5.0 out of 5 stars Comes With that Fire...
So I've listened to a fair amount of Christian rappers. You have T-Bone and GRITS who have a lot of skill, Cross Movement with a great message, KJ-52 and John Reuben with a bit less emphasis on thug life. They have all sorts of elements that I like, but they all have something they lack, at least in my eyes. T-Bone is good, but I don't like his "I'm the best rapper ever...

1.0 out of 5 stars Average MC at best
This CD is average at best. I wouldn't recommend it to the average hip-hop fan as I feel the CD is lacking in the beats compartment, as well as overall quality, and lyrical flow in general. It you want to listen to quality christian rap I would recommend that you look at the 1-1-6 clique's 13 letters CD, Lecrae, Flame, Trip Lee, or Da TRUTH. As all of these rappers really...

5.0 out of 5 stars Comes With that Fire..., June 11, 2006
This review is from: Thug Love (Audio CD)
So I've listened to a fair amount of Christian rappers. You have T-Bone and GRITS who have a lot of skill, Cross Movement with a great message, KJ-52 and John Reuben with a bit less emphasis on thug life. They have all sorts of elements that I like, but they all have something they lack, at least in my eyes. T-Bone is good, but I don't like his "I'm the best rapper ever and I'm rich and if you believe in Jesus you'll be rich too" lyrics. The Cross Movement drops impressive lyrics, but often the beats can run together. KJ and JReu have shining moments, but often they get lost in filler.

Now meet Pettidee, easily the best mix of talent and message to date.

Yes, Thug Love has bad album art. But the 13 tracks inside the case are impressive. Thick, pulsating, "dirtysouth" bass underneath some catchy beats. A very distinct voice giving a great, honest message. Pettidee says it right towards the end of the album: He's just sharing his heart and what Christ did for him. He's not giving sermons with his lyrics but he's not glossing over anything about who he is.

The album has a nice mix of songs that could go in a club, songs that encourage, and songs that just narrate his life. Some are fast songs, some are slow songs. But the production is excellent (Trust me on this one, I cranked it today on a huge sound system and it still sounded great), and there are no tracks that I skip because I don't like them.

I've had this album for over a month now and I still feel the same about it: It's really good, and I would go as far as to say that it's the best rap album in my collection to date. Keep it coming, Petti!

Great CD, horrible cover art, but great music.
If you've never heard of Pettidee before then you should get acquainted because with Nominations for best album (Grits' Dichotomy A & B Which Pettidee produced) in the Grammy's, the GMA's and the Dove awards and a nomination for best solo live performance in the Sphere of Hip-Hop awards, Pettidee will be around for a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful "dirty south" style rap, July 31, 2006
This review is from: Thug Love (Audio CD)
If you like "dirty south" style rap (i.e. David Banner) then you will love this album. Pettidee sounds very much like David Banner and really presents a deep Christian message in his lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hardcore gangsta style with smooth flowing lyrics..., November 26, 2011

I was already impressed with the uniqueness of Pettidee when I first heard him on Grits' album on the song "I be..."

His stature and rap demeanor is a perfect and much needed example of a christ centered 'thug'. He doesn't spend his time cussin, using derogatory phrases, sexual references...etc. He tells a story, speaks of God's love; His love for God; His passion and desire for those to know God...and the realness of thug life as any other mainstream rapper has lived through. I am by no means a 'thug', recovered gangsta or the like (respectfully speaking), but I've known enough people that lived through it or listen to the stories of many people...I understand the life whether I've lived it or not. And the funny thing is, if rap isn't poetic as it is, Pettidee and his fellow rappers speak poetically about life that I can still empathize with, or relate to rather. We've all suffered and went through trials and celebrations of all kinds.

Rappers, namely those that are Christ-centered and now righteous in spirit, speak a beautiful language through an artsy craft that communicates a raw and uncut message to the heart. I applaud Pettidee and many others for their perserverance and faithfulness.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite Albums, October 13, 2007
This review is from: Thug Love (Audio CD)
With Pettidee, he's on of those artists where you either love him or hate him. With this album, I saw Pettidee step it up. Before, he had one maybe 2 songs that I liked and I wasn't really a fan. But he took it to a new level when he released this album. The beats are awesome and he has great lyrics that have an awesome message. But as I said, u either love him or hate him.

I was very surprised by the quailty this CD was made with. The production was top notch. This is one of those CDs you can listen straight through without skipping songs. I listen to other good Christian rappers like Lecrae, Trip Lee, T-dot, Flame, but this CD tops all those. I'm going to have to say this is my new favorite rap CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gospel rap, December 11, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Thug Love (Audio CD)
I just bought this cd on Friday and i must say it is by far one of the best gospel albums i have ever heard. Pettidee's rhymes and beats are raw and i can easily compare him to secular rap artists like David Banner,Trick Daddy, or Bun B. I love all the tracks but especially #1 and #7. Go cop this album!
