While the Thule Boxster is arguably Thule's top-of-the-line roof box, it isn't for everyone. It comes in only one size that is wider, longer, and shallower than the comparable capacity Atlantis 1800. The Atlantis series of roof boxes comes in more sizes and has every feature the Boxster has. The only extra "features" of the Boxster missing on the Atlantis line are that the Boxster is shallower and comes in a two-tone paint job. Prior to the Boxster's introduction, the Atlantis series was Thule's top-of-the-line and the introduction of the Boxster hasn't made them any less premium. The Atlantis series have all the best features on the market: attractive aerodynamic design, dual-position hinges that allow you to easily open the box from either side, a Quick-Grip system that uses highly adjustable "claws" to crank down on to the roof rack cross bars to quickly install and deinstall the box, a locking system that ensures the box is properly sealed shut before the lock will release the key, integrated straps to help tie down the cargo, and even little "pull strings" on either side to help lower the opened box back down to close. It's all packaged in a surprisingly attractive package, a far cry from the old blocky beige Sears X-cargo boxes from my youth.
It's difficult to size a roof box for a car when buying online. It's hard to imagine what the box will look like once it is on the car and returns are difficult because the boxes are large and and expensive to return ship via freight courier. It's also tempting to over-buy and get the biggest box you can. Thule's on-line sizing tools aren't much help because they'll tell you what will physically attach to your car, but won't indicate how ridiculous it will look (and non-aerodynamically it will perform) when a too-large box overhangs your windshield by two feet. When you see the Atlantis comes in 12, 16, 18, and 21 cu ft varieties, you may be tempted to think a 16 cu ft box is small, but it most definitely is not. I suggest checking the dimensions of the boxes you are considering prior to ordering and measuring on the the roof of your car with a tape measure to try to picture just how large the box will be. Of the four sizes, the 16 cu ft size is the shortest and widest of the Atlantis series. The smaller 12 cu ft box is actually 8 inches longer than the 16 cu ft one, but it's only 2/3rds as wide, designed to sit on one side of your roof so you can accommodate something else (kayak, bike, whatever) on the other side of the roof. The 16, 18, and 21 cu ft boxes are more "balanced" in terms of dimensions, intended to cover an entire roof. This 16 cu ft box is actually as wide as the largest box, the 21 cu ft.
For my purposes, the 16 cu ft was perfect for use on a mid-sized wagon. When I install it as far back as it will go while the rear hatch still opens fully, the front of the box lines up fairly closely with the windshield roof line, giving a decent "look" and reasonable aerodynamic performance. Any of the other boxes in Thule's Atlantis or Boxster line would have overhung my windshield to varying extents. Once installed, the wind noise was so quiet that I would tend to forget the box was even installed. I look forward to the many miles and years ahead with this box.

I purchased my Thule Atlantis from HumblePower for just over $500, it was delivered free to my home.
The Thule Atlantis 1600 cargo box is wonderful, and I have been surprised at how much gear I can fit in it. It fit nice on my Toyota Highlander. The road noise is minimal, and my fuel mileage is reduced by about 2mpg on the highway. The fit and construction quality are superb, a vast improvement over my old Sears X-Cargo box!

I drive a Buick Enclave and we needed something to hold our snowboard bags on a trip from OK to CO. This fit the bill perfectly! 2 Burton snowboard bags (loaded with all gear and snowboards) fit perfectly length wise and side by side in this with a little room for another very small bag. It isn't too long, it doesn't touch the XM antennae and it doesn't hang over front. It opens nicely from both sides too. We drove with this on top through winter storm Virgil for 20 hours and it held up nicely! The crosswinds were very bad at times, but the box stayed secure to the car. Our gas mileage wasn't even adversely affected! Of course, with a rooftop box you will have more wind noise, but that didn't bother us as it gave us the extra room we needed.
We used this on top and the Pro Mount hitch cargo carrier, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G4Z5J0/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with the Rage Powersports bag19.6 cubic ft. Extra Large Waterproof Vehicle Cargo Carrier Bag on top (which fit perfectly). With all of the items loaded to the max we were able to comfortably travel without a sizable difference in gas mileage.

We used it for skiing and it carried all of our skis and plus some extra stuff which really freed up some space in the back hatch area. A bonus is it matches the color of our car so it looks good, too. It does take a few off the mpg but what do expect? You can't haul and keep it the same so it was not a surprise. We're definitely glad we bought it.

Perfect for our needs. Fits both our Dodge Caravan, and our Subaru Outback. Just remember to get a size that does not obstruct the rear hatch door when open. I'm glad I did not get the larger model.

Great product. Works as advertized. Allows hatch to open all the way on Honda CRV 2007 without interference, although antenna is bent. Yakima Skybox did not fit so I had to return it locally.

I wished I had bought one of these a long time ago. Very easy to put on and take off and opens from both sides with a keyed lock. We really were able to fit a lot in it as well and really freed up space inside our car.
