5.0 out of 5 stars A bit deeper than the "Universe" series

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Science. Childish Presentation.
I love the science topics they talk about in this show. It's an incredible and mind-boggling set of topics. Quantum physics and the Quantum implications are absolutely fascinating to me.

The representations to me are a touch on the childish cartoon side. If you are seriously interested in this topic of science, maybe a different source may be better, such as...

This review is from: Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman (DVD)
This Science Channel series covers much of the same ground as the History Channel's "Universe" series, but makes more historically relevant choices for expert commentators. Rather than relying, typically, on astronomers and physicists with general creditials, as the Universe does, "Through The Wormhole" uses almost exclusively scientists directly involved in pioneering work, some of which is ongoing. Wormhole also is a bit more provocative philosophically, which appealed to me. Morgan Freeman provides excellent narration, as one would expect from an accomplished actor. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Through The Wormhole, 2 DVD Set Fantastic!!, March 21, 2011
This review is from: Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman (DVD)
One of the best documentaries I have seen. In the product listing (Amazon) it list the tracks from One of the discs and the other is missing. I don't have the set infront of me to add the rest. The first disc is the best. I would say - have a cup of coffee before watching this set - not because it's boring - but you need to be fully awake - and paying attention to get this. Very deep. And for me - I'll watch it many times over - because there is so much to take in.

They also talk of blackholes on here too.

I also own another set - "The Notradamus Effect" - and it is equal to this. So if you saw that one and liked it - get this one "Through The Wormhole" - and if you like that one - Get "The Nostradamus Effect".

I also caution, on Amazon - I believe I see it relisted (must be the same set) and the sellers are seeking higher prices.

I wish I could find more DVDs on time travel (on a scientific level).

Enjoy, Scott MacNeil.

I recently started a new hobby of star gazing, and found "Through The Wormhole" both instructional and entertaining. Anything with Morgan Freeman is worth watching. I highly recommend the DVD to anyone at any age. The information is up to date and the graphics and visual effects are fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman, August 17, 2011

Not having cable, I didn't know about this series, so I bought it based on my sister's recommendation. After watching the series, an odd thing happened. I found a magazine: "Time 100 New Scientific Discoveries" which might as well have been called a scientific up-date for Through the Wormhole! So many of the episodes from the series were not only validated by the magazine, but proved to be stepping stones to even greater developments. That, to me, says that Through the Wormhole is "cutting edge" science and well worth the watching. In other words, you can trust the sources as being reliable and informed - not just theory and conjecture.

Yes, I found the camera work annoying also, but it's still worth the watching for the insights that they present. Their take on Dark Matter, alone, was worth the price of admission.

For those with a scientific mind-bend, this needs to be in your library. For those of you who can't understand scientific stuff - this is for you also - it's presented so you can get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, entertaining, GREAT CGI effects!, September 8, 2011
This review is from: Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman (DVD)
I wish I had access to material like this when my children were young! Morgan Freeman provides just the right pacing and tone in this DVD that explores some very deep philosophical questions from the viewpoint of the edges of science. I did not find this to be "new agey" as some reviewers did; I thought it raised questions that made science sound interesting, not dull, and led to some great discussions among my family and friends who watched. I also watched a few of the physics segments in conjunction with reading the The 4 Percent Universe: Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and the Race to Discover the Rest of Reality. It was a nice overview of dark matter, etc.

Not a boring science lesson, but some adventures that are exciting, well produced and have some visual effects that will blow you away. Better than many Hollywood productions! This is the perfect gift for the sci-fi loving teenager or grandchild who is still wide-eyed and open to new ideas. It works pretty well for jaded Grandpas as well :>).

I wanted an overview of what's happening in science. This series was very interesting, I particularly liked the interviews with the people working in the various fields and the graphics. I believe this type of series can go a long way in educating the older people like me, 72, and at the same time generate interest in young people of the sciences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Morgan knows how to make things interesting, June 5, 2011
This review is from: Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman (DVD)
This presentation is one of the best Astro-informatives since "Cosmos" (1980 TV mini-series documentary). There is no new information but it is well organized and the speculation is well done.

1 What Happened Before the Beginning?

We are treated to the prevailing theories including "Big Bang" with well done visuals.

2 Are We Alone?

Chances are put into prospective. And what we are doing to find them E.T. critters.

3 Is Time Travel Possible?

That all depends on if you follow Einstein's relativity theory and buy into space-time. Going back is a little tougher sale. Morgan handles it perfectly.

4 How Did We Get Here?

Chicken and the egg. Speculation on what life may be in other environments. Get out your periodic chart.

5 What Are We Really Made Of?

More great speculation. We see the collider that could have been in Texas. But in any event it is an eye opener into the quantum.

Again one of the things that made this documentary palatable was Morgan Freeman, Narrator of 11 episodes, 2010-2011. You may also recognize Paul Davies "The Big Questions" 1995 TV series documentary short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Show, July 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman (DVD)
I had not watched the first season of this show, but caught a couple of the new season so I wanted to go back and get the first one.

To start with, Morgan Freeman is a great host of the show. I have always liked him and his voice and personality match the show perfectly and makes it easy to listen to.

The show itself addresses various issues that many people think about from time-to-time and often crosses into the areas where science fiction and science fact meet, such as whether there are aliens from outer space.

The various experts on the subject matter are engaging and work well to try to present the material in a manner that is easy for a layman to follow, but you do not feel that they are talking down to you. Instead you feel they are making an effort to bring difficult concepts across in an easy manner.

Some of the episodes also work well for older children, especially if they are curious about science. One thing to note is you may want to take a look at the episodes. For example, like the concept of life after death (second season, not this DVD) or that aliens may be things that may not be appropriate depending on the particular child - not that they are scary, but you may want to give a quick run through the various episodes to make sure it works for you children if you are watching with them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Science. Childish Presentation., December 4, 2011
This review is from: Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman (DVD)
I love the science topics they talk about in this show. It's an incredible and mind-boggling set of topics. Quantum physics and the Quantum implications are absolutely fascinating to me.

The representations to me are a touch on the childish cartoon side. If you are seriously interested in this topic of science, maybe a different source may be better, such as "Quantum Enigma" by Rosenblum anf Kuttner (see link below).

If maybe you are a more visual person or would prefer a less intensely-scientific representation of very deep material, this is a good show. It makes it simple enough for non-scientific people, yet is still incredible science.

Advances in science have really made for some very interesting programs and this is one of the best. Mr. Freeman does an excellent job as narrator as his passion for science shows through. Keep these types of programs coming.
