Thug Holiday,
By SID "Punk" (BOSTON) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thug Holiday (Audio CD)
This must be the week for thugs getting right with God. Like Dirty South godfather Scarface (who shows up here on "Gangsta"), Trick Daddy does indeed take a holiday of sorts from thuggery on his latest release. He once again enlists a children's choir, a la past tunes "I'm A Thug" and "Amerika," to ponder his blessings on the gospel-edged "God Been Good," and prays on the title track for gangstas not strong enough to make it in the streets, with an assist from Xscape's Latocha Scott. Yet while his tunes have come a long way from the tuneless Miami shout-outs of yore--the soulful single "In Da Wind," featuring a scene-stealing cameo from Cee-Lo, being a prime example--Thug Holiday still falls back on lyrical and musical cliches a bit too often to make it stand out in the increasingly inventive southern hip-hop landscape.

Trick is still bad,
By LickemLow (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews

Most people are just now catchin on to this dude, but hes been around for awhile now. i got every one of his CD's, and theyre all bad. Most people who review this would say ohh dang this CD is good, but they dont know anything. If you like Trick ad Scarface, youll like this CD. All his beats are tight like usual, and his lyrics are all real unlike 80% of other rappers. If you like down south stuff this is a CD to get. Most people who listen to Trick Daddy have only been listening to him since Thugs R Us or Chapter AK Verse 47. But for those who knew him back when his name was trick daddy dollars, you know his style will never change. He hasnt become a half R&B rapper like Ja Rule, Nelly, or others and his music will always be hard. Get this CD if you know anything about Southern music.

Decent For A "Thug" Album,
This review is from: Thug Holiday (Audio CD)
While I'm not a real big Trick Daddy fan, I went ahead and bought this album for the single "In Da Wind". I can't say this is bad, but I can't say this is good either. Songs like "Ain't No Santa", "All I Need", and "Thug Holiday" are nice stand out songs, but the album in general is worth passing. Don't get me wrong, if your a big Trick Daddy fan then you'll probably love it. But this record just doesn't work for me.

Nice...,

I've always been a supporter of Trick Daddy even though I don't buy alot of his records. I think besides Outkast he's the most unique in the South right now. On the title track, TD talks politics and as you can see in the video, he talks about 2Pac and Biggie's beef when he says("oh no there's more, yeah two world wars"). I didn't know he was talking bout the East/West beef when I first heard it but after I saw the video I realized he was. Another favorite of mine is "Rain It Pours", a good hood song. The party tracks are a good listen to. "In Da Wind", "I'm A Thug", and "Play No Games" are all tight songs, but one of my favorites is "Ain't No Santa". The reason I gave this album a four is cuz there is a little filler on this. But if you skip past those songs, you get a good hood album and one of Trick's best.

TRICK DADDY'S BEST ALBUM SINCE ''BASED ON A TRUE STORY'',
By MICHAEL TAYLOR "SNAKEFIST2" (RICHMOND, VA USA) - See all my reviews

THIS IS TRICK'S BEST CD SINCE ''BASED ON A TRUE STORY''. ON THIS ALBUM, TRICK DOES SOME OF THE BEST TRACKS HE'S DONE IN YEARS. THE BEST TRAKCS ARE ''ROCK N ROLL N***A'', ''IN DA WIND'' [THE REMIX], ''GANGSTA'', AND ''MONEY & DRUGS''. ASIDE FROM ''BASED ON A TRUE STORY'', THIS IS THE TRICK DADDY CD YOU HAVE TO OWN.

ok, tricks first cd ... had some tight joints like "Nanh", his second cd had that good joint, and his third cd, "Thugs R Us" had TAKE IT TO DA HOUSE and I'M A THUG which were both good so what happened? When i heard IN DA WIND i thought even though i hated there might be some tight tracks on it, at least enough to be worth the $19.99 i paid for it. well, it wasn't...

I am probably an unusual new fan to Trick Daddy, since I come from the electronica camp (DJ Icey, Chemical Brothers, etc.) but since moving to the Bay Area and jamming to the 94.9 beats, I thought on a whim to give this CD a spin at one of those convenient listening stations. Right off I recognized "In Da Wind" as one of my all time favs from this year. Before this I could not have told you who the artist was for a million dollars. The samples sounded unusually rich and fun so I figured I would give it a try. This is the first black music album I have purchased since back in the old early 80's with Sugerhill. First for me is sound and this CD completely delivers. The lyrics of rap can be downright annoying to me when they are inane, and especially exacerbating when they mask an otherwise excellent bounce. Well let me assure you that the Trick Daddy vocals on this album have that newer rhythm I am hearing in the music the past couple of years that is fun and musical rather than just boastful and mindless. Totally tight and delivering in a fun albeit aggressive way. This is seriously fun music. Looses it's steam after the first six tracks, but those are great!! I love my alpine stereo system and this CD is going to stay amped up for months to come. Now I just hope I can add a few more winners from the rap market and avoid the one hit wonders =)

Another TDD Classic!,

This is one of the better TDD CD's I've heard. My boyfried is a HUGE fan and got me hooked onto this music. Now, I am a HUGE TDD fan myself. Thug Holiday includes some definite TDD Classics and is sure to please any Southern Rap fan. It is not for the faint at heart, so buyer beware. It is, however, a great CD with wonderful topics discussed and great songs to thump.

Havent Heard,

I havent heard much of Trick Daddy's music but it was okay. This album was fairly decent and displayed some down south talent, he is not the typical ATL rapper but does sound similiar to them every once in awhile. I checked out this album because of the hit from last album "Im a Thug", however, nothing really catchy, nothing brings down the album.Lyrics: B |
