This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
To say the center dead spot is "huge" is an understatement. There is no "minute adjustments" with this wheel. You're either going straight or turning 90 degrees.

i bought it for use with Rallisport Challenge and it is totally unusable. The game demands constant steering input, and this wheel doesn't give it to you. The sensitivity adjustment button on mine must be broke, because pushing it to change the sensitivity had no discernable effect.

The controls are, apparently, not user configurable either. The paddles, for some bizarre reason, control your gas and brake instead of your gears, and there's not a thing you can do to change it. Very counter-intuitive.

i will be returning this wheel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great steering wheel breaks in less than three months, March 21, 2002
This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
First let me preface this: The Thrustmaster Steering wheel has some excellent features: Adjustable steering sensitivity, button setup, and nice throttle sensitivity make it a very nice playing wheel. I've had a great time with it, until a week ago.

I had some worries about the controller from the beginning, as it made some ominous creaking noises out of the box. These concerns were confirmed last week when something snapped in the wheel during Rallisport Challenge. This has caused a steady increase in slackness in the wheel, resulting in a deadspot that makes the wheel unusable. Bummer.

Let me add, this is my first bad experience with a peripheral, I've never broken anything else in the past, including other third party wheels (Logitech<PS2> and Mad Catz <DC> are two other steering wheel peripherals used extensively). Purchase at your own risk...

1.0 out of 5 stars This is by Thrustmaster!?, August 24, 2002

Totally disappointing. The dead space is unbelievably large and the 8-directional button keeps misinterpreting input strokes. Can't believe this junk has the Thrustmaster name on it. The wheel is cheap plastic construction and has a very flimsy feeling. Don't waste your time and money on this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Perfect, But Not Bad for a 1st Generation Wheel, July 16, 2002
By
This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
Hi - After taking out this TM wheel, I was initially skeptical, but after re-reading the instructions and experimenting a little, I have to admit it's not too bad.
Cons -
1-At first, the construction seemed somewhat cheap, but after monkeying around a little, and talking with friends, I found that as long as you do not excessively over-rotate it (stay calm during gameplay folks!!), the wheel holds up just fine
2- No Force Feedback. Frankly, not TM's fault, but Microsoft's as they view FFB as a lower priority. Incidentally, the construction issues listed above may be linked to the fact that MS hasn't decided on an FFB standard.

Pros-
1 - the wheel turn sensitivity is adjustable
2 - table-top AND lap top attachments
3 - foot and/or handpedal capabilties
4 - the buttons can be re-programmed - let's say you don't like the gear up location in Project Gotham - just go through a short and easy sequence, and Viola, you can use a different, non-contortionist finger to control the action

Conclusion -
The Thrustmaster wheel is far from perfect. But, given my past experience with other first generation wheels, this was a pretty good purchase. Thrustmaster obviously put a lot of thought behind some of these features to help us gamers compensate for lack of flexibility in certain games (HELLO Microsoft - Project Gotham should have been fully wheel compatible). Given this history, I wouldn't be surprised if these guys manage to come up with a newer and better version in the future.

The steering wheel is offline, it sticks and goes to one direction. Also the bottons on the steering wheel are all backwords. The is the worst steering wheel I have ever used.

2.0 out of 5 stars Arcade OK, but simply not up to standards for simulations!, June 23, 2002
By
This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
Here we go!! just got myself a XBox, F1 2002, and this steering wheel...

My conclusion is simple and dreadfull... it's just doesn't give me accurate control over my car!! The deadspot in the center is just to big, and the forcefeedback get's a 2 out of 10. The experience with my PC and wheel is better!! and thats not the reason for me to run to the shop...

But ok, as an objective reviewer i can give it 2 stars as it is useable in arcade like games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a good choice, April 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
The only good thing I can say about this wheel, is that it worked as soon as I plugged it in with no set up or configuration (other than the table clamp)

I tried several games with this wheel.. Apex, Gotham Racing, Need for Speed, RalliSport.. and in all the games, the results were the same.

Firstly, the wheel is too small, it needs to be a little bit bigger. Second, there is alot of play in the wheel, for racing, you want the wheel to be responsive to small movements. This is not the case. Third, the button positions could be much better, they are difficult to reach while trying to drive.

I would not suggest getting this wheel, it just doesn't do racing justice

2.0 out of 5 stars Wheel Woes, April 16, 2002
This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
This is a decent steering wheel if you want a basic arcade-style experience. For those who are a bit pickier about the driving, the wheel has a large "dead-spot" in the middle of the steering range which makes precise steering adjustments next-to-impossible.

Some positive notes are the programmable features and the Microsoft-style cable break-aways (which allows controller extension cables to be used)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good But with a few flaws, March 31, 2002
By
This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
This wheel is really good. The only major flaws are that when you change racing games you may need to change the sensitivity of the wheel. I was really looking foward to having a realistic gear shifter but it only shifts up and down which makes it good for the games like cell damage but not so realistic for games like project gotham racing. The foot pedals are great and i recomend you get this game wheel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed, January 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro Victory Racing Wheel for Xbox (Video Game)
I would not recommend this wheel to anyone. I could have lived with the problem where the pedals and buttons would sometimes stop working and require that the Xbox be restarted, but the thing which I found totally unacceptable was how poor a controller this actually was. Let me state at the outset that I was aware of the different sensitivity settings as well as the ability to reprogram the button assignments, and I did experiment with all the different settings. With that said, I found that on "Project Gotham Racing 2" trying to make course corrections would have no effect while you were in the 'null' area of the wheel, and as soon as you moved beyond the null area, it would immediately put you into a wall. As for times when I was cornering, the wheel did not seem linear at all and I found myself hitting the wheel limits (90º left/right) too soon so that I was left plowing into the outside edge of a corner that I had previously had no problems with while using a thumb controller. I found it very frustrating that, after many practice laps, I still wasn't able to even match, let alone beat, my times using the standard Xbox controller. All in all, a very disappointing product - I had higher expectations of something bearing the "Officially licensed for the Xbox" moniker.
