Absolute Classic,
By Makaveli96 (Torrance, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thug Life: Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Don't let the number of tracks on this album fool you. There's absolutely no filler here. The whole album is great from start to finish. My favorites are Bury Me a G, Pour Out a Little Liquor, and Str8 Ballin'. How Long Will They Mourn Me is also really good. This album has some of my favorite Tupac songs. Tupac is on eight of the ten songs, but the two he's not on, Don't Get It Twisted and Street Fame, are pretty good. Tupac raps solo in Pour Out a Little Liquor and Str8 Ballin'. This album is one reason why I love rap. The lyrics and beats are timeless. This is one of Pac's best albums even though it's been slepped on. The Thug Life crew is pretty good, with Mopreme being my favorite (if you don't count Pac). Songs like Bury Me a G and Str8 Ballin' remind me why Tupac is my favorite lyricist and MC. His Death Row period had a lot of good songs, but nothing can beat his work from 1994-95, with the mellow beats and lyrics from a stressed out Tupac. This is one of my all time favorite albums. I put it up there with Illmatic and The Infamous. Actually I like it better than those two. No current rap album even comes close to the beats on this album. The samples are so interesting and along with Pac's brilliant lyrics you will never get tired of this album. I like albums that have around 10-12 songs with no stupid skits and no filler. This is a prime example of that. Bury Me a G has one of the best choruses by Tupac ever. Str8 Ballin' has a beat that will be stuck in your head for days. Pour Out a Little Liquor will have you reminiscing about the old days. How Long Will They Mourn Me will have you captivated by Pac's lyrics and Nate Dogg's sorrowful chorus. Tupac spills his heart on here. Cop this CD now!

This is one of pac's best albums by far.....all of his stuff deserves at least a million stars...but this stuff is str8ght up the best you've ever heard. I luv every single cd from the newest all the way down to 2pacalypseNow, but my honest opinion is that you will not waste your $ if you buy this cd. It's a close second best to Me Against the World, and although this is his most unknown cd, it is still one of his bests. Every track tells a different story with Bury me a G, Pour out a little Liquor, Stay True, How Long Will They Mourn Me, Cradle to the Grave, and Str8 ballin standing out above the rest. A little more of an oldschool taste on this cd, but plenty of dope beats to keep the interested 2pac fan in a frenzy.

Two Words: A CLASSIC,
By NS (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thug Life: Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
I am very glad I bought this album. The first time I ever saw it was a while ago and I saw that it only had 10 tracks. That kind of turned me away right away. Then I started listening to these tracks, and they quickly pulled me in. What I don't understand is why everyone thinks "Vol. 1" is a 2Pac album. It is not a Tupac album, it is a Thug Life album. Along with Tupac, these other guys have great voices and lyrics. Syke has a deep, kind of raspy voice, Mopreme, who is Pac's brother, has a kind of twang to his voice, Macadoshis has a booming voice and excellent lyrics, and Rated R has a kind of lispy raspy voice that is excellent. These five combine to make one of the greatest rap groups of all time. Every track on this cd is excellent, with my favorites being "Don't Get It Twisted", "Pour Out A Little Liquor", "It Don't Stop", "Stay True", "Bury Me A G", and "Cradle to the Grave". However, every song is good. Don't pass on this just because it only has ten tracks. It is a shame that this cd was not as popular as it could have been, for it is better than most of 2Pac's other material. I wish Vol. 2 could have been released before the front man of this 5 died. But if you have any doubts of this cd, remember: Buying a cd with 10 tracks that are all CLASSIC is better than buying a double disc cd with 27 songs with only 2 or 3 classic songs maybe 6 good songs. I definately advise you to get this album!

Thug Life - Where Ya At?,
By RapSuperstar "Lorenzo" (New Jersey) - See all my reviews

Thug Life was Pac's clique besides the Outlawz. This group includes many talented underated rappers such as Macadoshis, Big Syke, The Rated R and Mopreme (Pac's halfbrother). This 10 track realease is a good one, definitely recommended for your rap collection, especially if you're a 2Pac fan, and like old school. 10 tracks. No skits. Just pure hip-hop! Lyrically they tell you ghetto stories and shows how they made it through their life and life on the streets is. Best song is "Pour Out A Little Liquor" where 'Pac does a solo and gives it out for his lost ones. Touching song and a true classic. Besides that you get very much non commerical music which is also one of the reasons I love this record. Pure Hip-Hop! Production is handled mostly by Johnny J himself, and Warren G produces a joint. Other highlights is Bury Me A G, S*** Don't Stop, Under Pressure, How Long Will They Mourn Me, Str8 Ballin, Stay True and Cradle to the Grave. This might be 2Pac's most underated project in his career, for the fact that it's a group album, but still a great one. Everybody here gives it up, but where they at? Mopreme had a hard-to-find album out, Syke has some joints out, but Macadoshis and Rated R are totally gone. The blend of the rappers styles is perfect. It's all in the mix on this "str8 from the street" record. Get a copy for yourself. Not only do you get to hear 2Pac, but a whole group of young and hungry rappers back in '94 of course. It's Thug Life.

Thug Life Baby!!!,

This CD is amazing, Thug Life is definitely one of the geatest rap groups of all time. The group consists of Syke, Macadoshis, Mopreme, The Rated R, and of course 2pac! Every song is outstanding these guys are for real. Some people complain that there's not enough songs, but that's because there's no filler, no skits, just 10 great tracks which is plenty. All the songs have hardcore bangin' beats that go perfect with the group's hardcore rapping style. Any 2pac fan should definitely have this album, but don't sleep on the other members they're all sick. My favorite song on this album is "Pour Out a Litte Liquor" a solo track by 2pac which is one of his best songs ever. Any true Hip-Hop fan will not be dissapointed by this great album.

Thug Life Volume 1,
This review is from: Thug Life: Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Thug Life (Tupac, Big Syke, Macadoshis, Rated R, Mopreme) released there only album Thug Life Volume One in 1994. Tupac who had two solo albums under his belt at this point led the group, and would appear on nine of the ten tracks. Big Syke taught Pac about the streets and Pac taught Syke how to rap. Morpeme aka Komani (Maurice Harding) is Pacs half brother and made his musical debut on Tony! Toni! Toné!'s "Feels Good". Guest appearances include Y.N.V. and Nate Dogg. Album starts off with "Bury Me A G" and has background vocals from the Isley Brothers, an ill track and crazy beats that continue all through the album. "Dont get it Twisted" is the only track without pacs presence, and its a good one, Morpeme,Rated R and Macadoshis lay nice verses to sick background beats. "Pour Out a Little Liquour" is the albums first single, and is my favourite track on the album. Another nice track in "Stay True" followsand Tupac and Mopreme stand out the most on this one. "How Long will they mourn me" was made for Big Sykes lost friend "Kato" and Big Syke drops deep and memorable lyrics, Nate Dogs vocals work perfectly with this track. "Cradle to the Crave" and "Str8 Ballin'" are powerfull tracks and close the album well. Its too bad that Thug Life never got a chance to make more music toghther, because "Thug Life Volume 1" is an amazing album, and things would only be bound to get better. Anyone with misconception that its solely a Pac album, only needs to pop it in, and listen to four other artists dropping ill music. Album was meant to be longer but Interscope cut out alot of the tracks saying they were too "hardcore" and did not think they would be marketable. The ten tracks that make up this album however make it a classic not to missed.
