THROUGH THE STORM IS TRULY INSPIRATIONAL, July 30, 2008
This review is from: Through the Storm (Urban Christian) (Paperback)
I recently read Rain Storm then immediately followed it by reading Through The Storm. Both books were spellbinding for me. Through the Storm was thoughtful, mind provoking and suspensful all at the same time. I literally couldn't put it down. In today's society, the scripture, "You reap what is sow" has been thrown aside and forgotten. Yet in this book, although Isaac is a changed man, he is forced to look back into his past life in order to live and move forward in his ministry. We as Christians forget that although we've been forgiven there are consequences for our actions and these consequences sometimes affect our entire family and our life. That is exactly what faced Isaac Walker and his family, especially his daugher, Iona, whom he didn't realize existed until she was ten years old. She is now in her twenties and an attorney.
Besides being suspenseful and thrilling, faith, forgiveness and the power of prayer permeate this book. Once you finish it, you can't help but re-evaluate your life in terms of your faith and belief in prayer. The power of forgiveness also forces you to look honestly into your heart to see what you think you've loosed but in reality you're still harboring. This book is enlightening and wonderful. I truly truly enjoyed it and would recommend it highly. Keep up the great work Vanessa!

The Power of Prayer, August 27, 2009
This review is from: Through the Storm (Urban Christian) (Paperback)
Through the Storm is the third book in a series by Vanessa Miller. Reformed gangster, Isaac Walker is now a pastor over The House of God Christian Church. After bringing many hustlers, gangsters, and drug dealers to Christ, Isaac now finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery. Someone is killing the very criminals that are giving their lives to Christ. Meanwhile, authorities only find one thing in common with the murders, and that is Isaac.
Isaac's daughter, Iona, met him when she was ten and went to live with him because her mom was on drugs. Now she is a high-powered attorney and has taken on his case. She has not turned her life over to Christ and is willing to do anything to prove her father's innocence. Will Isaac be proven innocent or will he go down for murders he did not commit?
Through the Storm is a very realistic read. Miller does a great job of crafting a story so that the characters are believable; each member of the Walker family having an assigned guardian angel is convincing. Isaac's entire family is jeopardized by some of the wrong doings of his past. But through prayer they all come together. I have not read the other books in this series, but Miller brought me up to speed. You do not have to read the entire series to be able to enjoy this book. As a stand alone, this book was excellent.

Overwhelming Good Feeling, August 15, 2008
This review is from: Through the Storm (Urban Christian) (Paperback)
I don't want to tell the story because I want everyone to go out and get the book and read it for themselves. However, while reading, you will definitely get the feeling of how powerful prayer really is.
The thing I love most about Vanessa's books is the details that she gives about the angels. Every time I read about one of the angels and how they are fighting our battles for us, a big smile comes across my face.
It's a great joy to have an overwhelming good feeling after reading a book and Through the Storm, along with the other Rain Series books, have definitely done that for me.
I can't wait to read more from Vanessa.
