4.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner for GA Henty, January 8, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As a long-time, huge fan of this author, I will say this is one of his better ones. Henty often uses a standard formula for his stories, but this one deviates by having two main characters and allows the reader to experience the great invasion and retreat from Russia from two angles. Filled with his typical detail, mastery of details, fluid plot line, and strong demonstration of the values of a gentleman, this book is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great historical fiction, July 22, 2011

I'm a big fan of this genre, especially military-centered like this. The characters are compelling and well-written as they grow and struggle against the backdrop of Napoleon's Russia campaign. The battle explanations are not overly detailed and the adventure reminded me of Clavall's "Shogun". Great book if you don't know much about the March to and from Moscow and would like a little adventure mixed in with the history.
