Book Description

March 21, 2002
Two business classics, or one business classic and his new book, or two business books - however you want to describe it - here is Stanley Bing at his best - giving you the ying and the yang of the business world. If What Would Machiavelli Do? was the meanest business book in recent history - Throwing the Elephant provides the yang to that yin.The focus of What Would Machiavelli Do? is on what works and how to get it done. Machiavellians may not get to heaven, but on earth they have a significant edge over the competition. The goal is to learn how to approach problems in a manner that is at once creative, geared toward achieving financial success, and refreshingly amoral.Throwing the Elephant: Zen and the Art of Managing Up artfully, clearly, and concisely provides a thorough grounding in the Zen Buddhist attitude you will need in order to move forward and control the people you work for. This book guarantees personal enlightenment while providing literally dozens of helpful, specific exercises and solutions to the most common problems of professional life.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Stanley Bing is a columnist for Fortune magazine and the author of What Would Machiavelli Do? and Lloyd: What Happened, a novel. By day, he works for a gigantic multinational conglomerate whose identity is one of the worst-kept secrets in business.

From AudioFile

Bing's columns in FORTUNE magazine nip at the heels of corporate America by taking satirical jabs at the idiotic direction of many public companies these days. In these two audios, packaged together, he goes for the jugular as he describes everything and anything wrong with large companies today. The narrators of both books are outstanding; both express enough dignified rebelliousness to match the author's words, making the listening quick and entertaining. On top of satirical commentary and priceless examples of corporate lunacy, there is exceptional advice on how to cope with the realities of the today's corporations. These are two phenomenal audios that everyone in corporate America ought to hear. T.W. © AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

Stanley Bing is one of the funniest writers of this century. If you are slightly political, slightly crazed and enjoy a great laugh, buy all his books and if possible the audio version.
