Superb Christmas Album!,

I absolutely love this album! Two original songs written by Michael McDonald (Through the Many Winters and Christmas on the Bayou); the other songs are traditional holiday songs that are sung in an untraditional and beautiful way. You will love this cd! Enjoy!!

Don't let the seasonal theme deter you... This album is easily a year-rounder!
Michael, once again, demonstrate his vocal and instrumental prowess with a mix of original cuts and classic remakes which run the stylistic gamut: Reggae, Brazilian Jazz, Louisiana Bayou, Appalachian twang and, of course, R&B. A definite must buy!

I love Michael McDonald anyway but this was very unusual and very enjoyable. His style even seems to have changed a little bit. I couldn't stop listening to it! Bravo

Unlike the previous poster who listened to "one and a half songs",
I've played this cd over and over and I don't wait for Christmas. It truly is amazing...from accoustic Silent Night, to Rocking Christmas on the Bayou it covers all the bases and the VOICE just continues to amaze. The man can do it all---write gorgeous songs like Through the Many Winters, play cajun accordian, and the voice just gets better and better. Get this cd-- you won't be sorry.

Literally, One of the Best Christmas Albums of All Time: You'll Never Get Tired of This One!,

I'm a huge fan of Christmas music. I was raised on the great opera singers' renditions (Pavarotti, Mario Lanza, etc.) and the traditional versions of many older carols. I've been in choirs since high school and have sung almost every carol there is. I have a Christmas music collection that includes over 50 albums, not counting the random songs I've downloaded over the years. The point? I know my Christmas music. I've heard tons of renditions of every song, and know many of the more obscure ones ("Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" is a favorite), but this is truly one of my favorite albums ever. I never tire of the songs on it, even after hearing carols in every place long before Halloween. Michael McDonald's iconic voice is amazing--as always--and the collection of songs on Through the Many Winters is exceptionally balanced between sweet songs filled with longing ("Wexford Carol," "Through the Many Winters") and joyous, rhythmic celebrations of the season ("Come, O Come Emanuel/What Month Was Jesus Born," "Christmas on the Bayou"). You feel as if you've had a full meal of music, from soup to nuts, after you listen to this album. If you like Christmas music at all, I urge you to add this to your collection!

This album is technically perfect. I absolutely love it above any other Christmas album. You should buy numerous copies and give them to your friends as gifts it is that good.

Still Doobie After All These Years,
This review is from: Through the Many Winters: A Christmas Album (Audio CD)
Nothing needs said about the unique and soulful voice of Michael McDonald. Loved him back in the Doobie Days and love him now that we are all Boomers. Hey, Doobies to Boomers! That could be the story of our lives! ;o)
But we all grown older and more mellow and much wiser. It's been a real adventure! Michael's true spirit is showing in this one...

Through the Many Winters...It Remains a Favorite,

A collection of holiday music that goes beyond the traditional arrangements of standards, as well as new offerings to add to your favorites playlist.
As always, McDonald's voice burnishes every note. Can the word soulful be used yet again to describe this? The man can sing, write and arrange.

Yes it's odd to hear Michael McDonald play a number of instruments... Perhaps you're better off with his first Christmas album where he does yet another Kenny Loggins cover!
