About the Author

Born in Germany in 1948, spiritual author and teacher Eckhart Tolle also lived in Spain and England before settling in Vancouver, Canada, where he has resided since 1995. Tolle received his education at the Universities of London and Cambridge. Following several sustained periods of depression, at the age of 29 Tolle experienced an enlightenment that dramatically changed the course of his life. His subsequent spiritual teachings have focused on awareness of the present moment, freedom from negativity, and the attainment of inner peace. Tolle does not align himself with any specific religion or tradition. Tolle wrote the New York Times bestseller "The Power of Now," which has been translated into 33 languages, as well as "A New Earth." These two titles are considered to be among the most influential spiritual books in recent times. Tolle has also recorded many audio interviews and a video. Tolle is a public speaker who teaches and travels throughout the world. In January 2008, "A New Earth" was selected for Oprah Winfrey's book club.

From AudioFile

The teachings of Tolle are deceptively simple. Here he continues his teaching on the benefits of focusing on the now and being present in the moment. He has a low-key manner that is easy to listen to and to follow. With self-conscious humility Tolle breaks down his ideas into simple concepts that together offer a glimpse into the profound. He takes his subject matter seriously but not himself, and sprinkles in a light dose of humor. The recording has some of the drawbacks of a live recording, from a baby crying to some volume unevenness, but the energy of the presentation offsets any such shortcomings. More About the Author

Spiritual teacher and author Eckhart Tolle was born in Germany and educated at the Universities of London and Cambridge. At the age of twenty-nine a profound inner transformation radically changed the course of his life. The next few years were devoted to understanding, integrating, and deepening that transformation, which marked the beginning of an intense inward journey. Later, he began to work in London with individuals and small groups as a counselor and spiritual teacher. Since 1995 he has lived in Vancouver, Canada.

Eckhart Tolle is the author of the New York Times bestsellers The Power of Now (translated into 33 languages) and A New Earth, which are widely regarded as two of the most influential spiritual books of our time. In 2008, A New Earth became the first spiritual book to be selected for Oprah's Book Club as well as the subject of a ten-week online workshop co-taught by Eckhart and Oprah.

Eckhart's profound yet simple teachings have helped countless people throughout the world find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of the teachings lies the transformation of consciousness, a spiritual awakening that he sees as the next step in human evolution. An essential aspect of this awakening consists in transcending our ego-based state of consciousness. This is a prerequisite not only for personal happiness but also for the ending of violent conflict endemic on our planet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely incredible, December 23, 2005

This review is from: Through the Open Door to the Vastness of Your True Being (Audio CD)
If you have been so blessed to come across the teaching Eckhart Tolle offers, and this cd especially, you should take advantage. I have explored a great deal of spiritual teachers, from Osho to Ramana Maharshi, from Nisargadatta to J. Krishnamurti, and the power and the simplicity of Eckhart's teaching just obliterates all the rest (for me, at this time).

I have listened to quite a few of Tolle's audio recordings, and this one stands out. Believe me I am biased however, as I love the signpost "yes to what is" and hearing about the transformation that comes about through it, and that could rightly be considered the theme for this set. Of course he also hits the usual bases: Space Consciousness, inner body, ego reactivity, the now, etc. He does not go into the pain body on this recording. One thing worth mentioning is the extremely beautiful language he at times uses... it is expressly poetic and is mostly concentrated on disc one, track 9 to be even more specific "one deep yes to life".

To recap, I highly highly recommend this cd, especially with Amazon making Eckhart stuff more than half off his website price! When they offer the Findhorn bundle you may want to get it, as I think it is something ridiculously cheap ($26 for both is it?) and that one is very good as well.

