD Around, March 9, 2001
By
This review is from: Through the Eyes of a Don (Audio CD)
There have been many rap cds wit fast flowing people. For the most part they are good, but there is one problem. U usually can't listen through the whole cd because there are many bad cuts. But Cap One's cd is the sickest cd round today. There is not a single bad cut on the cd. It is one of my top 10 cds. Its a must have.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chicago Player With Potential Fails to Pack a Punch, November 15, 2000
By
Chris G (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Through the Eyes of a Don (Audio CD)
After following Cap.Ones trials and tribulations with The Source magazine, I thought I'd definetely give his album a shot when it dropped. However, Cap's record only was able to once again remind me why I don't purchase rap albums at the art form's current state, or frame of mind if you will. Being from the Chicago area, I recognized his initial flavor on track one, and my head quickly began the nod. Unfortunately, he quickly loses direction and falls into a gangland of ho's, hard head's, and Henessey, without living up to his front of being a dope, fresh lyricist outta the Windy City of Chi. I can understand the man is just trying to let us all know where he comes from, and maybe he doesn't have the brain power to kick verses about anything else. But since I cracked the seal, there's no turning back. I'm stuck with this one, folks. Listen to my experience, and do not purchase this album. If you want decent lyrics outta Chicago, pick up NO ID's joint. Or if you're fiending for some of that ol' gangsta' gangsta', try Psycho Drama or Twista. Then will you be truly seeing thru the eyes of a Don. Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cap. 1 is Here To Stay, October 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Through the Eyes of a Don (Audio CD)
I had never heard of Cap. 1 until I heard the album at a friend's house. I went out and bought it as soon as I left. This is the tightest Chi-town album in a while. Cap. flows fast, but also has that lazy flow on lock. Cap. is on his way to the top and I've got a feeling he's gonna be there for a long time. He also has guests like Twista, Profyle, and Jazzy Pha on the album. If you like tight beats and even tighter lyrics go out and grab this album.
