Product Description

Color: Blue

The Thudguard helmet is ideal for babies who are still less than sure-footed when developing their newfound mobility. Learning to walk on hardwood floors, tiles, patios or near hard furniture can cause painful accidents. The helmet is lightweight, sturdy and comfortable plus has been impact tested and endorsed by emergency and medical experts. The Thudguard hat is designed to absorb and reduce the impact of head injury due to fall or collision from a child's own height. It has an adjustable soft elastic chinstrap and is made of ultra lightweight foam and materials to avoid pressure on developing neck muscles. .75 inch thick impact tested foam to absorb severity from bumps. A comfortable stretchy circumference band allows for growth and holes and air channels on inside of helmet for ventilation. One size fits all. Helmet design eliminates the need for sizes S/M/L. (16" circumference plus 4" provided by stretchy band.)

Her head get sweaty wearing this for short time, and she is trying to pull off the helmet, but currently she doesn't have the skill to do so yet.

While wearing it, he has experienced some bad falls but thankfully his head is very protected all around and has not suffered from them.

The helmet seemed a necessity once the baby started pulling up. However, we used it for a total of 30min. The helmet gets so hot, the baby was dripping sweat within 5 minutes of having this on. I read the reviews about this problem, but figured it would be ok since it was winter when we bought it, and we keep the house cooler than the average person. I dread to think of parents putting this on a baby in the summer. It would be borderline dangerous. Supervise your baby and save your $$$.

Update 6/2012
Having mentioned that this is not a good product should not deter you from finding something else suitable. I don't think that we should overprotect our children, but head injuries are serious. My 2.5 year old slipped on a wet tile floor and had major behavior changes for 3 weeks as a result. Unless the head bump causes a concussion, the medical profession is useless. So although in my case, I was sure the head bump affected my child, three different doctors told me it was okay as long as he didn't throw up. (I was about to throw up at them for being so useless.) Pre-verbal children may not be able to articulate what they feel and how the head bump affects them. Supervise your children, re-configure your living areas, wash your floors only when children sleep, and why not, try to find some kind of contraption that protects accident-prone children.

When the Zombie Apocalypse comes, this will be a stylish and comfortable way to protect baby's delicious brains from would-be zombie snack seekers.

Unfortunately, this helmet only protects the top and sides of the head. The face isn't properly shielded. We've tried incorporating a visor made of high-impact polycarbonate (available for industrial workers in various sizes) but the straps of the visor interfere with the helmet itself. Swim goggles are easier to incorporate, but leave the nose and mouth exposed. (The smallest-size motorcycle helmets are still too large and too heavy. We've tried them.)

The rest of the child's body is also a problem. I know this helmet isn't trying to address this, but it's worth noting that this is only one part of a full protection approach. Our system of pillows, towels and duct tape works pretty well, but is too warm in hot weather. I'd love to see a full-body suit that breathes.

I ordered this to help protect my one year old son who has hemophilia. His head does sweat a bit but it's a small price to pay for all of the trips to the ER that it has saved us from taking. I love it, and love that it's cute too. I would recommend this to any parent with a hemophiliac toddler, it's a life saver, literally.

Got mine in the mail today. This is an excellent product!! My 8 month old pulled on it a few times at first and cried when I put it on him, but after distracting him a little with some different things to play with, he forgot about it and seemed to not even realize it was on his head! It's so cute!! Now he can crawl all over our tile floors and I no longer have to worry myself sick about him hurting his head again!! I LOVE IT!

My daughter got this for her 7 month old son, who is now 10 months. He has been wearing it for 3 months, since he started crawling and pulling himself up. Prior to getting this, he hit his head on an average of 2-3 times a day on linoleum floor on top of concrete, no matter HOW careful we watched him. He is wild. Anyway he got a few good bumps so we ordered this safety helmet.

WONDERFUL! Gave us a little bit of a chance to relax a little more. He sometime fusses for a second while we are putting it on, but he can be distracted and then goes about playing happily. When it was hot out, he got a bit sweaty so we take it off for a bit and them put it back on.

Was worth the money! I would say it was one of the top five things we got for him!

This works only because I put it on his head at 6 months when he was crawling. Then he was used to it and now wears it as a toddler. He fell back hit the helmet on ceramic tile when he was learning to walk. I was so happy it was on him. As for the haters; it's a hot helmet but it's better than a TBI or seizure disorder.
Update. Our son is now 15 months and still wears it. I have a youtube video here of him wearing the helmet! I cannot say enough great things about this helmet. http://youtu.be/dBRbXkgniJY

It is so cute and my son loves to put his helmet on and be just like grandpa who rides a motorcycle. Had to stitch the elastic in the back together, so it doesn't fall off (my son's head circumference is on the smaller side), but that was no big deal. The real problem is that his head gets all sweaty within minutes of him wearing it. I wish it was lined with cotton or something else to prevent the sweating. It's probably like a sneaker - if you wear socks, your feet don't necessarily sweat as much, but wearing them on bare foot is quite uncomfortable. The holes are just not enough. A product like this you need to be able to leave on most of the time (at least an hour at a time) to serve it's purpose. If I could predict the exact minute my kid would bang his head, I wouldn't need this.
