Fantastic! in all meanings of the word!,
By Zorknot (Dickson, TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Through the Ice (Library Binding)
It's a good book to begin with. It has an original storyline and an ending with a statement on morals that I personally believe or at least, would like to believe. Before I read Through the Ice I had read many other Peirs Anthony novels but was hesitant to read a collaboration. When I read it I was pleasantly suprised at the freshness of the writing. I'm dying to reveal the other reason why I liked this book, but I feel it would ruin it for others. Suffice to say I think that what Anthony did in writing this book is one of the nicest and most touching things I've ever known anyone to do. A good story in itself. After I read this book I felt better about people and life in general. Not saying it's a masterpiece or anything but it's quite good and I can't think of anything really wrong with it which is all I ask of any book. Five stars is my score and I'm sticking to it.

Through The Ice,

I originaly started reading this book to waste time visting a close friend who worked at a library, i picked it because it wasn't too long for the time i would have visiting her, and it was co-written by Peirs Anthony an author who came with high regards from my family. In my first day of reading it i got through about the first 4 chapters, i then decided to check the book out so i could finish it. When i got the time at home to read more of the book it seemed as though i was reading a totaly different book as Seth an ordinary teenager was transported to a mystical land after a fight with some street punks in the are he lived in. To say this transition was a bad thing would be far from the truth the book only got better as more of this world was revealed and more of it's mesages made clear. As i got deeper into the story i began to notice trends in some of the events and morals portrayed by the two authors. By the end of the book, and Seth's actions near the end i became almost certain my hunch was right. This book seemed to me to be the epitome of a modern day satire as the fantasy world seth is transported to shows mimiced problems from our own society. This only made me enjoy the book more, never before had i encountered a satire in a fantasy book, it was very enjoyable and i would recomened it to anyone who is interested in fantasy. Hope you Enjoy it.

loved it,

I loved this book. I have read it at least a dozen times, and I never get sick of it. The cold, hard logic used by seth towards the end is amazing, leaving you to reread the last pages over and over again.

I read this book after I started reading the Xanth series while I was waiting for the new book to come out. I thought it was very well written and a great story. This is definatly a book I would consider reading again as it's like a good movie, once just isn't enough.

If you've read Piers Anthony before, you'll see his style all over the place. This book is an easy read, enjoyable, not to serious, well thought out story. You can't tell by reading it that it is a collaboration. Light fantasy at its best.

This book was wonderful. I read it for an assignment in school. Afterwards, I was happy I had read it. I've read more than once and each time it's just as good as the first. I recommend this book for anyone who loves fantasy. I've never read any other of Piers Anthony's books but I highly enjoyed this one.

Passable reading if you haven't borrowed any other books,

The storyline was predictable except the climax which was a bit silly. I didnt pay too much attention to the duality in the writing and didnt know who was writing which part but the plot was certainly jerking around. While it was obvious that Seth was the hero - there was absolutely no time spent on the other characters. The magic reed was the only useful item and it seems like Rame alone could have carried the day :). The confrontation with the sorceror was a joke - It had to be!!! This book is ok for a teen or for readers who like real light reading even in fantasy. (disclaimer - I am not a particular fan of piers who, I think is a bit too obsessed with sex especially with teen characters)

Great Read,

Piers Anthony is perhaps one of the most imaginative, spellbinding, and ultimately ingenius writers in the genre today. This book was indeed unique in that it was "co-written" with a dead Robert Kornwise. In essence, Anthony edited and elaborated upon Kornwise's original draft, which he had wrote in highschool before being killed by a drunk driver. Piers says he believes this is the book Robert would have written, if he were to have matured in his writing a bit and edited it himself. We start with a teenager by the name of Seth familiar with training in the martial arts. Seth winds up getting jumped after a party, and wanders out onto a frozen lake...where he falls Through the Ice. From here the story really gets going, taking you on a journey of wonderful landscapes and lovable characters. Fantasy at it's best. I'm tempted to say this is one of Piers better works-strange-because it's not really all his own material. But that aside, all Piers Anthony fans will be sure to want to pick this one up for their next read. Then again, this book is for fans of the fantasy genre period. A solid piece.

A Must Read!!,

This review is from: Through The Ice (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought it was wonderful! It had a great plot. I would like to mention one thing though. As one person said, it should have been a small series. Well maybe it was orriginally intended to be but Robert who was a 16 yr. old boy and was writing it was hit by a car and killed and his work was sent to Mr. Anthony by his parents. (Robert was a huge fan of Anthony's work apperantly) Anyways Piers finished and published it but since the colloborator isn't alive it probably wasn't possible to make it into another series. Anyways I think it was a wonderful book and I just wanted to point that out.

Review on Through The Ice,
By Bob (china) - See all my reviews

For people reading this review I will not tell you the story line of the book but I will say that if you like fantasies and fiction stories this would be a good book to read. This book is about 4 people who are each from different worlds and brought to one world to fight an evil scorcer to keep balance on all worlds. The book keeps you wanting to read more to see what happens to the four because they are always in trouble. The ending to me was not that great but that's me. I'm a person who thinks that the last guy the main characters fight, in these kind of books, should be the most challenging enemy of them all. Although the ending was not that great to me, the rest of the book is great and I recomend you to read this book.
