Having downloaded the book for free and read the first few pages, I'm not sure I'll continue. The topic captures my attention, and the lead character is engaging enough, but the writing is, at best, unpolished. Misplaced commas and poor phrasing abound even in the "letter to the editor" that makes us the prologue, which a teacher in the first chapter praises as well written. It isn't. This might be a compelling book, but without a thorough going-over by a professional editor, I'll probably never know.

Very informative and I kept putting it down and looking up the facts, I couldn’t find any wrong. Pigasis!!! Nice bone to start the hunt off Mr. Scott!

I was impressed with the simplistic romance between Snow and Jealousy it was so strong it didn’t need more than the asides. I really enjoyed the concept playing on the youth in the RFK speech, pretty powerful message.

Bottom line if you like books like The Handmaid’s Tale (speculative /dystopian style) or Agenda 21 (romance/ dystopian style) you will love this book.

The book, Through the Mill, is a compelling political thriller about the having courage to stand up for your beliefs. The characters are engaging. The book is filled with numerous historical references that ground this fictional story in facts. The author also throws in some witty dialogue between the characters. All summed up, the story is a great read.

James W Scott delivers an exceptional and thought provoking story, leaving the reader satisfied but looking for the sequel. I whole heartily recommend Through The Mill to anyone looking for a fresh new author. JSW congratulations on this top notch product, no pressure but can't wait until act two.

I really enjoyed this story...it's not usually the type of book I choose but I'm so glad that I gave it a try! I think it would translate into a fantastic film. As I read more into the story...I found myself wanting to know more about the characters and how the whole situation got started in the first place.

I'm not a huge reader of fiction. It was refreshing to see an author pull from today's issues and smack us upside the head with them. I hadn't read enough about Common Core, but now that I have, I am afraid of what Mr. Scott says about the universities turning away all Americans could actually happen. Who are the villains of our society really?

What is he going to teach me in the next book? I can't wait to see!

This story will remind the reader of (or introduce them to) a time when patriotism was strong and politics was about different things. It also offers a view of a very possible future. A future that awaits a society who sits idly by while infringements and entitlements expand and rights diminish.
The characters are people that I want to know. Their personalities are strong and developed. The interactions between the characters really draw you in. And like meeting new friends, you want to know more about each one of them.
The story is well thought out. There are clever twists and unexpected turns, suspense, intrigue and inventive ideas. It is a real page turner. I really look forward to additional installments in this series.

I liked the story, which seemed frightenly plausible in many ways, with the way our government is heading. Unfortunately, the writing was filled with incomplete sentences, missing or misused words, and confused wording. There were attempts to be witty that fell flat and the ever present and annoying "cool". It could have been 5 stars with better writing skills.