Disc One:
1.Introduction
2.Free of future, free of past
3.The little me story
4.Stuck between fear and desire
5.The causes of unhappiness
6.Allowing this moment to be
7.To know yourself as stillness
8.The end of seeking
9.One deep yes to life *incredible track*
(running time 77:02)

Disc 2:
1.Introduction
2.The renunciation of thought
3.A field of presence
4.From thought to awareness
5.Renounce the next moment
6.From object consciousness to space consciousness
7.Whatever form this moment takes
8.The shift from no to yes
(running time 73:22)

5.0 out of 5 stars Say A Deep Yes To What Is, March 17, 2006
This review is from: Through the Open Door to the Vastness of Your True Being (Audio CD)
"The need for enemies-people, situation, places and so on-is the root for making the present moment something that you need to oppose. The present moment equals life. Life can only be present Now. The Little Me lives in opposition to the Now...to life itself. If that's not mad, what is?" - Eckhart Tolle

After experiencing an amazing awakening on a park bench, Eckhart Tolle-the author of The Power of Now-has brought the idea of present moment awareness to the mainstream with his live teachings, audio recordings, and bestselling books.

Through the Open Door to the Vastness of Your True Being, a 2-CD lecture published by Sounds True, further elaborates on the idea that the present moment is all we really have and explains why the ego-mind seeks conflict as a way to avoid the present moment. In fact, the concept of time-past and future-is a creation of the ego, feeding its insatiable appetite for thought forms such as opinions, interpretations, and labels. Instead of quiet stillness-such as when smelling a flower-the ego mind finds a need to have a running commentary about the aroma, the type of flower, the weather, and so on. Indeed, the need for constant judgment or interpretation of every situation is the hallmark of the ego mind and the root of suffering.

Resisting the Now causes suffering on all levels, with the tyranny of the "Little Me" constantly pushing us to wallow in or relish the past while rushing toward a future that promises something better. Neither the past nor the future exists, says Tolle, and are a construct of the Little Me designed to avoid the tightrope of Now. Stillness removes both time and suffering and while you can enter the Now through difficulties, Tolle explains that it doesn't have to be so. Yet, he assures us that our greatest challenges often call forth the deepest "No", i.e. resistance to the Present, which serves as a portal to a deeper "Yes" to what is. The result of this non-opposition? Love, joy, and peace-all those things that are ever-present but only accessed through stillness.

The Little Me panics at the idea of a futureless existence because the "next best thing"-the satisfying ending to the fabricated story of the ego mind-resides there. Whether seeking the perfect partner, career success, wealth, or even enlightenment, the Little Mind promises that the future contains fulfillment-which is why everyone is running wildly towards it. However, the only truly satisfying ending to the story is here right now-the vast ground of being that supports, envelops, and arises from the present moment.

With a run-time of approximately 2 ½ hours, Through the Open Door to the Vastness of Your True Being encourages renouncing both thought and the next moment, as well as ending all seeking, knowing yourself as stillness, and allowing this moment to be-no matter what form it takes. By saying a deep Yes to life as it is, we become free of fear and desire, of the future and past created by the Little Me. If you're familiar with the Power of Now and the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, there may be very little "new" here. However, that's the ironic part: even among spiritual seekers, the egoic mind searches for some new idea that will-at last-be the key to end all seeking. As he's done for years, Tolle continues to point the way to our true Being in this CD series, providing the antidote to suffering with incisive clarity, gentle wisdom and warm humor.

There is an exceptional quality that Eckhart Tolle possesses that reaches the depth of my being, especially in his audio. The way he conveys his messages, his humor, the analogies he gives are in my most sincere opinion nothing short of enlightening.

This audio CD set captures some of the best of Eckhart's teachings (they are all great, so it's hard to pick one over the other) however, this set is a must that I believe will be one that you will want to listen to many, many times.

It is an experience, more than just words. His work has had an enormous and deep impact on my own life and spiritual growth, and this CD set adds even more. I feel this would be a great companion to his "Findhorn Retreat" CD set, and this one would make a great gift for anyone who truly wants to experience the vastness of their being. 10 Stars all the way!
