Superior Engineering and Design
Thule snow chains are hand-made in Italy and are constructed of durable, hardened manganese nickel alloy steel. They feature dual-sided D-shaped links that provide exceptional traction and extend the life of the product. These snow chains utilize a patented self-centering and auto-tensioning system which adjusts itself for a perfect fit. Once the chains are wrapped around the tire, the installation process is completed when the vehicle is set in motion. As the wheels turn, the self-centering and auto-tensioning system activates and the chain tightens around the tire. This eliminates the need to exit your vehicle and brave the elements to re-adjust snow chains. For easier installation in the dark or during the day, all attachment points on the chains are color coded. Additionally, each set of Thule tire chains comes with a hard case, installation mat, pair of gloves, and spare links.

Thule CG-9 - Ideal for Sub-Compact Cars
While offering the same patented self-tensioning and micro-regulation solution as other Thule snow chains, the Thule CG-9 is constructed with smaller sized 9mm D-link chain. This makes it the perfect match for sub-compact cars or for vehicles with limited space between the wheel and mechanical parts. Smaller links take up less room, ensuring that they will not bind or damage braking and steering components. They offer perfect compatibility with electronic braking and traction systems as well. These smaller links also enable the CG-9 to give superior driving comfort while still providing excellent traction in snow and ice. Additionally, the special anti-scratch nylon bumpers protect your investment by ensuring that the chains never actually come in contact with your wheels. Thule CG-9 is a perfect combination of design, technology and safety for your winter trips.

How to Choose a Snow Chain that Fits Perfectly
To choose the right snow chain you must follow a few simple criteria. First, check your vehicle’s maintenance or owner’s manual to verify it contains no warnings advising against the fitting of snow chains on your particular vehicle. Once verified, take careful note of the three measurements on the side of the tire. The first number indicates the width, the second gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width) and the third denotes the diameter of the wheel expressed in inches. Then click on the Thule Snow Chain Fitment Guide to choose the most suitable model and size for your vehicle.

I definitely recommend these chains.

Apparently the space between the tire wall and the strut isn't sufficient enough for chains to be mounted without damage to the strut, tire, both, or more.

Very good snow chains, easy to install and they self center well.

I have used these chains for 2 seasons and have driven hundreds of miles on them. I love them and will never use another chain. They are quick and easy to attach. I am frequently in and out of the "chain-up area" before other drivers have even straightened out their chains. The low profile, 9mm chain links make for comfortable driving even at higher speeds.

I use them on a 2008 Subaru Impreza Outback. The owner's manual for this car says to never use chains or cables because they may interfere with the anti-lock brakes and steering mechanisms. This is apparently typical for smaller sports cars. But the state police won't always let me up the pass without chains installed, despite AWD and all-weather tires. I took the chains and the car to the Subaru dealership, had them put the car on a lift and install the chains. The dealership said they were fine and would not interfere with sensitive parts. I have been using these chains without issue, and after 2 seasons they show minimal wear. I fully expect to use them for 2 more seasons. I have not experienced the cable problem another reviewer had.

I recently used the chains on the way to Tahoe this weekend and it worked great. I was able to install the chains in less than 5 minutes and got me to my destination without any problems.

When I removed the chains however, it left some pretty big scratches on my rims! I drive an infiniti G35. I used the anti-scratch bumper included in the package but didn't really worked as advertised. This was really dissapointing. I emailed Thule and waiting for their reply.

Prior to returning home after a winter road trip of 1400 miles I realized the necessity to carry chains for an extended portion of my trip. Unfortunately the car I drove, a 2010 Jetta Wagon with sport suspension, is not supposed to have chains installed. This was a dilemma I wasn't expecting. Apparently the space between the tire wall and the strut isn't sufficient enough for chains to be mounted without damage to the strut, tire, both, or more.

After some research and some forum searches I realized there was a solution. I'm a thule enthusiast and know there products well, however I had never heard of this specific product. The 9mm chain and the way the chain mounts is perfect for lower profile vehicles when chains may not normally be an option. This chain fit and work perfectly without any issues even when the owner's manual for my car specifically mentioned not to mount snow chains.

Pros:

- Chains come in a relatively sturdy case the houses the chains in a circularly.
- The chains are easy to mount and both chains can be mounted in minutes.
- The chains are easy to remove, but easier to install.
- The tension mechanism is easy with color coordinated mounting points.
- It's a thule product
- Made my wife at ease for our extended winter drive home

Cons:

- Expensive compared to other tire chain types and brands (my SUV chains were half this price).
- Chain thickness is smaller than commonly used and may be an issues on icy or slushy roads

Check the spacing between the strut and the inside tire wall, if it's less than an adult man's thumb with you may not want to use these. After installation the space was reduced to about 3/8 of an inch, a bit close for comfort, but they still performed well.

I bought these before a trip up to the Catskills recently and as it turns out we were caught in a heavy snow storm. Before long the roads were in terrible shape with several inches of snow on top of ice. As a first time chain owner, I was shocked at how easily it was to put these chains on. There's no need to get back in the car and pull forward to secure them. Despite the snow and slush, the chains were simple to attach with their brightly colored links.

Once they were on, they worked better than I was expecting. I have a front wheel drive 2006 Toyota matrix and we were able to easily climb a long steep driveway with 4-5 inches of fresh snow on top of packed ice.

After a weekend of heavy use, they still look in good condition, but I definitely should have rinsed them after each use because I can see minor signs of salt corrosion. I definitely recommend these chains.

My 2011 Buick Lacrosse owner's manual says "Do not use chains. There is not enough clearance.", which means if you live in a mountainous State like California you might get stranded on some mountain passes. Fortunately, these chains are only 9 mm, which in my case let them fit the 1/2 inch gap between the tire and the strut housing. Because this gap is so small, it's also important that there's no slack in the chains, and this model's automatic tensioning system does a very good job of keeping the chain tight against the tire.

Some tips on installing and removing the chains.....

1) Installing the chains, particularly the first time, can be tricky, so install them first at home. You wouldn't want your first attempt to be on a cold wet road. There are also some good YouTube videos (Thule CG9) that'll help you understand the process.

2) They can't be installed if any part of them is tangled. Since they will be tangled when you remove them from their container, spend some time making sure there are no twists or tangles.

3) I had more trouble removing them than installing them, because it's necessary to reach behind the tire to unhook the yellow cable coupler and I couldn't find it without crawling under the car. So, note where it is during installation relative to the hooks on the frontside of the tire, or mark the tire. Preferably, when removing the chains you want to position the car so that the coupler is at the top of the tire.

Once you get the hang of installing/uninstalling these chains, you'll be glad you spent the extra money for this top of the line product. Good luck
