Ding ding ding...let's get ready to ruuuuuummmmmmbbbbbble... If you've got kids and they've got thumbs you've gotta get this book. (And it's not just for kids. I remember thumb-wrestling as a kid, now some 40 years ago, and it was fun, but not as fun as this book.) Prepare your hand to enter THE SLEEVE OF DOOM, an included bonus with your book; a device so simple yet so perfectly designed to keep your thumb battles a fair contest that you'll quickly learn who the cheaters are. (They're the ones who fear the sleeve the most.) In this book we learn about what it takes to becomes a well-rounded and champion thumb wrestler: exercises to increase strength and agility; the value of a dominating persona (and cool costume); strategies and tricks; intimidating banter and ways to incorporate marshmallows and chocolate pudding into your battles. Chocolate pudding? Yes, chocolate pudding. (Not much more to say about thumb wrestling after that.) BUT I must address the illustrations. They are very clever, very colorful and very fun. If you don't recognize your own thumb and and its personality in these illustrations you know what time it is? Time to get you a new thumb! Now get your thumbs on your keyboard, order this book, and get ready to wrestle thumbody.

I recently purchased this as a gift for my nine-year-old son, and he loved it! It would be well worth the money just for the different variations it offers to the traditional thumb war games, but what really makes it worthwhile is The Sleeve of Doom. With The Sleeve there's no way to wiggle out during a match, keeping the play fair and even. Finally a way for my son and seven-year-old daughter to match up without ending up in to a fight! The Sleeve isn't just for kids, though. It easily slipped over my hand in a match against my daughter, and we both got a kick out of "dressing-up" before our big game.

In addition to the Sleeve, the book is filled with ideas for multi-player matches, twists on the traditional game (our favorites were mud wrestling and the marshmallow version), and funny illustrations. This is definitely a great addition to the Klutz library of activity books!

I was disappointed with this product. The sleeve is stretchable so whoever is thumb wrestling can still pull back. So it's just like normal thumb wrestling. I thought that whole point of the sleeve was so that it was fair and nobody could pull back. I'm 19 and i bought this as a unique gift for my 18 year old girlfriend because we always pull our thumbs back. I don't like this at all.

4.5 stars/reviewed for MK's by Sophie-

Okay, when we got this wonderfully packaged book from Scholastic-Klutz, my 12 year old son literally tore it out of my hands. I think it was designed especially for him. But, I have to say that he talked his 8 year old sister into a thumb war.

Before you can say, "1-2-3-4, I declare a thumb war" the included Sleeve of Doom will be passed around your family and you will all be playing thumb wars. I have to admit that I'm quite a girly-girl but I enjoyed the illustrations, such as the suggestions to dress up your thumb like a real wrestler:

Our entire family tried the written variations of the game and the strategy suggestions. In fact, this was such a hit that my son is planning on taking the book to Boy Scout Camp this summer. If you have a boy in the family or are looking for a fun birthday gift to bring to a party, I'd suggest purchasing Thumb Wars: The Ultimate Guide. It may even spare you from some of those "I'm bored, Mom" moments this summer.
