12/22/13 UPDATE: The wheel is still going strong, getting better every day. There has been a new update to Forza 5 now that allows you to adjust the degree of rotation (DOR) settings in the game. What I find works the best now is to set your DOR on the wheelbase itself (using the left button + mode) to 4 flashes (900 degrees). Once you have that set, you can then adjust the DOR in the actual advanced settings in the game. Also, I got the playseat challenge for this wheel, its added a whole new element to my enjoyment. Not only is the seat awesome, but the wheel itself has gotten so much better when using it in a proper setup (instead of my computer chair with the TX clamped to the desk).

Got this wheel a few days ago (didn't get it from Amazon since I had a gift card to a different retailer). Just a little background, I've been playing Forza since FM3 on the Xbox 360 and have been using the Microsoft Wireless Racing Wheel for the past 4 years. In all honestly, I actually really liked that wheel (then again, I had nothing to compare it to).

My first impressions of the TX when I took it out of the box wasn't the best. I already knew there were tons of plastic components (pretty much the whole base and wheel minus the paddle shifters). I used to use my MS Wheel on my lap but knew that I had to mount this wheel. I mounted it to my desk pretty easily. After the firmware update I fired up the XB1. Everything with the wheel seemed to work fine and was calibrated correctly.

My first race was in the Ferrari F12 (which was my favorite car to use with the controller). I usually race with all assists off and steering on simulation. My first race was HORRIBLE. I was all over the place and couldn't seem to figure out the steering on the car.

I bought my Thrustmaster TX wheel at Gamestop and have easily put over 100 hours of use on it in with Forza 5. The wheel does have several quirks, but once I figured out how to work around them, the racing experience in Forza 5 can be fantastic.

Here is my start up procedure for when I want to use the wheel with Forza 5 that I follow every time with 100% success that works around most of the issues I have seen reported:

1. Disconnect TX Wheel USB cable from XBOX ONE
2. Power up XBOX ONE to dashboard
3. Turn TX wheel rim fully to left stop / counter clock wise. (this will resolve most calibration issues)
4. Plug in TX wheel power and then USB cable to XBOX ONE (initial wheel calibration starts)
5. Start Forza 5 (Wheel should center properly)

NOTE: Do not connect any standard wireless controller once you follow the above to procedure use the wheel with Forza 5 or different wheel functions will stop working and you will have to re-do the start up procedure in the correct order.

Wheel Rotation Angle (DOR): The wheel defaults to 900 Degrees rotation when it is powered up and will override the in game saved setting for rotation in the advanced controller menu. This is actually a good thing, as you can change the rotation angle for the wheel on the fly by pressing the the left d-pad and mode button at the same time. The mode light will flash to the corresponding DOR.

4 flashes - 900
3 flashes - 540
2 flashes - 360
1 flash - 270

I have found that 900 DOR works best for D-R class road cars and race cars and I switch to 540 DOR when using P and X class race cars.

10 Mar Update - Well, with over 3000 miles and 38 hours of actual track time, this third wheel is performing well. My guess is that after all the problems and complaints with the early wheels, TM has focused on getting the bugs worked out and are now shipping wheels that work. Forza 5 does get a little boring after an hour or so due to the limited number of tracks but that's probably good because one could spend too much time in front of the tube. Besides, spring is coming and the back country roads are calling.

21 Feb update. I got tired of looking at my unused XB1 so I ordered a third wheel from Amazon. I have also been in frequent contact with TM tech support who have been fairly responsive and seem interested in helping me get a wheel that works and address other issues. Went through the update on PC and connected the new wheel to the XB1. I have put about 20 hrs of actual track time over a dozen sessions and this wheel is working great. There have been some important learnings which might benefit other customers.
1. First, I do think my first wheel died, but I'm not sure on the second. The second wheel updated fine but would not work when connected to the XB1 console (so I sent it back). My third wheel worked for several sessions then one day it would not work at all. I was connected to one of the rear USB ports as recommended by TM TS in an earlier email. I thought I had another dead wheel. Not wanting to return another wheel I started playing around with the Xbox1. I connected the USB cable to the other USB port on the rear of the Xbox console. Nothing. I decided to try the side USB port. The wheel WORKED! Now I wondered if I had a defective console. I unplugged the console power cord for 60 seconds and plugged it back in again. Both rear USB ports now worked.
