This review is from: Through The Faerie Glass: A Look at the Realm of Unseen and Enchanted Beings (Paperback)
This compelling, extremely well researched, highly readable book explores the nature of fairies by drawing on mythology, literature, poetry, music and history as it's sources. Mr. Klein presents us with a purer view of fairy nature as they were know prior to their trivialization by the Victorian age.
Often dangerous and sometimes dark, the Good Folk are always true to their nature. Mr. Klein the veil between our world and the fairy realm to give us a good long glimpse at the transformational power of these magical beings from both a psychological and spiritual perspective. Fairy music, sexuality, prophecy and the role of fairies in modern society are all systematically investigated and presented with Mr. Klein's trademark charm and humour. This book is a must read for anyone working with fairies or elementals. Offers advice on protection and insights into enlisting aid from the fairy realm. I doubt you will be able to find such insights and wealth of knowledge in any other single book on fairies.

A tongue in cheek look at the darker side of fairies,
By
This review is from: Through The Faerie Glass: A Look at the Realm of Unseen and Enchanted Beings (Paperback)
This book reads like a conversation with Kenny. Its funny, witty and informative. Kenny takes many well known (and quite a few lesser known) folk tales and tradition songs and analyses them in the light of forgotten history, teaching stories, and fairies as a race of real beings.
The book gives you a sense of real fairy belief, not the "fluffified" fairies that come from the victorian era and abound in modern pagan circles. I did not find Kenny insulting in the least. He is just letting us in on the joke. And his witing style make the whole book much easier to digest. I strongly recommend this book to pagans and christians alike. Whether you just want to read a few good yarns, or want an alternative (and more historically accurate) portrait of fairies.

Through The Faerie Glass,
This review is from: Through The Faerie Glass: A Look at the Realm of Unseen and Enchanted Beings (Paperback)
I personally loved this book. I found it highly informative and I think it is perfect for any and all readers of any and all beliefs. As soon as I finished the book I immediately recommended to all of my friends and family and those who didn't read it, I proceeded to tell them everything that happened in it. I have to admit I was quite annoying about it for a bit.
A high majority of writers in modern times feel the need to fluff up their books with advanced language that is boring to read and equally hard to understand. I find this in a lot of alternative religion books. I think it is because they feel that they are not taken seriously if they do not present their material intellectually, however, Kenny had highly informative information in an easy to read way that helped me to better understand the Fae and also kept me interested enough to keep reading. I really enjoyed the way Kenny wrote and I felt like he was there telling me the stories rather than I just reading them. I found his information highly accurate and informative. Throughout this book I laughed, cried, cringed, and even checked to see if my sister was a changeling, (sadly she was not). So I hope this review helps and I Highly encourage everyone to give this book a shot.

Not what I thought but still okay,

I read Field Guide to the Little People before this particular book on faeries so when I picked this one up, I thought it was going to be kind of along the same lines: pretty straight forward of the whys and hows of faeries. Actually they're more like a collection of essays. Not in and of itself bad but if it's not really your learning style, or you're looking for something a little simpler to get into, this might not be your bag.In all honesty, I had some trouble getting into this book. I wouldn't say it's overwrought but I just found my mind wandering at far too many parts of the book. Yes, the lore is fascinating and some of the tales are pretty cool but overall, I would have liked something a little more concise than such a thorough analysis of Faerie. I wasn't expecting it. There were parts that I ravaged through. For instance, I found it absolutely amazing how closely faerie lore and the Old Testament mirror each other and how, according to the Old Testament, there were multiple gods that created the world, not just one. But it was that one that decided to make his own world, Eden, that can likely mirror what we know of Faerie. Just those parallels Klein drew I thought were immensely fascinating. But the rest of it, I think you really need to be in a particular mindset to read through this book. Mainly, you need to be ready to sit through lectures about theories and deep analysis of old writings. At times I felt like I was reading one of my English texts (not actually your standard text but a lot of them were filled with essays that read like this book) so I thought it was a little off-putting. I can't really use this book as reference for any of my work simply because it's not too easy to reference anything. I much prefer something along the lines of an encyclopedia where information is easily obtained. Here I'd have to wade through too much information to find what I was looking for. What information I gathered from it has proven pretty useful and believe me, it offers a lot of worthwhile information, but I wasn't thrilled with the execution. If you're looking for what is rightly a collection of essays on the theories and analyses of the faerie world, you'll want to read this book just to develop your knowledge of the Fair Kind. But if you're looking for something for, say, writing your own work and need something to reference, I'd recommend Field Guide to the Little People. I won't say don't read this book. In fact, I think anyone that's looking to write about faeries, or just learn more about then in general, should read this book and take notes because it offers some insightful information. But I don't think a second reading is all that rendered.

This book is very through in looking at faerie folklore. It dives deep into some of the classic fairy tales to discover their true roots and digs up a lot about where various myths come from. I love this book, and I love the various stories that are included that pre-date the Brothers Grimm.

Kenny Klein's new book, "Through the Faerie Glass: A Look at the Realm of Unseen and Enchanted Beings" is wonderful! But let me warn you...
If you are the type who believes that fairies are all sweetness and light, precious little miniature people who sing on the breeze, sit on flowers and long to have human companions, you will be disappointed. Kenny tells it like it is! He tells you the truth about the fay, and it's not always nice. The book displays a goodly amount of knowledge and research, and you will come away from it a wiser person. (The truth will always make you wiser.) He gives you legends and lyrics, folklore and fact, myths and mysteries, to enable you to form your own opinions of the stories he presents to you. You'll hear of fairy tales you may never had known before, but which seem familiar in an odd way. I highly recommend this book to any fairy-lover (and I use that phrase with caution). Pack up your courage, and wander "Through the Faerie Glass"!

Well writen. Excellent examples. Uses the Fey of legends-not the watered down, everything sparkles, all is good, B.S. Disney type modren Fey, so typically found now days. If you want to know what real Fey are like or just really want to know about the Fey-this is the book to read. I had some questions and comments after reading this book so I emailed the author, much to my surprise he emailed me back in a timely and personal manner. Nancy Luettia Baxter-Metheny Swamp
