Through The Flesh To The Soul Indeed!...,
By Echosix (Montreal, QC, Can) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Through the Flesh to the Soul (Audio CD)
Truly wonderful that I never even knew they had even released another album. So after finding out, the thought of hearing it became an obsession. I've been an Invocator fan since Excursion Demise so to me, just the fact there was undiscovered music out there for me to hear made me feel like a kid on Christmas Morning. Just by the opening sound...the doomsday bell...the deep vibrations of the impending apocalypse I know is about to overwhelm, I knew this was going to be a truly wonderful experience to listen to. And it is. The building of the intro truly is like a beast awakening, The title track will leave you with your horns raised and pumping! "The Demon Still Feeds" cries out Jacob Hansen, and indeed it does. Which is a good thing if you're a fan of what Invocator does. The soloing on the entire album is worthy of gold star recognition. The mastering was extremely well done. There is a pure balance between all elements and yet, you can't help put remember the power of the drums, the crispness of the guitars, the melodies of Hansen's voice. The rhythms are well made and the beats "as punishing as an Invocator album!" (A classic saying for me to describe a chaotic but controlled situation) "On My Knees", one of my faves on this one so far is just...so powerful..The opening line of the first verse will leave you with goose bumps.. I actually had to loop the section from 00:30 to 01:16 to come to the understanding that: if there ever was one moment in metal music I would use to define what Metal means to me, it would be this loop right here! Then into the energized "Writhe in spit" with very obvious vocal refinement displayed by Hansen. Ahh life experience. Nothing equals the evolution of the soul. "Flick it" on is also a display of that evolution, and it's taking Invocator to a place they have rarely explored, which fits the whole "Flick your switch", The masterful soloing again, will leave you wanting more. So Come On! Flick it on people! "Infatuated I Am (speak To Me)": If invocator was a Tank, This would be it's theme song, because it "invokes" visions of a machine relentlessly moving forward and crushing it's way to forge it's own path, blowing away and tearing up everything along the excursion. Immediately followed by "There Is No Savior" which is almost a follow-up track, the mopping up scene, classic Invocator for sure. I will let you be the judge for yourselves about the 4 remaining tracks. To sum it up, again, bear in mind I am but a humble Invocator fan, This album was 7 years in the making, you can feel that there is much experience here that was accumulated and is now ours to absorb and enjoy. This album is a metal classic in my eyes and even though for me personally, it took another 4 years for me to realize it was even out there, The joy I felt when I heard this thing was and is indescribable. Jacob has posted on My Space that he is working on material that should eventually become a new album...I won't miss it like I did this one, that's for sure! Through The Flesh To The Soul is like, the others before it, an indispensable Invocator album and should be an addition to any metal fans collection. Jacob, 2010 approaches!
