Book Description

August 29, 2006
“Have you ever wanted something so bad you was willing to crawl over bodies to get it? I mean, fiend for it so hard it didn’t matter who you hurt, how low you had to scrape, it was gonna be yours? That’s what music and balling did for me. They were the fundamentals behind my rise . . . and the perpetrators of my fall. They called me Harlem’s black prince–a rising star who carried street dreams on his back. But the streets, ya know. They got a way of coming for theirs. A method of sneaking up on you when you ain’t looking . . .”

Andre “Thug-A-Licious” Williams came up on Harlem’s meanest streets. But thanks to his nearly ankle-breaking hoop moves and explosive mic skills, he makes it out–and dominates the rap scene with chart-topping urban hits.

Thug has sexed all the hottest freaks and has a slew of baby mamas to show for it. But no matter how many women he takes to his bed, only one can claim his heart: successful beauty salon owner Carmiesha “Lil Muddah” Vernoy, his ride-or-die queen who has stuck by his side and guarded his back through thick and thin.

But Thug also has a nightmarish history with someone else. Pimp Williams, his older cousin and ex—partner in crime, is a cold-blooded killer who spreads havoc all over Harlem and will stop at nothing to get what he wants–even if it means betraying his own family, crushing Carmiesha, and forcing Harlem’s black prince down to his knees and back to his bloody beginnings.

“Urban erotica has never been hotter!”
–Nikki Turner, author of Riding Dirty on I-95

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Following street lit sensation Candy Licker, Noire returns to gangsta Harlem to tell the tale of Andre "Thug-a-Licious" Williams, a "Dawg-4-Lyfe" whose death is announced in the preface and whose life unfurls in a series of dark, stop-start flashbacks. At the time of his death, Dre, or Thug, was, improbably, "the baddest NBA rookie in the league," who was, at the same time, a rapper with a "club-banging album with triple platinum potential." Noire doesn't show us much of Thug's practice on the court or time in the studio (though a number of his rhymes are strewn through the narrative): the action is concentrated on his dick (which is big) and his exploits (nine children by nine different mothers by page 257, along with herpes). Through it all, Dre loves Carmiesha "Muddah" Vernoy, with whom he's hoping to settle down. He shields her from his criminal activity with cousins Pimp and Smoove (Carl and Todd Williams). It's Pimp who does the worst of it, and who also does time in jail while Thug accepts a basketball scholarship to Syracuse. Meanwhile, Muddah, who has gone to college and started her own beauty salon, Locks of Love, is keeping a secret that will eventually catch up with her and with Thug. The plot sputters, and the lives of all concerned are unrelentingly grim, but the sex really is hot. (On sale Aug. 29)

From Booklist

Andre Williams, aka Thug-A-Licious, is a Harlem boy determined to make good relying on his talent and ambition. He and his cousins Carl, aka Pimp-A-Licious, and Todd, aka Smooth-A-Licious, were nicknamed by their Puerto Rican grandmother and raised by his unpredictable mother. Performing as a rap trio, they became known and revered as the Licious Lovers. After living in the streets and participating in illegal activities, he escapes his unstable lifestyle by attending Syracuse University on a basketball scholarship. His dreams become reality when he is drafted in the first round by the New York Knicks. By age 25, Andre is making millions as a starting NBA rookie with a chart-topping rap song and number-one video. He is also an eligible bachelor and father of nine children but in love with the only woman to have his heart, Carmeshia. On the eve of the play-offs and after a short life of living for the moment, loving and leaving women, he finally has to pay for his past sins, and Carmeshia retaliates for his demise. Lillian Lewis

5.0 out of 5 stars Urban Erotica At Its Finest!!!!, August 29, 2006
This review is from: Thug-A-Licious (Paperback)
Andre "Thug-A-Licious" Williams struggled to survive on the mean streets of Harlem. He makes it out of the hood thanks to his fierce basketball and mic skills. Thug explodes on the rap scene with chart-topping hits and becomes one of the most sought after rookies in the NBA. But everything isn't all peaches and cream for Thug. The shady past that he ran away from could come back to haunt him. Thug's weakness for women leaves him with a list of baby mamas and children to provide for. Out of all the women he's had in his bed, Thug's heart belongs to one woman: Carmeisha "Lil Muddah" Vernoy. Carmeisha is a successful beauty salon owner who has been by Thug's side from the beginning. But Thug's many flings with other women may take its toll on Carmeisha. She also has to deal with a tragic and devastating secret from her past that not even Thug knows about. Thug's older cousin Pimp Williams is his former partner-in-crime and a cold-blooded killer. Pimp will stop at nothing to get what he wants even if it means betraying his own family and terrorizing Carmeisha.

Thug-A-Licious is an exhilarating page-turner by Noire. The excellent storyline and character development is what makes this novel soar. I really got a good feel for the characters. Although Thug was extremely loose with women, I still felt sympathy for him and understood the things that he did. Readers will also understand the dedication and love that Carmeisha had for Thug and especially how she dealt with the baby mama drama. The sex scenes were so hot that you'll see why Thug had so many women at his disposal. Fans of Noire's previous novels will be pleasantly surprised when characters from G-Spot and Candy Licker make brief appearances in this story. Strong credible characters, wonderful storyline delivery, and salivating sex scenes makes this Noire's best novel. Thug-A-Licious is simply urban erotica at its finest..

3.0 out of 5 stars More Than a Title, November 21, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Thug-A-Licious (Paperback)
In Noire's third installment in the urban erotica genre, Thug-A-Licious, we meet Andre Williams aka Thug-A-Licious. He is a big balla' on the courts and a force to be reckoned with on the rap scene. Although he fathers nine children by eight different women, only one woman has his heart, beauty salon owner Carmiesha "Lil Muddah" Vernoy and he has a forever bond with his two cousins, Todd "Smooth-A-Licious" Williams and Carl "Pimp-A-Licious" Williams. With all of those things going for him, he is still a thug with a past that haunts him. He knows better than anyone that when you establish a debt with the streets it will come for its pay .

Thug-A-Licious surprised me by being a good solid read. It was captivating and moved at an even steady pace. The characters were interesting and the choices they would make stayed true to how they were presented. While Andre's characterization of a male whore was played out extensively, his basketball and rap skills were secondary. They were more or less referenced rather than experienced. Carmiesha was shown to be loyal and generous, but far from perfect, hiding a secret I was not sure how she held. Nonetheless her character had me rooting for whatever it was she wanted. However it was "Pimp" who seemed to be Noire's calling card in the novel--the sadistic, cruel, soulless creature at whose hands everyone seemed to suffer. He was the catalyst that put all the characters between a rock and a hard place.

Having read both Candylicker and G-Spot, the differences between Pimp and Hurricane from Candylicker and G from G-Spot, Noire did not paint Pimp as gratuituous and sadistic as the others. He was shown to be all the things I described without me having to put the book down to rest from his cruel habits. She also was able to tap into the superstition of "bad blood" verses environment when we meet Pimp's son, Jahlil.

The resolution of this novel was unexpected. Although I honestly cannot figure out how else it could have ended, for me it was a bit anti-climactic. Also as I speak on Noire's prior novels I appreciate her nods in Thug-A-Licious to things that happened in the other books. A person who has read all of them will appreciate that.

As I get older I grow weary of this genre, however Thug-A-Licious is one of the better ones I have read. Noire's storytelling in this genre is getting better and I will probably read her next installment in urban erotica.

This review is from: Thug-A-Licious (Paperback)
It was very disappointing.... Pimp should have died @ the beginning... and that boy Jahlil.. i just don't believe a person can come out being bad like that.. i think Noire dropped the ball on this one.
