3.0 out of 5 stars A few songs so good its worth it
Listen most kats are rite, alot of filler, but in my humble opinion theres bout 8 supertight songs that make it all worth it. Truth be told, none of it is weak or commercial, it just becomes uneventful. Its like you here some really good songs at the begining and u keep expecting the brilliance to resurface soon. Almost a nailbiting suspense. You kan here it all starting to kome together but it never really gets there on alot of the tracks. Some are just plain not even listenable. I can normally listen to anything as long as its not weak or corny, but here Yuk manages to get me to never ever listen to those songs I dont like.
However whats hot is hot! Most of the good stuff is unbelieveable! Allow me to put it into persektive, kause thats all it is is a matter of perspektive. If u are down with Rap-A-Lot and their theme, kop it.Forget what u heard, you will be glad you were got the chance to hear the good stuff. The Regime is off the chain here. Thug Lordz...betta believe it!! Man quit reading reviews now and kop a used copy if u must. Quit B.Sing, hound!!

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 star double disc, December 3, 2004
By
This review is from: Thugged Out: Albulation (Audio CD)
Yukmouth delivers a 27 songs double disc for the fans. An "albulation" it has many songs featuring other guests, only 8 are just Yuk himself. Most of the production is average (Mike Dean - 15 songs: Mr. lee - 7 songs: Don Juan - 4 songs: and one by Tone Capone). A lot of the beats don't match Yuk's earlier beats when he was with the Luniz, hence they aren't as good (surprisingly since Mike Dean & Mr. Lee usually have good beats). Overall it could have been one solid 15 or 16 song album. I skip about 8 of the songs on here, and about 8 more of them are ok, the remaining 10 or 11 are good songs. It has no classsic song on here weither. If you are a fan then I'd recommend it otherwise I probably wouldn't get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yukmouth drops a quality double solo album!, August 19, 2004

While not exactly a household name or an artist who gets regular mention on MTV, Yukmouth, who makes up one-half of the Luniz actually has one of the better followings amongst Bay area rappers. Yuk is in the unique company of Bay area talents like E-40 and Spice-1 whose names may ring a bell with the casual rap fan even if they don't know why. Yukmouth's first solo album was particulary ambitious as he chose to release a "double album", a move that is risky even for longtime veterans. A lot can go wrong on a double album (see Jay-Z's "The Blueprint 2" as a reference) but every now and again, you've got an artist who can manage to hit his loyal fans upside the head with two solid discs of quality material.

After examining "The Albulation" for over a year, I can say one thing: It is certainly in select company as far as double albums go. Yukmouth manages to make an album that stays true to his roots in the "gangsta rap" genre but also dips into other more laid-back influences for a sound that manages to compliment a crossover style without irritating his fanbase. This is most noticeable with "Ice Cream", a track that is essentially a drug dealer's anthem but is packaged with such a cool little chorus that even them TRL'ers may get infected by it. His numerous collabos with Tech N9ne on the album make for some interesting music as well. When the two hook up with N.W.A. veteran, MC Ren, on "Stallion", it makes for something special. His tribute to his late parents, "Sacrifice My Life" is another solid highlight where Yuk shows he is deeper than you might think.

Not every track on "Thugged Out" is a homerun though. Yuk does get a little too caught up in doing songs for the "ballers" (three of them have the word in their title) and his tales of murder and drug-trafficking may become played out to those looking for a bit more substance in their rap. The Outlaw-guested "Do Yo Thug Thang" is a bit too simple for my taste and despite having an all-star cast, "Rap-A-Lot Mafia" takes some time to grown on you. "My Buddy" featuring Daz & Kurupt of the Dogg Pound is decent but given the talent invovled, I was expecting a bit more.

Aside from two or three average tracks, "Thugged Out: The Albulation" is a nice collection of heaters from a very underrated rapper. If given the right exposure, this one could have had quite an impact. Next to Pac's "All Eyez On Me" and Big's "Life After Death", this is probably one of the best two-disc albums ever produced. This is impressive given the fact that this is Yukmouth's first official solo album. If you've heard the name "Yukmouth" before and want to know what all the hype is about, go cop this one.

