Product Description

Product Description

Provides maximum loading flexibility, superior carrying capability and sleek, stylish appearance through its patented Multi-Height™ Load Bars, 6000 Grade Aluminum Design and Dual-Slot Reinforced Bars.

Amazon.com

Maximize the space in your truck bed with the Thule Xsporter multi-height truck rack. In the low position, the Xsporter makes for easy loading and unloading of bikes, skis, and other gear. However, you can also raise the height of the load bars until they're even with the cab, letting you haul canoes, kayaks, and other small watercraft. Best of all, the durable aluminum frame leaves the truck bed open for storage, so you can still fit coolers, bags, and other gear in the back when driving long distances. The Xsporter--which includes a One Key lock system to secure your gear--is equipped with 71-inch crossbars and carries a lifetime warranty.

I scoured the internet for reviews of this product before I purchased it and feel compelled to share my impressions. I'm using the rack on a 2008 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab, and prior to installation, I had to remove the Utilitrack rails along the sides of my truckbed. Thule makes an adapter for use with Toyota's cargo management system, but there's no such product for use with Nissan's system. Removal was easy enough and I don't think I'll miss the Utilitrack rails that much, but it's something to consider if you own a Nissan with a Utilitrack system. The Utilitrack rail near the cab of the truck and the two rails in the floor of the bed do not have to be removed in order to install the Thule rack.

There are five "notches" on the vertical uprights used to secure the rack in place as you move it up and down. This means there are potentially five different height positions. I say "potentially" because in the Frontier there is a wheel well protrusion in the bed of the truck just behind the cab that only permits the portion of the rack closest to the cab to be lowered to the middle notch. At this level, the horizontal bars are a few inches below the top of the cab. The portion of the rack near the end of the truck can be lowered an additional notch, but if you try to utilize the lowest notch, the bottom of the upright will hit the bed of the truck. I don't really view this as a negative because the advantage of keeping the rack in the middle notch position on my vehicle is the horizontal bars are not in my line of sight when looking in my rearview mirror. My point is you shouldn't necessarily assume you'll be able to utilize all of the height positions, although I'm sure it's possible in some trucks.

I'm totally happy with this purchase.

I installed the rack in about an hour and a half, using a 17mm socket and wrench. I didn't use the conversion kit, because I lacked the rail bed system.

The construction on the 422XT is tough. Nothing wimpy about this setup.

My one worry was that the racks wouldn't clear my roof, but they did with ease.

Excellent product. Easy first time assembly. Can now install/remove the rack by myself in 15 minutes or less. Sturdy construction. Primarily using to carry two 12ft sit on top Kayaks. Have also used to carry lumber. Highly recommended.

This fit my 2011 F150 just fine. The rack is very well constructed and feels nice and solid once attached. I use it to carry kayaks and it fits 2 singles and one double in 'J' holders easily. It whistles in the wind pretty badly without the rubber trim (supplied) so if you plan to use the sliding end-pieces be ready for some noise. Once the rubber trim is in place the noise is negligible. A little pricey even at the Amazon price but you can't argue with the quality.

Bought this rack for my Dodge Dakota. I wanted to be able to drop or remove the cross bars when I'm not using it. Raising and lowering the bars is easy for one person.
The install was easy and did not take long. Quality workmanship which always impresses my mechanics when I have my truck serviced.
I use my rack for my canoe. But it can be used to carry many things. I can also use the posts to tie things to.
When my canoe is strapped to this there is no movement. I left the bases on over the winter and there is no rust. Still looks great!
Great rack!

Well I did the home work, read the previous reviews, and now it's time to share my thoughts on this system.

1. Super fast shipping.
2. System was extremely easy to assemble, I did quickly glance through the manual to make sure I didnot miss anything after I had it all assembled. The manual was straight forward and easy to follow, with one exception which I will cover later on.
3. It took about 2 hrs to put on my truck ( 2010 F150 super crew) but it was not because it was difficult, it was because it was pouring down rain. It can be done with a single person but an extra set of hands to hold it in place while tightening them up was very helpful, lucky for me my wife does not melt in the rain either.
Once these were in place they were very solid. The only movement was just the small space where the uprights go into the base ( very little movement )
4. I did not put the strip in this time around because the rack was only going to be on my truck for 3 days this time around. Everyone was correct when they said the channels would whistle without the weather strips and they did. I am very confident that when the rack goes back on and I use the strips that it will reduce or possibly even eliminate the whistling.

Now on to the one spot in the manual that was not real clear.
When I was picking up the boxes that is shipped in I found 4 locks and keys ( Pleasant surprise as I did not know they were included) the manual kis not very clear on how to install them, so I will clear thing up.

On the base there are levers that lock the uprights to the desired height in the center of the locking levers is a round plug that says lock. These are just pressed in place and are easily removed by pressing on the inside of the plug.
