A BIG EXAGGERATION, March 22, 2008
This review is from: Through Many Dangers (Audio CD)
I produced this album and must object to Conroy's critique. Out of 31 selections -- a very generous number by any account -- six songs are foreshortened. None of them end long before they should. "If You Just Hold Out" and "Anywhere in Glory" stop because Marion got happy and couldn't continue; "We Shall Overcome" and "Even Me" end because she marched into the audience and was inaudible; to my great regret, "The New Dead Cat on the Line" and "What are They Doing in Heaven Today" end because the tape ran out (in both cases, only one line is lost). They were all brilliant performances that I didn't release during her lifetime because they were (very) slightly truncated.

The music presentation of the late Ms. Williams is one to be cherished. I've followed Ms. Williams singing from the early Ward Singers and distinquished early that she had an outstanding voice quality. A great voice has been silenced and will not be replaced. I'm attempting to find related information pertaining to Ms. Willliam's background. Any details would be greatly appreciated. .

Marion Williams and her magnificent voice didn't get the recognition she deserved until the end of her life. This album honors her in the best way possible. Thank you Anthony Heilbut for producing it with such love and doing her proud. This is simply some of the finest music you will ever hear. It transcends all genres. You don't have to be into gospel or blues or jazz or whatever- if you're a music lover, if you can feel, that's enough. There's no danger in these waters. You can't go wrong here. Get it. You won't be sorry.