Thugged Out:The Albulation is one of the best debut solo joints I have heard in a minute. Yuk comes strong, on deep tracks like "Still Ballin" a blazin tribute to 2pac,"Revelations","Falling"/f Do or Die,& "U Love 2 Hate". Lyrically Yukmouth proves he is one of the best in te west. If you question that listen to tracks like "Do Yo Thug Thang"/f The Outlawz, "R.A.L.Mafia"/f Scarface, Do or Die,Tech9ine,Tela,ect..,"Bumbell"/f Tech9ine,"My Buddy"/f Daz,Kurupt,& "Godzilla". Yukmouth puts his entire life into this album and dont hold back no punches. This album is for anyone who appreciates real hip hip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Regime Killaz, July 11, 2000

Yukmouth released a "Classic" cd here in early 99, it's not too often that I put a classic stamp on an album this early in it's release but I just have too!Everyone needs to pick this cd up cause it is off the hanger! He's got the mintest voice, and he enlists the best guest stars such as The Regime (TechN9ne,Phats Bossi,Gonzoe,Lil'Keke,MadMaxx & Poppa LQ) who need to release an album like now!The Outlawz;tight as ever. His Luniz pal Numskull, MC Ren one of the greatest ever,Daz Dillinger & Kurupt!DMG the most promising Rap A Lot member, Scarface, Willie D,Snypaz,5th Ward Boyz,Tela & Do Or Die. This is just one of the best albums i own, and it's very little known by the public but that's gotta change!

My favorite song on here is "Bumbell" The Beat is Just HOT! and Tech N9ne straight rips it up as usual!I gotta get his albums. Bum Bum! "Thugged Out" w/Regime is just as tight cause Tech N9ne shines so brightly again and the Regime is just tight! "Do Yo Thug Thang" w/Outlawz, "Stallion" w/MC Ren & Tech N9ne (again),"Ice Cream Man"w/5th Ward Boyz, "It's In My Blood Part II"w/DMG, "My Buddy"w/Daz,Kurupt & Numskull, "Still Ballin'", "Rolex Rulez", "Ridaz"w/DMG, "RAL Mafia" w/Lots of Rap A Lot Guests,"Sad Millionaire"w/Phats Bossi, "U Love To Hate" & "City Of Dope" Are the tightest songs, but to tell you the truth the whole album is just The best, it packs the most hit songs out of any album i own i think, besides maybe All Eyez On Me or something..but Yukmouth released a Masterpiece here, and I hope "Thug Lord"comes out soon, cause this guy is awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album of '99 so far, April 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Thugged Out: Albulation (Audio CD)
This album is packed full of tight beats, smoothe lyrics, and that rap-a-lot quality that I have come to expect from Lil J, Scarface, and all the others on the roster. DMG makes many appearances and shines through out, and the track featuring the Outlaws is super tight, and of course Face and the Boys bring it all together on one of those rap-a-lot compilation songs reminisent to the days of "Bring it on" from the older Geto Boys music. For thoes looking for something to dance to, DON'T buy this album. It's not dance, it's gangster rap in it's highest form, people tend to forget that. There is a big difference between Puff Daddy/Busta Rhymes type hip hop, and real hardcore rap like exhibited by Yukmouth and the boys. This album is better then the previous Luniz albums, and the fact that it's a double disc, makes it worth the money. If you liked the Luniz, you should LOVE this album, Thugged Out is a break out disc for Yuk.

3.0 out of 5 stars I expected a better album from Yuk, September 5, 2001

Yukmouth album "Thugged Out: the albulation" is a slight disappointment to me after Luniz "Operation stackola". Listen! I read peoples saying 'This album is the bomb' and something like that and also read peoples saying 'This album not worth buying it' but for real, I think, this album is an average gangsta-rap stuff. There's good songs and weak songs on it. I think the good songs is: "Godzilla", "Thugged Out", "Still ballin'", "Revelation", "Extortion", "RAL mafia" and "Bumbell" (with the extraordinary rhyme thrower Tech N9ne. And there's songs that should'a never leave the studio like "Machin vs. pimpin", "Baller mode" and "Menage A Trois". And also there's songs that is like a regular gangsta-hyped WestCoast thugs sh*t. I think Yuk and Num should'a hook up again!!! The Luniz was tight (but not their 2nd album)!!! O-A-K should'a back up on the map!! Yuk is a talent, no doubt, but GET OFF RAP-A-LOT!!!! Told: 3-stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bay Area Classic??, September 18, 2007
This review is from: Thugged Out: Albulation (Audio CD)
Of course when people discuss double cd's no one will bring up this album. It is not nothing new and Yukmouth is not the best rapper. But for pure HipHoptainment u should own this album. I like it, because Yukmouth did not try to hold it down by himself. He has a lot of guest appearances on these cd's, which most of times back fires on artist; but it worked for Yuk. Rap-a-Lot and the west coast are deep on this album.

Buy it and give it a listen, it will not grab u on the first listen but it gets better. In my opinion this is his best album. Hotep.
