Four Pack Lock Pack for Thule Racks and Accessories

Amazon.com

About Thule
To say that Thule’s beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Founding member Ake Skeppner sold products at windsurf competitions on the New England shoreline, exhibited the product line at a number of different trade shows, and even canvassed local retailers in the greater New York area, all from his "office"--a now-famous station wagon. Initial success was found in the small but growing sport of windsurfing where a strong, reliable roof rack was an indispensable piece of equipment. This was quickly followed by success in the ski business where Thule's Swedish heritage certainly helped the product gain rapid acceptance.

By the mid-1980s, the company sold products directly to ski and windsurfing shops but sold through distributors to address the large and growing bike business. A risky decision was made to terminate these distributor relationships and sell direct to retailers through a network of independent sales representatives. Much of the company's market success today can be traced to that decision. Shortly after, Ake hired an engineer and set up a small assembly plant in Elmsford, New York in order to design and manufacture bike carriers that would offer the features demanded by the U.S. consumer and compete effectively with other racks on the market.

The company has since grown rapidly through product innovation, a commitment to quality, and the continuance of a strong entrepreneurial spirit as well as continuing to evolve their products to meet the needs of users.

Easy to install.

I always like to buy the best quality I can afford, and though these were too much money, after comparing features, I went with them anyway.

The only complaint I'd have is that they easily pull from the housing even when using the key, not the key blank.

I installed these in the Thule Rapid Traverse Foot Pack. Installation of the locks is really easy, and while installation of these might prevent a passer-by from trying to get the Thule Foot Pack and bars off your car, they won't prevent a thief who is really out to steal your stuff from getting to it. First, to even get the Thule feet to release from your car a thief will need to have the special wrench that is used to tighten down the feet. These locks just prevent the plastic door on the outside of the foot pack from being opened. If a thief has come to steal your stuff with a Thule wrench, there is a good chance he has also brought something to cut the plastic door on the foot pack, which is not made of very thick plastic. Hence, these locks are not going to prevent your Thule gear from being stolen by a sophisticated thief. So, while they may be nice to have I do not think they are necessary, and they definitely are not cheap for four little locks.

We got these for our Thule roof racks. We park in not so great neighborhoods so I wanted the extra security. Pro: they do lock well. They come with an extra lock cylinder. Con: if you don't lock them correctly and push them in all the way they fall out so we lost one first time we drove with them on.

Overall good product. Would buy again.

Bought a 4 pack of these for my roof rack, easy to install and they keep the rack secure. The only complaint I'd have is that they easily pull from the housing even when using the key, not the key blank.

I have six of these on my rack system and they have stood up well to many seasons of year-round wear. Don't lose the blank "change" key that comes with them or you will have difficulty removing the cylinder if you change equipment. (You can always push in the last tumbler with a screwdriver to remove if you already have access to the inside of the lock.)

These allow you to easily lock your stuff to your rack and your rack to your car.

Bought the 4-pack and contrary to one of the reviews you don't get an extra. I ordered a 4-pack and got 4 cylinders, 2 keys, and another key that I don't know what to do with. Since there's no instructions, just a couple of tidbits on the box, I have no idea what that 3rd key is for. I could Google it and find out but Thule should tell me. Anyhow I bought the Aeroblade Edge bars and I can't seem to figure out what these locks will protect against.

The AeroBlade Edge is a bar with a self-contained foot to attach to your factory roof rails. They feature a rubber clamp that fits around your rail and back into the foot which is then covered by the decorative cover which is locked in place by the lock cylinder and key. A thief could do 2 things. A set of tin snips and he's through the rubber material in seconds. He takes the Aeroblade Edge bars, contacts Thule for rubber replacements and the special tightening tool and he's ready for the pawn shop or ebay or local Craigslist. TWO - he simply rips the decorative cover off to the side (it will still be hanging by the lock cylinder), takes the special tool (which he obtains from Thule) and un-loosens the rubber clamp. This would take time so he's likely to just tin snip the rubber clamp.

The only redeeming value of the cylinder is that it works better than the plastic plug that comes stock instead of locks. That darn plastic thing is a pain and sometimes doesn't seat all the way in. The cylinders set in place and locked immediately. So maybe the locks will give my rig some value in the future at resale OR I buy some other Thule product and they can be used there...

Easy installation! My only regret is I wish I ordered the 6 pack lockset so I could have both the footpack and the cargo box all keyed alike.

Thule, pronounced "too-ly" arguably makes the best overhead cargo bars, and putting a lock on them could prevent a thief from getting yours. If someone is determined to take them, the lock will only slow them down, but maybe just enough to deter them, or long enough for them to risk getting caught red-handed. These were fitted on my pair of aerodymically designed Thule bars. These bars will not whistle while you're going down the freeway, and worth the extra money you'll pay for them. Installed, aerodynamic bars and locks will set you back about $500.00 to $750.00, but you always get what you pay for. I always like to buy the best quality I can afford, and though these were too much money, after comparing features, I went with them anyway. I spent $35,000 on my Jeep, so what's another $500.00 to $750.00?
