5.0 out of 5 stars Unique -- Sci/Fi Fantasy At Its Best -- Profound!, February 15, 2003

James Halon (Schererville, Indiana United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Through Spiral Eyes (Hardcover)
Dawn Smit is an excellent writer with a brilliant mastery of the English language. Her element is definitely Sci/Fi Fantasy. Her feline race is out there. I am a believer -- and most certainly -- a new fan in anticipation of a follow-up to this intriguing tale.
Dawn's novel won a third place award in the Paul Gillette Memorial Writing Contest for Science Fiction and Fantasy. No doubt, this book definitely rises to the heights of every Fantasy reader's needs. Dawn uses a new measurement system, and time elements that kept me on my toes throughout my read. Since college, I haven't had to use my imagery to understand things like -- the square root of a minus two. Dawn has challenged me to use my mind beyond the mundane. I recommend this read to all readers, young and old. For those who simply don't read fantasy? Here is a great work to begin with. Outstanding!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for sci-fi/fantasy fans!, August 21, 2002
By
This review is from: Through Spiral Eyes (Paperback)
If you like "boldly going where no man has gone before" you have to read Through Spiral Eyes. Dawn really makes the characters come alive - I wonder if she is part feline? She makes the Varaine seem so real I almost wonder if they're out there somewhere. WARNING: Do not start this book unless you have plenty of time to read - I could not put it down once I started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Concept - Incredible Message, May 31, 2003
This review is from: Through Spiral Eyes (Paperback)
Dawn Smit captured my heart with her novel, Through Spiral Eyes. I'm not an avid reader of Fantasy / Sci Fi, but I must admit I was taken by her unique concept of turning the tables on "traditional" Sci Fi. This story follows the young Hasshevaran Prince, Kieransar through a spirital journey. Struggling with his coming of age, he stumbles across the message of "the way" left behind by Human travlers stranded on his planet. Being born of royal blood and traditional customs make it impossible for him to simply "change" his beleif. If he choses not to serve the God's of his fathers, he could change the entire destiny of his planet.

Powerful spiritual messages are blended so smoothly into the storyline that it is educational as well as recreational. We are all products of our environment and have all learned very different beleifs. This book will make you step back and question all that you've acquired through the years and re-examine "the truth".
