Product Description

Color: Blue

Learning how to walk in a world of hard surfaces can turn a special moment into a heart rendering incident in a flash. Babies will always fall taking their first steps. Now your toddler can explore and enjoy its newfound mobility around the house and yard with head protection without worrying their parents. Most homes today have hardwood floors or tiles and falling on a hard surface can be very traumatic for a toddler and cause different degrees of head injury. The Thudguard hat is a revolutionary product from United Kingdom; an infant safety hat designed to help absorb and reduce the impact of falls from a child's own height and lessen the chance of head injury. Thudguard hats are suitable for ages between 7 months to 2 years. Depending on the size of the child's head, stretching from 16 to 20 inches in circumference. It is recommended to take a measurement of your child's head first to confirm the compatibility of the Thudguard sizing. Thudguard is one of the lightest head guards in the world, weighing just less than 3.2 oz. This ultra lightweight design is extremely important for an infant's developing neck muscles Thudguard helps cushion the forehead, side and back of the head. It is made from ultra lightweight high density foam and medium weight, soft-spun poly / lycra. This makes it ideal for stretching and keeping the shape of the helmet allowing it to be very durable and easily kept clean. Thudguard complies with safety standards and is endorsed by Children's Accident & Emergency Experts. Protect your toddlers head and make the learning how to walk experience fun for the whole family.

The helmet seemed a necessity once the baby started pulling up. However, we used it for a total of 30min. The helmet gets so hot, the baby was dripping sweat within 5 minutes of having this on. I read the reviews about this problem, but figured it would be ok since it was winter when we bought it, and we keep the house cooler than the average person. I dread to think of parents putting this on a baby in the summer. It would be borderline dangerous. Supervise your baby and save your $$$.

Update 6/2012
Having mentioned that this is not a good product should not deter you from finding something else suitable. I don't think that we should overprotect our children, but head injuries are serious. My 2.5 year old slipped on a wet tile floor and had major behavior changes for 3 weeks as a result. Unless the head bump causes a concussion, the medical profession is useless. So although in my case, I was sure the head bump affected my child, three different doctors told me it was okay as long as he didn't throw up. (I was about to throw up at them for being so useless.) Pre-verbal children may not be able to articulate what they feel and how the head bump affects them. Supervise your children, re-configure your living areas, wash your floors only when children sleep, and why not, try to find some kind of contraption that protects accident-prone children.

We got this helmet for our son when he started being more mobile. It's a great product. Gives us some peace of mind when he's crawling, pulling up on things, etc. The only thing to mention is that if he's had it on for a long period of time, his head becomes sweaty. The helmet has holes on it to prevent this issue, but even the instructions that come with it suggest to take it off every so often so they don't become over-heated. Even then, our son does not seem to mind this. He leaves it on the majority of the time. Only when he's tired is when he tries taking if off. The helmet itself is very lightweight, so it doesn't bother our son. Half of the time, I don't think he even realizes that he has it on. The ohter thing I like about it are the "ears." They're really cute. We've gotten many compliments on it and always get asked where I found it. So, to sum it up, it's one of the best investments we've made! We don't worry as much about him hitting his head everywhere. VERY happy with it!!

Unfortunately, this helmet only protects the top and sides of the head. The face isn't properly shielded. We've tried incorporating a visor made of high-impact polycarbonate (available for industrial workers in various sizes) but the straps of the visor interfere with the helmet itself. Swim goggles are easier to incorporate, but leave the nose and mouth exposed. (The smallest-size motorcycle helmets are still too large and too heavy. We've tried them.)

The rest of the child's body is also a problem. I know this helmet isn't trying to address this, but it's worth noting that this is only one part of a full protection approach. Our system of pillows, towels and duct tape works pretty well, but is too warm in hot weather. I'd love to see a full-body suit that breathes.

I bought the Thudguard for my 7 month old foster daugther. We have very hard unforgiving floors. Within minutes of putting on the Thudguard she pulled herself up on a tall stool and fell back from a standing position smacking her head on the ground and pulling the stool on top of herself. She cried briefly, but when I took off the Thudguard to check her head there was no evidence of her fall. She is a very active baby and has taken many other falls and each time the Thudguard has prevented injury. It fits well and is easy to put on and off. Well made and easy to clean. When it is hot her head can get sweaty.

If your child has any intelligence they will undo the Velcro strap in 30 seconds or less. Great idea, helmet is otherwise perfect, just the Velcro strap was a poor choice. I will be sending ours back immediately. It's amazing to me that someone could go so far in the design and production process and not see this utterly defeating design flaw.

It does work well, or as described by the seller, but it makes my son's hair look like he just got out of shower. There is NO ventilation at all for the head so he can not keep it in his head for more then 20-30 minutes at a time. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars

I bought this to protect my son's head because we have hardwood floors and he'd constantly roll around and hit his head on the floors. At 4 months he'd always take if off, I could never get him to keep it on. I felt it was a waste of money, if he could've kept it on, I would have liked it better.

I would have rated the helmet with 5 stars, but my little guy perspires quite a bit and that makes it uncomfortable for him. Still, I'm glad I bought it and I'll keep using it (but for short periods of time).
