A Total Disapointment,
By
This review is from: Thule 856 Nomad Rooftop Cargo Bag (Sports)
I expected much better quality from Thule. As used according to the manufacturers recomendations, this bag did not even last one trip from New York to Chicago without it's interior lining cracking and completely flaking off. In addition, the back of the bag ripped creating two large holes in the fabric and the zipper attachments became loose and proceeded to pound at the roof of my car. The contents shifted continually during travel making for a loud noise that's not unlike a pouring rain hitting the top of the car. This becomes a terrible distraction while driving. All in all I had a very bad experience with this product and would not reccomend it. Opt for one of the solid constuction type carriers, they cost much more, but are worth every penny. In the end I thought I was saving money with this product but wound up having to purchase a Sears X-Cargo container to replace it for my return trip back.

Thule 856 Nomad Rooftop Cargo Bag Review,

Purchased this product for a ski trip in Colorado. Drove 2000 miles with much of it in snow storms. Everything was dry and had no problems taking the cargo bag on and off. It fit well on my Honda Odyssey which does have side bars on top but no cross bars. I would recommend this product to others.

VEry good product,Has a lot of space, easy to mount, and keep the bags inside dry. We drove 16 hrs in one day, most ot the time it was rainning and nothing inside got wet. I recommend it.

it is very good luggage carrier to withstand the weather conditions - since i used it in the trip when i started it was raining n not drop of water could enter through it and i was worried since i had all my clothes packed in it.
it is very convient to install n uninstall with enough capacity to fit your things in it.

Great cargo bag!!,

With a family of five and a mid sized SUV to pull our trailer we needed extra cargo space. This cargo bag was the perfect solution. It holds a surprising amount, and when not in use folds up in to a little roll. We drove 9 1/2 hours to the Grand Canyon and back and had a snow storm while we were there. Everything stayed nice and dry and the bag held up perfectly. We did wish that it came with 2 extra straps to secure it to the roof rack, but other than that it is perfect.

Bought this for Spring Break run from Indiana to Florida. It held up extremely well and without leaks. Although we didn't test it with too much rain. It held 4 large duffle bags and a medium suitcase along with other things stuffed around. The closure seemed well done and the hold down straps were strong.
My only complaint is that it seemed to be missing 2 attaching straps from the bag to the car. It had 2 for attachment to the front of the bag to the front bar. But only 2 others, although there were places for 4 more attachments. I would have felt better with 2 additional straps. But nothing moved. I did notice quite a bit more wind noise, but that is to be expected. The best part is that it is now in a pack about the size of a large dictionary. I WAS thinking about a hard case, and for as little as I will use it, I believe this was certainly the correct choice. I had a hard shell case one time, and although it was great to use, it was a pain the othere 99% of the time it was packed away. I wouldn't go smaller than this one...

Unreliable construction that quickly fails,
This review is from: Thule 856 Nomad Rooftop Cargo Bag (Sports)
My first 856 Nomad practically disintegrated during the first trip. The replacement bag has begun the same process after two 11-hour trips on the interstate. The inside liner is cracking and rips are begining in the outer liner. I have been careful not to exceed the 100 lbs. limit or to overstuff it. In hard rain, the first bag did not resist water at all.
The ease of use makes this an appealing product, but I have determined it would be better to pay more for a hard cover carrier. The material of this product is not suitable for highway driving, especially if it rains.

i've owned a thule cargo bag for 10 years and it looks like the day i bought it. we use it every year to travel on vacation. i've used it in the rain and everything says clean and dry. the size of this bag is like having an extra trunk. i pack all of the linens for my family and everyone's extra footwear. you will not be sorry purchasing this bag.

I purchased the Nomad Cargo Bag for a camping trip and it performed fantastically.
it carried all of our camp chairs and collapsible table, along with our sleeping and clothes bags for a weekend in the mountains of Colorado. Was durable-no splits or tears and we had about 90-100 lbs in it. Carry handles were invaluable and included tie straps worked great also. If it were 6-8" longer this would be 6 stars, but our fly rods wouldn't fit.

We were returning from the winter in Flordia to NY. Needing more space than we had in our Pathfinder we purchased this roof top bag. It did a great job for us. It was very secure added no extra noise. I would reccomend it.
