Excellent & Exciting - Found Time Somehow to Read This Book!,
By JJenk8204@aol.com (Wilmington, DE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Through the Storm (Mass Market Paperback)
I recently discovered Beverly Jenkins. I never actively read 'romance' books and now I wonder if I've been missing out. Her development of characters and their relationship with Sable is wonderful. Sable's mother-in-law was a pearl and her brother-in-laws were humorous and brotherly. It was great to show Raimond's attachment and involvement with the adopted children. I love how the men in these books are larger than life and how they are attracted to strong-minded women. Ms. Jenkins is an excellent writer and I can't wait for her new book (I also am searching for copies of her out of print books - Indigo and Vivid.

This is another excellent book by Beverly Jenkins,
This review is from: Through the Storm (Mass Market Paperback)
Through The Storm is another wonderful book from Beverly Jenkins. This book catches the readers up on the characters in Indigo.Sable is a young woman escaping from her new owner. She meets Raimond LeVeq at one of the slave camps the Union has set up. Raimond is in charge of the camp. He is captivated by Sable, but at first she does not feel the same. Raimond and Sable do finally begin a relationship, but Sable is caught up in not being taken back to the plantation and leaves with her new friends. Raimond meets Sable again as the woman his mother wants him to marry. From this point on, Raimond is in trouble. It does not help that he only wants Sable to fulfill the provisions of his grandfather's will, that his brothers and his mother are in love with Sable. Raimond finally admits that he is in love with Sable, and has to take teasing from his good friend Galeno. This book is a good read and the history that Beverly always includes in her books on add t! o the story.

When Beverly write a story, she sucks you right into her books. Whenever I read a portion of any of her books, when I get through reading it I have to check the cloths that I am wearing because I feel like I just escaped from someone. I also feel like I just made love to Raymond or one of his brothers. I feel like I have been on a journey with Beverly and her characters. If only she could write more books. I want to read something by Beverly once a month.

Despite all of the hoopla over "Vivid" and "Indigo", I believe that this book is MS. Jenkins' absolute best show of her talent. It starts off with the main character, Sable, escaping from slavery. Somwehere down the road, she meets handsomeRaimond LeVeq, a union soldier. They end up together in a marriage of convience. What else happpens? You'll just simply have to read this masterpiece to find out. It is well written and the historical facts that are included make one feel as if they are watching history unfold. A salways, the surprise ending is wonderful!! Thankyou Ms. Jenkins for giving us yet another PAGETURNER!!

It was the first of Jenkins that I had ever read and I loved it. The way that she put African American history and mixed it together to bring about a story of love and struggle. I couldn't put it down.

Well Written Romance!!,
By pecantan94@hotmail.com (Atlanta, Ga) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Through the Storm (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow!! This was another splendid romance written by Mrs. Jenkins. I am an avid reader of romance novels and Beverly Jenkins is at the top of my list. I must say that African American women everywhere should feel truly blessed to have such a gifted writer within our time. The romance in the novel was sizziling, and passionate. It gave me goose bumps and made me wish that I could conjure up a Leveq look-alike. The history was astounding and informative. Sable and Raimond made a terrific couple, despite their differences. It surely took a large heart for the Leveq's to take in three homeless children. It took me by suprise to find out that the characters Galen and Hester appeared throughout the novel as well. I have read all of Mrs. Jenkin's novels and they just keep getting better and better. I can't wait for Mrs. jenkins to come to the Atlanta area for a book signing tour. There are two questions that I have for Mrs. Jenkins before I leave. Where do you find the men built like Adonis to pose for your cover? and When is the next novel coming out? Until next time, Keep up the good work !!!

Terrific ethnic romance,

This review is from: Through the Storm (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1864 Georgia, Sable Fontaine realizes that her occupation as a slave may be nearing an end but she remains in jeopardy. Though she has been treated reasonably well and educated by her father (the plantation owner) and is close with her half-sister, her father's wife has sold her to the cruel Henry Morse. Sable flees her home via the underground railroad with Henry in hot pursuit. At one station, she meets Raimond LeVeg, who falls in love with the spicy girl. However, she runs away from his camp when Henry arrives. This leaves Raimond questioning his own wisdom as he wonders if she is a spy? Sable goes to New Orleans where she meets Raimond's mamam and ultimately she weds Raimond. However, Henry is a nineteenth century stalker, who is coming for his property regardless of Lincoln and his proclamations. Beverly Jenkins is by far the leading writer of African-American historical romances and her latest novel, THROUGH THE STORM, enhances that well-deserved reputation. Though the story line requires an acceptance of coincidence, readers will enjoy the historical authenticity that brings to light facts often ignored by history texts. The lead rotagonists are a charming duo, whose romance is passionate and hot. Any fan of historical romances, who have failed to try a Jenkins novel is missing out on one of the best writers of the sub-genre. Harriet Klausner

Chivalry & Love,
By A Customer
This review is from: Through the Storm (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read all but two of Beverly Jenkins books, and this was by far my favorite. This book has it all, Love, Loyalty, Passion, Chivalry, and Forgiveness. A strong, capable, and beautiful heroine, and a Handsome, Strong, Charming, and Intellegent Hero; Romance doesn't get any better. This books takes us from slavery, to the horrors and joys of the camps, finally to a world with educated, wealthy, and hadsome black people. It also deals with the loss of family to the horrors of slavery and the migration of our people that could pass for white. I give this book 5 stars, I would give it 6 if I could.
