This review is from: Throw Me Something, Mister: Two young children see their first Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans (Paperback)
As a born and bred New Orleanian, I bought this book to read to a class out of state. I was a little disappointed that I had to 'edit' it for accuracy. I'm sure for children who have never experienced Mardi Gras, it's a cute book-- but I can tell it's not written by a local. The content of this paperback is most appropriate for first through fifth grades, as there is a lot of text on each page and won't keep the attention of younger children. As a teaching tool, this book would be a good companion piece. The main thing I liked about this book is that it described the concept of Mardi Gras very well, but the author called our street cars 'trolleys' and focused on Lucky Dogs rather than King Cakes. A thank you to Malcolm Wright for sharing this story and to his daughter for illustrating it, but ...<shoulder shrug>.. ehhhh...
