5.0 out of 5 stars Can't live without!
We bought this to go on our Buick Rendezvuous for our trips back home to Michigan. It has went through almost 10000 miles and still looks like new. It has weathered 105 degree heat in South Dakota, a freezing snowstorm in Michigan, and one of the worse rainstorms I have ever seen in Minnesota. It has never leaked. It does take a little practice to get on correctly and...

This item works but they seem to have made it too adjustable. I'm not sure the little stickers you have to put over holes on the bottom will keep water out for long. Additionally the plastic latches seem like they will break shortly. I would much prefer some sort of metal lock down device. I've only used it once and it functioned very well.

Plus as far as...

It has weathered 105 degree heat in South Dakota, a freezing snowstorm in Michigan, and one of the worse rainstorms I have ever seen in Minnesota. It has never leaked. It does take a little practice to get on correctly and don't do it in the parking lot like my girlfriend and I did! It comes with all the tools you will need. It gives us so much more room on the inside!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to hardshell, August 8, 2008

The Ranger 90 is a great blend between a hardshell box and a soft cargo bag. I got it because I prefer having the load not resting on the roof of the vehicle. It fits perfectly and attaches easily to the factory rack of our Ford Escape. Kept our gear dry and secure in heavy rain at 70mph. At 12cf it isn't huge, but we fit most of our soft luggage for a week trip for family of 4 in it. That left room for our dog in the back of the truck. Folds up easily and quickly -- so beats a hardshell hands-down in that regard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the investment, September 8, 2008

The Ranger 90 did great on our 6.5 hr drives to/from the Outer Banks. We drove home during a tropical Storm, and the bag remained water-tight. The bag installs/uninstalls easily (even in the rain.) Easily stores in included bag.

One pice of advice: to minimize wasted space within the bag, soft sided luggage works best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combination of box and bag, July 8, 2008

We got this to give us some extra cargo space when driving my wife's Honda Fit. It's allowed us to travel from Atlanta Ga to Asheville NC with three adults, a baby, two dogs in comfort by stashing all our luggage in the cartop box. It's sturdy, well-constructed, waterproof and holds up to the battering of wind, bugs and storms, etc with no problems. Furthermore, it stores in a long thin bag so it doesn't take up huge amounts of space in my garage. Attaching it to the roof rack takes some effort, but it has a secure no-slip method of attaching and I don't feel like it has any danger of coming loose.

Wanted a storage roof rack that was easy to install and easy to store. This proved to be both. Only slight issue is getting used to packing something that is higher without a ladder but managed to do so.

Plus as far as amazon goes this item was clearly a return and the box arrived unsealed and was missing one of the tie down straps. I didn't notice the missing strap until a couple weeks after I received the item. I'm rather annoyed that Amazon would not take the time to at least tape the box shut... And I have no idea where to complain that the item was not complete...

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Hybrid Cargo Bag/Box, August 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Thule Ranger 90 Soft Cargo Bag (Sports)
Pros:

1. This product mounts to the roof rack bars and does not rest on the roof of the vehicle for those of us concerned about the vehicle's paint.
2. This product is a hybrid - bottom half is rigid plastic, top half is a heavy vinyl type material with a zipper to secure it to the plastic base. The plastic bottom folds along its length (about 4 feet long) while the vinyl top is sandwiched between to greatly reduce storage space when not in use unlike those huge all-plastic cargo boxes.
3. No tools required to mount the product to the roof rack bars. Thule designed special U-bolt retainer brackets that twist in place and are hidden inside making it more difficult for vandalism - very clean installation. Obviously since the top cover can be cut with a blade, this product is more susceptible to vandalism than a hard shell type carrier.
4. While there are carriers with more storage capacity, this product is about 4 feet in length that fits nicely on a sedan (Honda Accord in my case).

Bought this item because i thought i might be more versital... it is easy to install (put it on the car in about 10 min the first time) and very well made... i would say it doubled the cargo capacity of our vw jetta. good buy for the money. this will be used often since we just had our first child

5.0 out of 5 stars Thule 630 Ranger Luggage Carrier, January 24, 2008
This review is from: Thule Ranger 90 Soft Cargo Bag (Sports)
Well from the start I pretty much set out to try to buy the best I can especially when it comes to something carrying my luggage on a roof of a vehicle. I like the easy mounting, material, and the durability of this item. It has went over my expectations and im very pleased with this item.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, September 16, 2008
This review is from: Thule Ranger 90 Soft Cargo Bag (Sports)
Well we had been looking at various car top carriers and this one promised "the best of both worlds" of the hard top vs. soft/bag. Well the advertised 12 cubic ft is misleading. My friend has a Thule Excursion which has 13 c ft and he could fit ALOT more in that than I could with this. The problem is the zipper. You have to be very selective of the size of the items you are placing in it or you will not get the zipper to close. Also the mounting hardware takes up room inside (4 of them)-each handle sticks up inside the carrier, so it makes it harder to lay stuff flat in those areas. Also the handles are these plastic contraptions with moveable locking parts that look like they could get easily cracked, broken, etc. and I did not completely trust them for securing the rack- the plastic locks onto metal U shaped threaded bolts around the roof rack slats and it looks like those plastic threads could easily get stripped. Back with the size- forget about putting a stroller or golf bag or beach umbrellas (broken down in half) in this thing. I definately do not think it was worth the $$ and I returned mine.
